NEW VID WENT ONLINE TODAY!!!!

http://www.metallica.com

Its naturally the top news story, also full cyanide single is there.

I think the vid is quite good. Interesting to see their thoughts on the vid trying to go closer to film etc., reminds me of watching Thriller video back in the day. Anyways I like the vid, thorts?

Why is the new bass player only shown for like, two seconds?

U2? I would disagree with that, I mean can any band do an outdoors word without it being compared to U2?

lol Remember that ep of South Park with U2 in Africa walking thru slums going 'yeah yeah yeah yeah' then his phone rings and he goes 'Hellooo Helloo-ooooo!"
FUCKING. LOL-zor-A-Tion.

I didn't comprehend any of that but I am drunk at thgem moment. anyway... Large budget heliocoptper panning and 'profound' army scenes = some major label generic piece of shit like U2. have fun

That I did, but I can forgive Misly for getting excited.

2 listens through now. They have turned the corner, that's for sure. I really like it as an album, not just because it's Metallica.

Yup, it's instantly shitloads better than Stanger. I'm only up to The Unforgiven III, and I'm pleasantly surprised by everything so far.

Quite a stunning return to form, IMO. I love the way they're combining the best bits of their post-'black album' musical style with that of their pre-'black album' style, and mixing it up with some newish ideas too.

MetallicA has blown me away, true the anticipation is gone, but I am very very impressed. Metallica has exceeded my expectations. After listening to Death Magnetic, I am MORE excited about the official release date and having my own physical copy.

Thank you MetallicA!

Every song is brilliant. My favorite song after one play through is Judas Kiss.

After more listens, I can see Death Magnetic becoming my second or third favourite MetallicA album after ...And Justice for All.

I'm not about to make any such claims... just that it's lightyears better than Stanger.

...and the more I listen to it, the more it feels like a natural progression; 'Black' - Load - Reload - S&M - Death Magnetic

it's like Stanger never existed, which is fine by me :D

Rick Rubin's worked some magic here. I was ready to write them off completely after Stanger...

(except I wrote a song called "Judas Kiss" years ago...)

Chaos am cry some of his songs are skipping and he will need to get a different copy.

However from my first listen through I am well pleased with how this album has turned out.

I am about half way through...so far I am quite enjoying it actually. Despite lars the metronome and the occasional weak lyric my main crticism of it is just the song length. I dont think these songs (or to be more accurate, arrangements of the riffs) are interesting or varied enough to last a full 7 mins virtually every track.

It will take a few listens for me to have a true opinion of the album I think, but they have done better than I was expecting. It lacks the spice of true metal curry but is definately still part of the same menu, unlike some of the bands previous efforts.

I also have to say the single, the day that never comes, still made me cringe the second it came on. I fucking hate the intro for it.

Listened to it twice now, and I am very surprised and impressed. Definitely a good album, nice and hard, but not without some immediate and noticeable flaws - James' singing is not what it once was, and some of the songs feel long for the sake of being long.

But that aside, I have enjoyed it both times now. A good comeback indeed. Look forward to seeing how time treats this one.

you know what really surprises me on this album?

The Unforgiven III

I'm really in disbelief that this song is as good as it is. Definitely in the top 3 tracks for the album

Yes it's excellent. I went into the album expecting it to be worse than 2, yet it is really, really good.

This album gets my "Biggest Surprise" award for.. er.. well, it's the biggest surprise I've had musically since Stanger was shit - although there were several hints that it would be.

I don't mean to sound like a gushing fanboy, I'm just completely fucking shocked that something of this quality has followed something as bad as Stanger.
