I'm with you on the Church development too GW. Why should it be subject to anything but the normal council approval you would have for anything else?

In regards to the church article... it made me think of other news stories about high rise residential apartments being built near schools. I am beginning to wonder if these apartment complexes are actually dirty pervy open to the public apartments or Retirement Homes.

It would seem odd to zone a residential high rise right next to a school.

I wouldn't be suprised if they weren't retirement villages and the media and local morons were trying to beat it up.

I'm not saying old people aren't perves... I'm just saying that the current climate we are in is dumb. Not everyone is a paedo. Yeah sure we have to protect our children, but not by blanket banning everything and everyone.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean GW. Of course its important to protect kids from paedos but why is every development above 3 storeys automatically paedo central?

Did nobody mention that Pixi Skase was in the news again last week. She's going to settle down in Toorak again. Apparently people there come up to her and tell her it's great that she's back and many people are encouraging her to move back. She'd been waiting for her dogs to die before her triumphant return from exile.
Who the fuck is walking up to Pixi Skase and offering her support? I can only imagine it being the most poisonous, rich, Stepford, kept cunts of Toorak.

TIMBER giant Gunns Ltd is suing the protesters who brought its Triabunna woodchip mill to a standstill last month.

Further legal action against the protesters is expected from several of the 40 truck drivers left fuming outside the mill gates who say the protest, which saw them gridlocked for seven hours with fully laden trucks, cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Here is a story that may test some peoples political alliegences. I have a few points about this:

1. As a Tasmanian with something Gunns related in the news every single day I am so completely over the actions of these rent-a-crowd tools as to have no sympathy for them,I really hope they have to pay coz they aren't playing by the rules. How do other Tassies feel about this situation (and with Tassie being Australia's unoffcial environmental conscience?)

2. Gunns 13? Gunns 20? This is something that infuriates me, the Green party's quickness to turn these tools whose protests deprive people of a legal income in to some kind of folk hero! Its not like we are living in an oppressive political climate where you cant speak your mind and these people are like Mandela or something! They bolted themselves to production lines and stopped people earning a living FFS.

3. Greenies inability toplay by the rules. A decision has been made by the council/evironmental protection agency/federal govt.? Form a group and protest the decision. Peaceful protests dont work/the man in the street isnt listening? Time for illegal action to get yourself on the front of the paper, dont worry about getting charged, we've got plenty of expensive lawyers on the payroll and we can spin the story as bullying big business vs the little man. And Bob Brown and other prominent party members support this action? Why the fuck are they getting so many votes?

The cult of environMENTALism continues to amaze.

Talk amongst yourselves.

Franklin?

Environmentalists want renewable energy and not fossil fuels or nuclear based energy, but refuse to have any more dams put in. At least they're right about wind farms, they're next to useless apparently.

Two porn moguls, including Hustler magazine founder Larry Flynt, are seeking a $US5 billion ($7 billion) bailout from Washington, arguing that the limp US economy has thrown cold water on the adult entertainment industry.

I am sick to death of the tas greens vs gunns debate. I really wish the fed govt had made a definitive decision this week, because the compromise they made only means we have to see the same old shit on the front page of the newspaper for the next 16 years.

The tas greens are a contradiction though. Rough timeline of events:

1. Franklin Dam proposed - opposed - cancelled

2. Wind farms built

3. Future wind farms opposed because a parrot had a heart attack within a 10 mile radius of an existing wind turbine

4. Basslink cable in effect

5. Drought hits Tas, hydro has to buy power from the mainland via basslink. This power is overwhelmingly produced by coal power plants.

~~~
Now if they hadnt opposed the dams and the windfarms we might have enough power generating capacity to handle a drought without resorting to fossile fuel derived electricity.
I propose that the tas govt should secretly fund a nuclear power plant in one of the mainland states and agree to buy all our extra electricty needs from that plant via basslink.
People need to become more pragmatic and less idealistic. Global warming will not be the end of mankind and a dam will not be the end of nature. The end.
Now for some pure gold
Masturbating driver fined for 'bizarre' pleasure cruise
A Darwin man has been fined $2,000 for filming himself masturbating while speeding along the Stuart Highway.
The man is already in jail until August after pleading guilty to carrying cannabis in the car boot and two plants on the back seat.
Brenton Alan Erhardt, 39, pleaded guilty in the Darwin Magistrates Court to dangerous driving.
He was pulled over by police on the Stuart Highway in July speeding at 147 kilometres per hour, south of Daly Waters.
He admitted to officers he filmed himself masturbating while driving from Adelaide to Darwin.
He also pleaded guilty to driving unlicensed, carrying two cannabis smoking pipes, administering the drug and carrying a loaded rifle.
Magistrate Sue Oliver says the driving was bizarre to say the least and conduct she expects of someone much younger.
Shoddy reporting like this sucks ignorant people in (of which there are many) and if there's something the Green camp is full of it's ignorance.
IF you want to help save the planet from carbon carnage, cut your Google searches, scientists say.
Performing two Google searches from a desktop computer can generate about the same amount of carbon dioxide as boiling a kettle for a cup of tea, according to new research, The Australian reports.
In other Greeny related news (what other kind of news is there in Tas) the tools up the Florentine have finally been shut down with their camp being dismantled yesterday admidst cheers from forrestry workers who might actually be able to earn a dollar now.
Its funny you should say that, because I assumed that cutting down trees and planting newer, faster growing trees would be an effective way of 'locking it in, eddie' and getting large amounts of carbon out of the atmosphere. Then they could harvest the regrowth.
Mind you there was a sensationally bad article by a virologist in the australian last week about global warming. He claimed it was a fact based on some graph where there was a slight dip in the increase of temperatures in the last 10 years. Firstly, he couldn't read the graph correctly. Secondly, he didnt even read the units on the y-axis correctly, and thirdly he is a virologist, not a climatologist. Climatologists dont look at short timescales. The campaign against the global warming campaigners needs to start hiring some people who at least have a clue, rather than people who cant even read a simple graph correctly. I CAN HAS TRENDLINE?
