Especially considering an Internet filter would make child pornography harder to track.

Is that all you're worried about Talez?
What about drastically slowing down the Internet, having thousands of innocent websites blocked due to filter error, and losing the internet as an open uncensored free speech resource to find information / discuss illegal topics such as euthenasia or r rated games.

Nope but its the primary arguments of the filter's proponents when in actual fact it won't stop child porn and will make prosecuting the associated people harder.

At the moment the majority of child pornography consumers operate in the clear and do stupid shit like access sites from their home computers and just do things like clear their history to cover their tracks. If the feds ever get access logs they hand the details off to the states which can then serve a warrant on their ISP, grab their details and go and arrest the fucks.

Now that you've filtered the whole lot child pornographers will be forced to VPN to a box in the states or overseas. Now you've gone from serving a local ISP to multiple jurisdictions in multiple countries that you have to go through to get details.

Effectively you've made it mandatory (whereas before it was optional) for child pornographers and the consumers of said items to obscure themselves in other jurisdictions making it hell for law enforcement to track them down. Before people who were smart were hard to find. Now every dumb fuck with a net connection is going to be stupidly hard to track down simply because you've forced them to obfuscate themselves just to access the content.

Anyone who's remotely in favour of stopping child pornography should oppose these filters as an obstruction to our state law enforcement.

Also, this whole filter debacle is a reason why specious reasoning is extremely fucking dangerous.

I like this idea. I also like the idea of Australia Post opening every letter and reading it. I am also a cock.

It's not the same thing. Australia Post wouldn't be opening every letter and reading it. It'd be like Australia Post refusing to deliver a package to a certain block of apartments because a known paedophile lives there.

Please can anyone explain this desire to tell other people what to do with their lives? I for one could not care less what people do with THEIR lives provding they do not breach anyone elses rights to do what ever they want to do.

Sometimes I feel like I have become an old man (ala Larry David or someone) in a young man's body, I feel that generally people are very presumptuous in talking to me (and strangers in general) or telling me what they think I should do and in response I have become very prickly.

example:

I told a fella who works in a shop to 'fuck off and leave me alone' the other day because he observed me picking up a bread roll and putting it in to a plastic bag rather than using the provided tongs.

I think in short I am over being generally polite with strangers and it is something I have not observed in other people my age.

Does anyone else feel this way? Are there any anthropology, psychology or philosophy students on the board or people who ask these introspective questions on occasion?

Another example:

I found myself in a dispute over my payslip a couple of weeks ago. Now, nothing gets you more excited than being underpaid I am sure you will agree and so I rang up the relevant department and tried to find out what had happened and whether or not I would be getting paid for the work I had done. Not only was I told that I would not be paid for the work it was impled by the payroll person that it was MY problem not hers; in effect telling me that after having done your job you then need to ring us up and make sure we have done ours too. I was shocked. A year or two ago I would have said 'sorry' and hung up but instead I turned the argument in to my favour, owned the person on the other end of the phone with logic and was subsequently paid that afternoon.

I realise this is all quite OT but I value outside opinion very highly and this topic raised up these thoughts again so gomen-na-fucken-saiiiiii

Bit of a dick on your part. The tongs are there for sanitary reasons. I don't want your grubby paws touching all the rolls when you go to grab yours. It's not like you can wash a bread roll like a piece of fruit.

Well within your right. The payroll person was being a right bitch and needed to be straightened out.

Yeah, fair enuff, I dunno I was in no mood at the time and this 15 year old kid was trying to take me to task over this roll after I had dealt with 15 year old boys at school all day so unfair on reflection.

It's a continuation of an idea floated in Ministerial meetings of the old Department of Communications early last year (don't ask me how I know.) The first phase was the downloadable filtering system (that got hacked by a kid 15 minutes after release)
Both sides of the House are contributing to this clusterfuck.

Why would they. The country really needs to learn a lesson and vote sensibly next time. If I were the opposition I'd be sitting back smirking my arse off right now. They can oppose it or stay right out of it. Either way they could potentially come out looking good.

This is NOT about pedophiles, pr0n, or protecting children.

^
That is the cover story, and what they're doing, as Talez says will not make a difference to them. Pedos will still be pedos regardless. A stint in jail or castration, or even the chair would probably be better than taking the internet off them (and everyone else to boot)......

What this really is is the control and flow of information, along with pandering to big business blocking illegal copyright infringements. Stealing your freedom, your right to information, and your right to choose.

People say: "it won't bother me, I torrent!"
Well, guess what, it sure as hell will when you can't access mininova, isohunt, torrentreactor and piratebay. Where are the tracker links going to come from eh?
All those TV series that people watch when they come out? Gone! Back to 4 year old episodes of Top Gear on SBS, and missing out on a lot of quality shows that never come out here.

^
It's a very basic example, but it's one that every day people can relate to. I guess it might push a lot of people back to IRC.....the real internet underbelly. The real picture is much bigger and wider in scope though than simple piracy.

What about other sites?
Wikipedia - Gooone! Facebook and MySpace - Goooneee!
Researching - Nazi Germany? Euthanasia? Gone!
What next? Dissent????
It's a very slippery slope.

What really pisses me off is Australian apathy towards this fascism. But people are waking up to it.
If this was happening in England or America, it would be an absolute outrage. The notion that this can even be suggested in a first world developed nation is insulting.

I'll be there on December 13.

Please can anyone explain this desire to tell other people what to do with their lives?
Short explanation: It's Bush Snr's "NWO" which was mentioned in a speech to destroy the old order and bring in the new one. (only by secretly creating chaotic events to bring about the new order as a solution, can it work so that's why things like port arthur massacre/school shootings to bring about the gun debate to confiscate it from you, 911 to rob people of privacy, global warming to rob you of your land, droughts to control the supply of food, wars to reduce population, feminism-communism to make the family less productive and more reliant on government for aid which will then control it, banning the internet to filter what you can see, etc and many other tricks like convincing people the country would collapse if they didn't help you and intrude on your everyday life like a controlling mother to a 5 year old kid who can't be trusted by himself)

Long one.. watch this:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... 3867390173

link to download it if you want to save it to HDD

In the future all foreigners will take your job, (open the borders to them as part of globalisation process) the locals of each nation will be tagged as terrorists by the corrupt government leaders of that nation, (every day new powers are being taken away in stealth such as freedom of speech, you must help spy on your neighbours) and the elite's "enemies of their enemies (you)" will be given the power to change your land's laws, customs, way of living and make the government officials concentrate less on local issues and only on the global ones that serve only to empower the elites who are trying to take "control" (whatever form that takes such as ability to bear arms, privacy, access information etc) from you to bring about a false peace.

Which brings me to a related topic: I think people are worried that Obama might get targeted because he is a black guy! Could we expect a possible "LA riots, part 2" one day over there, which then gives the US president the excuse to use the executive powers to imprison the whole country and chip people in a state of emergency?

Doom is predicted ahead for many freedom-loving people..
Innocents will be the enemy of the state. Everywhere you go, everything you buy, everything you say (the phone, your fax, internet communication being monitored by big brother) is being monitored so that you can't pee without the government needing to hold your dick for you in case you use it to stab others with it or try to hijack a plane with it.

Play the Illuminati card game for more insight:
Interesting Steve Jackson interview after the raid  :
Pt 1
Pt 2
Pt 3
Pt 4
The plan spans many generations of people. All the major wars were designed to divide and conquer the world by first splitting it into more managable chunks to make it easier to manipulate people into giving up their powers and accepting it's handover to a central government that controls everything. Who gets to decide the laws? Who gets to decide what should be censored? Who gets to decide who should have guns? Who gets to decide where you should work and what type of work your genes say you are suitable for? Who get to control the distribution of wealth? Those trying to build a global order where there are no borders.
At the top of the pyramid is the all-seeing eyeball:
The ability to spy on you is part of the power to view everything like a god and play god with your life. The eyeball could be symbolic of wisdom/knowledge/science and the wise ones are wizards worship wisdom itself which allows them to manipulate the laws to their own advantage. They want to be like the owl which is the symbol of wisdom.

Why are the evil wizards practicising their dark magick to toy with nature in all those fantasy RPGs the bad guys all the time? Because it always ends up being you as the one being manipulated and costing something (souls) as a sacrifice to get it because it doesn't come free. The ancient symbols are everywhere planted in plain view for you:
In a global system for example if you want to see uncensored content in games, or be allowed to go to any website you deem safe for you to view, (but which the government says you shouldn't be allowed to see) moving to another country won't help you, all nations must obey one set of rules due to one order. It's "what's best for you to be controlled and managed" is wht the control freaks are thinking. I suppose they think they are doing you a favour being involved in every little decision you should be making yourself as a free-thinking individual. But it's just making people feel more caged and controlled and babied.

To many the "old" order was better because let you do stuff so long as it didn't harm others. Now you got to be a global minded person who must give up all the liberties you had just to make a few people at the top of the pyramid happy, instead of what the nation itself (who pays all the taxes) actually wants. Problems are presented on tv for you where no problem exists. (eg "those violent gamers") Solutions for those problems that don't exist are presented and put into place which don't solve the real problem (eliminating violence) but which take something away from the people. (the right of law abiding adults to see something freely) And the cycle repeats until you are imprisoned completely. Most won't wake up to the plot until it is too late, and by that time their children will grow up in a world that is completely owned and controlled by the select few who the people put all their faith in to lead them.

What's the future hold?
The new order is going to use the technology in ways to further strengthen controls of the 'eye' in terms of gaining further personal information about you like what shows you watch, what items you like, buying patterns, the times you visit sites and other info to predict behavior and further manipulate and control you like some lab animal. We are just viewed as animals in cages. That's why they need to put cameras everywhere, scan you, treat you like a criminal to get us all used to being controlled. Everyone is going to be branded a number like a mass-produced robot or clone which is purpose-built to do a task and that's all. But it brings "order and peace". But it's like saying a bird you caged is now safe now that it's not free to fly around anymore on it's own power to get away from predators thanks only to your cage protecting it, and not it's wings which would naturally allow it to fly away from predators as intended.

Apology to aborigines.

Saving the planet.

Telling the yanks how to handle their finances with the pure clarity of hindsight.

Censoring the internet.

Jesus, I hope the next Prime Minister represents...I dunno...the majority of Australians perhaps.

How in fuck is this better than when we were under a perceived dictatorship?

I now officially miss Johnny Howard.
