The only thing I'm wondering about this Sonic movie -
Will the people lining up to see it smell even worse than the people who attend Smash Bros. tournaments.

Re: The Movie News Thread - new Trek rules, Man of Steel in
Star Wars getting hammered by the critics, for being too much of a nostalgic dose of fan service.
So it'll probably be MOTY
Professional critics loved The Last Jedi because it wasn't a rehash, and subverted almost every expectation there was (including the expectation of a good movie amirite???) so it'll be interesting to see what the the very vocal internet critics think of it now that it appears to have dialled back everything from The Last Jedi to give us Return of The Jedi 2019.
I'll be seeing it Boxing Day.

It's not sounding good. Public opinions range from average to worse than TLJ. I'm still going to see it, taking my 8yo but not holding my breath.

Critics are hating this one for the reasons they loved Last Jedi so I expect you'll like it.Candy Arse wrote:"Professional critics" also didn't love The Godfather, so yeah...nah.Ambrose Burnside wrote:Professional critics loved The Last Jedi
They even cut Rose's scenes down to cameo levels. Get on it

Watched TROS yesterday afternoon. Such a terrible film. I didn't like TFA. I hated TLJ and I put this on the level of TLJ. Really bad... I won't go into spoilers but my expectations were very low going in, and this film shattered that!

Re: The Movie News Thread - new Trek rules, Man of Steel in
Disney should have let George Lucas finish telling his story... TROS is not great, and not helped by having terrible characters that fans can't connect with - Kylo Ren is one such character, what was Disney thinking?

Re: The Movie News Thread - new Trek rules, Man of Steel in
Yep, that's what I did- fuck the critics and fans opinions and watched it myself. Made up my own mind that it was a shithouse film. See it for yourself! It makes no sense. Makes up shit as it goes along and invalidates the previous 2 trilogies! Yep- great film!K.T.Shoe[BMs] wrote:Ambrose, TROS is a must see, fark critics and what everyone else thinks, just go see it and form your own opinion.

My ranking of the Disney movies so far would be:Ambrose Burnside wrote:Got my Gold Class tickets for Boxing Day, and I can't wait
Rogue One (one of the best Star Wars movies full stop)
*daylight*
Episode 7 (it's a remake of A New Hope ffs) / Episode 8 (appreciate that it tried something new while still hitting a lot of the story beats from Empire Strikes Back, didn't always stick the landing and Space Leia is the dumbest thing in any Star Wars movie)
*daylight*
Solo (why?)

Re: The Movie News Thread - new Trek rules, Man of Steel in
I liked Leia Poppins and I reckon Midichlorians were the dumbest thing in any Star Wars film.
TROS was just... forgettable. Nothing really stuck, most of the action was a mess and it made TLJ redundant. The fan service was pretty poor too (Rogue One did it much better).

Re: The Movie News Thread - new Trek rules, Man of Steel in
I hesitate to drop money on TROS. I didn't mind TFA but despised The Last Jedi - mainly because Rian Johnson made the movie all about himself with no regard for the plot beats set up in the first film (such as they were). That and he absolutely broke the concept of hyperspace with no thought for the consequences on the larger universe. From all accounts TROS is trying to undo The Last Jedi in an attempt to set up sequel movies in the future. I really hope that should another trilogy be made they give complete creative control over to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni for the entire arc. The only creative pair with the talent and knowledge of the universe to make a decent series.

Midichlorians They were swept so far under the carpet I forgot how dumb they were.
Which is ridiculous because they own Marvel so know exactly how it should be done
It's painfully obvious just from TFA and TLJ that there was no overarching plan with the Disney sequels.Rorschach wrote:I hesitate to drop money on TROS. Re: The Movie News Thread - new Trek rules, Man of Steel in
They need to give creative control to one single person (or team, I guess) to map out the story of any future trilogies from start to finish prior to literally anything else happens. No casting, no announcements, nothing. Get the shape right from the start, and none of this making shit up as you go along.
What a fucking shambles. Even the love story from Episode II was better than this steaming pile of crap. Hell, even Solo was better!

John Favreau for sure given his work on The Mandalorian and Iron Man. Guy basically started the MCU.

Re: The Movie News Thread - new Trek rules, Man of Steel in
Ep7, 8 & 9 were no good - they didn't have all the stories mapped out from the get go, and JJ Abraham and Rian Johnson are creatively quite different, and both were trying to make Star Wars into an all out action flick.
Disney should have left it to George Lucas to finish telling his story, and let him direct and produce them. Then Disney can do whatever they want with the franchise like the Mandalorians, Rogue One, Solo etc...

Re: The Movie News Thread - new Trek rules, Man of Steel in
I disagree. George Lucas got lucky with Star Wars, but he's really not all that great. Plus, I don't think that he actually had more than a vague idea of how the third trilogy would go. Still, they probably should have kept him on for some sort of creative control. Because holy shit, even if 7 was good (shut up, it was), and 8 was OK (shut up, it mostly was), it's pretty obvious that this trilogy was a rush job to get a quick return on buying the franchise, with no thought to actually developing the universe.
Solo does a better job of that.
