I'm hoping this sounds the beginning of the end for Facebook - their platform is toxic and detrimental to public at large. I don't necessarily think the government is doing this for strictly alturistic reasons but Facebook and Google have had it too good for too long, they need to be reigned in.

The purpose of the legislation was to give more power to Murdoch (and the other main players). It was all about the fabled algorithm(s), which even though Google did some deals it's highly doubtful they gave theirs up. None of this was good, on either side. No matter which way it goes, the little guys will be screwed even more.

I think the whole debacle is entertaining. I hate the MSM and I hate Facebook, so seeing them fight suits me just fine. Ideally, Facebook will be banned China style and nobody in their right mind will pay for a subscription to any of the MSM outlets. Everyone loses. Everyone.

I'll assume you mean the ALP...I would assume unless they had someone who would actually take Murdoch on (which unfortunately I doubt Albo would ever do) they probably would've done it too.

FB and Google got it coming from governments since they started dicking about with filtering. As soon as you start picking and choosing what you think is information and act like a publisher with opinion then Government's can't help themselves but to get in there and "help out". So next stop will be anti trust in the EU and maybe something in the USA along those lines but not certain on that one.
