Asia bloc running game

Comment by Robert Craddock
November 05, 2006

WE have been whispering it for years but now it's official - the Asian nations run cricket.

Whether it be chasing the rights to host a World Cup, getting officials in important positions or getting rid of an umpire the Asia bloc gets what it wants.

England and Australia officials may luxuriate in holding the oldest and most famous series, but when it comes to holding power they are no longer the kings.

The demise of Darrell Hair as an umpire is a classic example of this and it's sad for all sorts of reasons.

Firstly it shows how dangerous it is when a sport is governed by its own participants.

It should never have been up to the Asia nations to decide Hair's fate.

That decision should have been made by ICC staff, such as cricket operations boss Dave Richardson in consultation with umpires boss Doug Cowie.

As it turns out, the opinions of Cowie, Richardson and even ICC chief executive Mal Speed meant nothing compared to the views and voting power of officials from featherweight nations such as Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, who, knowing what's good for their future, fell into line.

Hair's axing sets a chilling precedent, as other umpires will now be running scared of offending any or all of the four subcontinental nations - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh - who might, at times, loathe each other, but invariably vote together on important issues.

The Sunday Mail (Qld)
Sad.

I just use cricket.com.au
But I'd like to hear thoughts from others as to which might be the better source. Like I think cricket.com.au has comprehensive news and shit but doesn't have live scorecards for that many matches.

Anywayz, YESSSSS!!! :D

Australia has claimed its first Champions Trophy with a comfortable eight-wicket victory over defending champions the West Indies in Mumbai.
Shane Watson and Damien Martyn were the pair to steer the Aussies home with a 103-run third-wicket stand after the losses Adam Gilchrist and Ponting within the first four overs.

cricinfo/baggygreen is definitely the best for international matches like last night. http://www.cricket.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is better for domestic games, although if there's a domestic one-dayer on I still check baggygreen to see if they're doing a ball by ball coverage on it cos occasionally they do.

Do any of you fellas have tour matches with your state teams?

I've decided I'm gonna go see the Redbacks play England on Friday Nov 17th - Sun 19th.

Should be a very interesting game, lol

I was so close to paying an extra $280 to get a transferable members card when I renewed my Adelaide Oval Membership a few months ago. Unfortunately it basically doubles the existing amount it costs just for one person over just one season, so fuck that...

But otherwise I'd offer kids to go...

I used to go to heaps of pura cup matches...

I was the Tasmanian Cricket Association Doctor... free entry / air conditioned members area / lunch with the sponsors.

Not half as much fun as sitting on the hill though :)

There's a QLD Bulls showbag at the Ekka, it costs $15 and amongst all the shit you get in it is a season pass. Absolutely priceless, every pura and ing cup game free.

Just had a thought, do you reckon the Wii could make a maaaad cricket game? Where you have to play the shots?! haha I'd love that.

Bowling would get pretty fucked though!

Fielding in general would be fucked
Bowling could be acheived, maybe just one swing of the arm? Like from shoulder height, backwards and around in a full revolution? The only real problem would be the physics of it all. By that I mean where you can pitch the ball, how can you spin the ball or even swing it....spin, pace bowling, whatever.

Then batting. Definately ideal but couldn't be accounted for all possibilities in cricket. Golf, Tennis, Baseball are all easy games for the Wii coz every shot is meant to be hit straight in front of you as opposed to edging a delivery to 3rd man in cricket.

Having said that though, I llike to think I have a decent imagination. A Wii Cricket game would be fun, but extremely different from anything else. A shit load more to account for. The first thing I would try in Wii cricket would be the reverse sweep! (could never do one when I used to play for real)

Yea Dizzy was meant to playing last night when I saw the Redbacks lose to the Blues. Cosgrove is good with the bat, but just too fat. Tait better bowl better than he did last night....
