Re: Going to the States
Anyone been to an NFL match?
I see that the NFL playoffs start on 7/1, I wonder if there's any chance that the 49ers will make the playoffs and play at home first game.

Nevermind them having a home game. That said the NFC West was was fucking terrible last year so you never know. Oakland aren't much better either so I would say not much chance of them making the playoffs let alone a home game.
Get me some Golden State Warriors gear while you're there Ags

Send me some money! A lot more sites are shipping direct to Aus now, have you tried? Suprisingly, Old Navy has some good shirts for US sports teams.pilonv1 wrote:Get me some Golden State Warriors gear while you're there Ags

Re: Going to the States
Hawaii will be awesome, I'm guessing you're going to be in Honolulu? If so, hit up the Shore Bird near Waikiki beach and hit up some of the small places the locals go to eat!
There's an Old Navy in Ala Moana (the main shopping centre) and once you know your sizes you can always order more when you get back to Aus. One of my mates just got a shit load of stuff delvered, including jeans for $15 each!

A mate of mine went to Hawaii recently in quite good shape and came back a lard after hitting the cheesecake shop there like a crazy bitch.pilonv1 wrote:gf's family bought me a bunch of shit last year from there, unfortunately it's all too big for me. Fucking US sizes

Re: Going to the States
Not sure if there are foodies here but I've been wanting to make a reservation at Alinea in Chicago for my trip in December. Reservations open up 2mths in advance and will generally book out a whole month within a few days at the most.
I was up at 1am dialling furiously on both the home phone and mobile trying to make a booking, finally after 40min I scored one but was by email (a recommendation I received a few days ago from their cute sounded booking assistant).
You're probably wondering why this place is a big deal, well it's 3 star Michelin rated, number 1 restaraunt in the US and rated number 6 in the world.
The head chef and owner, Grant Achatz, is known to be a genius with molecular gastronomy and even survived a rare tongue cancer (apparently can't taste anymore).
I'm really fucking pumped, an experience of a life time!

Re: Going to the States
Early days yet, but it looks like the 49ers could score themselves a finals slot. Crazy season so far.

Re: Going to the States
Finally starting to plan my US trip with a slight diversion through Peru.
Have some QFF points built up so will do Melbourne -> Sydney -> Santiago -> Lima -> Miami/LA (depending on availability) on points. Then just need to get back. One way flights aren't cheap.
Will then have about 3 1/2 weeks in the USA. There are three areas I want to see and they're all pretty far apart. LA/SFC/LV triangle, Florida (theme parks), then NYC/WD.C/Niagra Falls area. So will have to get flights between those. I've done LA before though so will most likely do SFC, Yosemite, LV (again), Grand Canyon (again). (cause they're awesome).
Within those areas what's the best mode of transport? Car/Bus/Camel?
I am pretty frikkin excited about trekking up to Macchu Picchu so the US will just be icing on the cake for that.

Re: Going to the States
Will you be trekking the inca trail? If so, book as early as you can and if you plan to do at least a 6 day hike, make sure your fitness is up to scratch!

Re: Going to the States
Yeah I'm looking at the Trek. I run 6kms a day so hopefully should be fit enough. I've read that it books out quickly (not sure how quickly) but hope to book in the next month or two which should give me plenty of time I think. Not planning on going until August 2012.
Can't wait!

Re: Going to the States
That's awesome I'd love to visit some of those areas in South America
Re: Going to the States
I think booking 3 or 4 months in advance is fine. What I actually did is hire a moto and rode the 230 or so kms from Cusco to Santa Teresa then trekked from there to Aguas Calientes which is the base town for Machu Picchu. Ever seen that worlds deadliest roads show? Plenty of that on the other side of Abra Malaga (huge mountain). Much worse than the death road in Bolivia you may have seen on Top Gear.

Ha! Nah I won't be that adventurous I'll be booking on a tour group.
Love some of these itinerarys. Day 1. Nothing planned today so you're free to explore!

Re: Going to the States
Renting a car in the US is a right cunt. Trying to work it out now and the insurance is a nightmare.
Re: Going to the States
Wait, what? What's the drama?
I rented with Hertz and it was easy. Travel insurance company picked up the slack on the massive excess.

49ers are 4-1 and top of the NFC West right now thank you very much.pilonv1 wrote:AgOnNy wrote:I see that the NFL playoffs start on 7/1, I wonder if there's any chance that the 49ers will make the playoffs and play at home first game.

Damned if I know why you want some Golden State Warriors gear though. Talk about terrible teams that never make playoffs.

Sorting out flights. Not wholly excited tbh.
