avoid lg, they are just cheap shit these days. The new teac... Started great and become blargh. My fiance bought lg and we've had audio issues and the pq isn't too flash. Very dark. She's only had it for around 2 years...

No go on the LG than?...hm....I'm leaning towards this one now, even though it's above my initial budget...

A comparable Sony model sells for even more...

Hmm i have two lg plasma's in my house one being about 3 yrs old and has not missed a beat and the other only 6 months old and has a great picture with usb playback. Just today i was installing an antenna in yarraville when the guys 3 month old samsung smart tv decided not to turn on so imo most sets besides the panasonics are all on par as i see different ones every day in my job.

Yeah I heard LG's were ok...???

So I take it that Panasonics are notoriously bad???

I've always had Panasonic stuff... been pretty rock solid. I've preferred plasma... and that is where they have excelled.

If I was starting from scratch I could be tempted by Samsung - they seem to have really lifted their game across the board in the last couple of years (and I think they make most of Sony's screens).

No panasonics are the best in plasma's and all the rest are on par with each other.

I'm pretty convinced this is the one I'm going to get after considering price and the features I'm after. I could maybe be swayed by a similar tv minus the 3D if I could save a few hundred, but there doesn't seem to be any. It seems as though it's either low end or high end, nothing in the middle...

The question is do I impulsively walk into JB now and get it or do I wait until the new year....

$698 at JB. It's the cheapest I've seen it.

I bought an LG LCD (one of those Scarlet ones) a couple years ago. Beautiful picture (and really thin too considering it wasn't LED) but the speakers were shot. Got a replacement which was also shot. In the time it took DSE to work out they couldn't source a replacement the new model came out. Three times as thick and the picture quality was noticably poorer. It was incompatible with the HDCP of the PS3. The picture would turn to snow every few seconds when set to 1080p output.

Ended up swapping for a Panasonic Plasma and haven't looked back.

Got a free 26" LCD and Xbox 360 out of it though!

I reckon you could go into jb and get the panasonic 3d plasma smart tv for maybe $100 more and its a 50"
Plasma technology is at its peak and tbh led and lcd don't come close when it comes to looking at fast objects onscreen.

Hmm... I'd have to find another room to put it in haha... And it's more like $200 more... Already above my budget. But I'll check it out nonetheless. I never really considered plasma because I like the idea of LED and how they look. That said I'll check it out...

Plasma > LED when on.

Plasma < LED when off.

As I like prefer to watch TV when it's powered on, I prefer plasma.

No burn in issues on either of my LCD tv's - which I've had for 5 years.

Burn-in hasn't been a problem since the first generations of plasmas. Can we move on please?

I finally got my TV.

I ended up paying $509 total (including shipping etc...) for this little baby (refurbished) on graysonline.

So, I'm on the lookout. Pretty much my only prereqs are that it's 42" and around $700-800. After seeing Tintin, I guess I might consider 3D as well. Oh, and 1080p.

Can I get something decent, keeping those things in mind? Even at this time of year?

$100 more but well worth the outlay oh and its a 50" but believe me once you go large you won't go back.
Panasonic bought the pioneer plasma plant so you can't go wrong.

898-509= $389

That's $389 more than what I paid, not $100.

That does look like a nice set though. I can see myself maybe getting 3D set one day but I want it to be huge. Because as soon as the 3D hits the edge of the screen the illusion is over.

The set I got will keep me going for a good 5 years until 3D sets come down in price and there's more content available.

Was actually eyeballing that telly, Ministry, but the 42 inch one. But it's about $40 difference at JB, but cheaper at some other places. Would it be safe to assume that the 50" would use exactly the same screen/tech as the TH-P42UT30A? I'd guess they came from the same factory, but wouldn't want to buy one based on that in case I was wrong.
