Didn't Webber give Alonso a lift when he ran out of fuel? Or was it the other way around....

Anyway, Webber has copped a 10 place grid penalty for the next race, fuck me. Not funny anymore.

Such a bullshit race. I was stoked to be there but the party vibe was nowhere to be found Sunday night. Lots of Aussies out boozing it up after the concerts on Saturday, but dead quiet on Sunday. Monday morning flights maybe...

Turn 1 seats on race day where pretty good. Row 3 so nice and close to the corner entry. I reckon the next stand over might have been better as you get the straight also. Anyway the highlight was probably Webber passing Hulk on turn 1 right in front of us. That's it. Not much else happened of any value throughout the rest of the race. They still look, sound and smell great in the flesh.

I reckon there was more Aussies there than anyone else. Germans, a close second. Each day we were surrounded by aussie folks in our allocated seats. Lots of them from Perth. Which is good, but of course you get most of these people wearing V8 Supercar merch, which is a turn off and why I've never been keen on doing Albert Park.

Would recommend it though, chaps. It can be done on the cheap. You just wanna finish it up with an entertaining race.

edit: Ricciardo for sure got the loudest cheer and applause out of everyone in the drivers' parade. Lots of Aussies like I said, but everyone just went off for him. Lookin' forward to next season

I think you'd be quite surprised how international the Albert Park crowd is. There's plenty of Aussies in their V8 shirts of course, but they all slum it in GA.

Best thing about the Melbourne GP though, is that it's always the first (or sometimes second) race of the year - so the teams haven't got their shit sorted and it can be a rather mixed up race and result.

Wish someone would just take Vettel out on the first corner so we could have an interesting race.

Seen that doing the rounds. Lined up next a Vettel meme of the same nature raises the fair argument that they are deliberately stooging Webber, or the bloke is just plain cursed. Surely to be a blessing for him when it's finally all over.

Hang in there son, only 5 races to go (meaning 5 or more opportunities for shit to go horribly wrong).

Mark Webber believes Red Bull made a strategic error by switching him to a three-stop race in the Japanese Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel won the race on a two-stop strategy having dropped to third place behind Webber and Romain Grosjean at the start of the race. With Grosjean leading, Webber felt he had the pace to beat the Lotus and the tyre life but was surprised the team switched him to a different strategy which ultimately restricted him to second place.

"After that first stop the guys said 'We're still on two [stops], no problem, look after the tyres, we can get to the target lap'," Webber said, "That was the plan, I was looking to wait off the back of Romain and then squeeze up to the back of him between lap 28-31 or 32. Then I think on lap 25 the guys said we're going to three-stop, which is five laps shorter than the two-stop anyway.

"I asked the guys 'Are you sure this is right?' And they said 'Yes, we're going to give it a go', and we gave it a go; you've got to give it 100%."

Asked why he didn't disagree with Red Bull's decision during the race, Webber said he has to trust the team at the time when it has access to all the data.

"I don't have the whole chess match in front of me. I have what's in front of me here, I thought that Romain was strong on the option but not so strong on the prime; when I decided to pull the pin and go straight on the back of him I could do that quite straight-forward. Then I went there and thought 'OK let's wait again, we can still sit on the two-stop and wait for him to have some tyre problems at the end' but they then said 'No, we need to pit now, let's go for the three'. They had more information, they always generally do in front of them and that was it."

Webber also said he didn't feel he would have been able to beat Vettel if he had cleared Grosjean immediately.

"No, Seb stopped with 18 laps to go and the tyres are still in pretty good shape. So no, it's OK, he would have lived with the pace if I had arrived on the back of him, for sure. I mean, it would have been some advantage on my side for sure but not enough to deal with him with enough laps to go."

Unless it's old age, I struggle to believe you can be a top flight F1 driver and consistently mess up starts. Can't wait for his book.

Regardless, this is quite possibly the worst F1 race I have seen from memory.

The whole season has been shit. Vettel is a fuckwit and is dominating. Webber has a combination of unreliable car and general incompetence. McLaren is fucking nowhere. Ferrari dropped right off as challengers, Merc can't quite stay consistent enough, same with Lotus. Fuck, even Grosjean isn't going into any bezerker mode and taking half the field out. Hurry up 2014
