Re: All purpose UFC/MMA thread
The fuck...?
Yep, Jones is a complete dick. Originally he didn't want to fight Machida again because that's high risk / low reward and he needs all that bling to put his kids through college (plus to crash the odd Bentley and get some hooker threesomes I suppose). Just the other day he was virtually calling himself Floyd – it’s all about the money. But then he didn’t want to entertain the possibility of fighting Sonnen either (even though it would make big money).
Being responsible for the cancellation of an entire event will guarantee he becomes very unpopular in the UFC. I think Rashad was right about him all along.
Edit - he ain't too popular with the undercard fighters now either:

I hope Dana looks after those undercard fighters. And I'm sure he will make sure Jon Jones gets what is coming to him.

Re: All purpose UFC/MMA thread
Fuck sake, now it's Jones vs Belfort at 152? Just...fucking ridiculous.
Oh, and apparently Anderson Silva also offered to save 151 by fighting another light heavyweight, even though he's not in the best shape at the moment. That's what you want from a champion, not "I don't want to fight Machida, I won't fight Sonnen, won't fight short notice, won't fight unless I'm properly prepared" etc.
And Machida - piss poor. You get a shot, it's a little short but it's not like you haven't been thinking about how to beat Jones since the last time you met, and you turn it down because you want more time to prepare. Who knows what might happen down the track. You might get injured, he might get injured, there may never be a right time. Surely if you want to be champion then you jump on any chance, not sit around waiting for the perfect moment.
Some pathetic behaviour by UFC fighters in this incident. I hope Belfort somehow gets a miracle knockout. Highly unlikely, but that would be fucken funny he if managed it.
Another edit - Dana has already said that because Machida turned this down he'll probably need to fight another top contender before getting his shot. You dickhead Machida. This whole incident is a mess. It shouldn't be about just holding the belt, it should be about wanting to be the best. They should strip Jones of the official belt and give him the title of interim champion. Let others fight for the official belt next and then let him fight the winner of that. Then he can't be picking and choosing and dictating the conditions - if he wants to be called champion then fucken fight. Maybe he'd learn a lesson from that.

A good write-up of the whole UFC 151 debacle:

Re: All purpose UFC/MMA thread
So it turns out Henderson sustained his injury 3 weeks ago but they didn't tell anyone about it until last week. I'm putting a fair share of blame on Hendo's camp. At least tell the UFC that their man is hurt and they should get a backup guy on deck just in case.
I wonder if Jones will highlight-reel KO Belfort like Silva did?

Re: All purpose UFC/MMA thread
Which is likely why Chael started the shit talking out of the blue (as he would've known).
And Jones had better make quick work of Belfort or he'll confirm that he's not as good as Silva.

TUF Smashes ep1 wasn't bad, the fight was pretty embarrassing however
TUF 16 looks crazy going by the first ep, most fighters don't impress me but they will be crazy housemates

Re: All purpose UFC/MMA thread
Yeah, that was a bit ordinary. The trip takedown wasn't bad but he didn't do much with it. Managed to avoid a triangle reasonably well, but wasn't he meant to be a striker? On the feet he looked slow and weak and there didn't seem to be much technique going on.
Hopefully the next fights look better.

So Sonnen has done it - talked his way into coaching against (and then fighting) Jon Jones in the next TUF.

Re: All purpose UFC/MMA thread
Actually, when you think about it...
Silva knocked out Belfort with the first highlight reel front kick to the face in round 1, whereas Jones was in early trouble but finally submitted him in round 4. Silva TKO'd Bonner with a highlight reel infinite knee of fuckyeah in round 1, whereas Jones took it to a decision. Silva submitted Henderson in round 2, whereas Jones cancelled an event.
So given the fact that PED enhanced Sonnen took Silva to 5 rounds he should easily beat Jones*. Unfortunately non-roided Sonnen only made it to round 2 last time.
* I don't actually think that will happen at all.

hahaha Sonnen doesn't deserve it but the TUF season will be fucking great with him shit talking Jones 24/7.
Jones will blow him up in their fight, however.

Re: All purpose UFC/MMA thread
You can already watch what Sonnen will say on TUF, just look up some old wrestling promos from Superstar Billy Graham, Dusty Rhodes or whoever from the late 70s/early 80s.

Re: All purpose UFC/MMA thread
Dana is trying hard to set up Jones v Silva. I think it would be a terribly boring fight because you know Jones wouldn't go after him and Silva would stand there until he did.

Re: All purpose UFC/MMA thread
Yeah, great card!
I think Francis Carmont was lucky to get the decision against Lawlor to tell the truth. Hendricks is an animal, no one knocks out Kampmann like that (Finch either!).
Regarding GSP's performance....
To comeback from an ACL tear, 18mths out of the cage and compete the way he did...absolute champion
I have to say though, as much as I'm a fan of GSP I just don't see anyone getting past Silva.

Lawlor got absolutely hosed by the judges. Retarded decision.
Hendricks is a young Dan Henderson and deserves a shot at the strap.
GSP wins by decision yet again, but this one was FAR from boring, possibly fight of the year. Condit gave him everything he could handle. Fantastic 5 rounder.

Re: All purpose UFC/MMA thread
The only bet I placed on that whole event was for Hendricks to KO Kampmann at 6-something to 1. Easy money. Kampmann is tough (lol @ the comes from behind Rogan comment) but he gets hit too much and that was always gonna be a problem against a power puncher. I'd like to see Hendricks v GSP too but honestly, I'd probably expect that to go similarly to either of the Koscheck fights.
GSP was damn impressive considering what he's coming back from.
