A blast from the past
A blast from the past
Hi guys, I noticed playnow has a redirect to this forum now. I read some threads and I thought I would try to get you guys' take on what happened.
I was a long time playnow lurker and joined their guild in playing wow a few years ago, but I don't play with them anymore.
From the game side of things, it kind of seemed like this;
Forums were running along as usual, pretty much the same as games ranch is today, most the same people.
Some of us kind of felt like intruders to be posting there since we didn't know anyone, so we mostly just stuck to the wow section.
There was a running joke where DJ Fusion used to tell agonny etc that we couldnt come to guild meetups because we had to raid (even when we didnt have to raid). i remember guys like lestat came and played with us for a while. I don't know if that particularly pissed people off.
Ilce seemed genuinely pissed off that people came on the forums purely to bitch about WoW, largely because it was making the WoW players feel unwelcome. I don't think he would have minded if it was people who normally contributed, but the posts seemed to be coming from people who had nothing else to say.
The impression I got is that these were a part of the PN community "behind the scenes", but for those of us not on xbox live, we couldnt tell this, it did simply look like angry trolling...
I'm not sure if you're aware, but in the later days of the playNOW guild, Ilce reminsced a lot about the playnow that used to be, where everyone was a group of people that really talked and knew each other outside of gaming. Over time, the guild had been pressured towards taking on dirty seppos and people who had no interest in PN except to raid more.
There was always a tension between
a) people who posted socially on PN - and their friends who wanted along for the ride.
b) people who posted socially on PN and were skilled gamers
c) skilled gamers with no prior connection to PN
I guess I wanted to understand what annoyed people about the influx of WoW stuff in the first place? It did largely keep to its own forum sections, which were often busier than the other parts.

I suspect you've hit the nail on the head.Symbiote wrote:Ilce
Madmya, I thought you were always a joke member, like you used to post on the dreamcast AU forums (cant remember their name?) and were a sort of troll or 11 years old and a running gag or something?
TBH for those of us who were playing with Ilce at the time, he didn't seem to have lost the plot or even be angry about things, it seemed to have come to the point where petty arguments over who got what loot or whether WoW was GOTY were pretty much beneath him.
The funny thing is the point at which he apparently "seemed" most obsessed with WoW on the forums is probably the same point where he wasn't playing very much and didn't take much of an actve role in it.

All I can really say, is what took place at the time at PlayNOW resulted in a much better forum here at The Games Ranch.
What happened, happened and there's no point in drudging up the past. Welcome Symbiote, I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay at the Ranch and be welcomed into the community. If not, by all means feel free to leave (no need for us to kick you out for not agreeing with people).

I demand answers. Who were you at ODWF? Who were you at PN? Who were you in the PN WoW guild?
Although the previous incident had nothing to do with me. Elf has hit the mark right there!

All I saw was ilce posting (sticking) WoW shit at the top of the main forum... keep it to the many WoW forums.
not that I really gave a shit.
what pissed me off was when he started to fuck with the XBL forum, throwing his pn power around out of bitterness... then he WIPED 5+ year old accounts, 2 of them as a result of a thread at ANOTHER forum!
PN was loved by all, so the mass exodus is proof ilce was being a tosser.
He killed PN, simple as that.
now we fucking own it, one of the all time ownings since the internet began.
smoke my pole ilce
