Kevin11+2 - Rudd's revenge | RIP JuLIAR

Post by pilonv1 »

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's leadership is under siege tonight from some of the Labor Party's most influential factional warlords.

The ABC has learned that powerful party figures have been secretly canvassing numbers for a move to dump the Prime Minister and replace him with his deputy, Julia Gillard.

Television cameras captured Ms Gillard and Defence Minister John Faulkner going into Mr Rudd's office. They have since been joined by Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner, Anthony Albanese and Senator Joe Ludwig.

Factional support for Mr Rudd has collapsed around the country and the Australian Workers Union (AWU) is now supporting Ms Gillard.

The ABC understands that senior ministers are in shock at how quickly all this has unfolded. One senior minister told ABC "this is madness".

Earlier, Senator Faulkner was being interviewed by the 7.30 Report's Kerry O'Brien when he was told of the news.

"I don't know what's on ABC news all I know is I've been sitting here talking to you. It might be on the ABC news and it's also news to me," Senator Faulkner said.

Ministers and party members have been lining up all week to voice their support for Mr Rudd but behind the scenes, party leaders have been contemplating a leadership change.

Although Mr Rudd looks likely to survive the challenge, news of the attempted coup will undoubtedly weaken him.

It is understood that the only thing holding the Prime Minister up is that his deputy refuses to join in a bid to bring him down.

A series of bad poll results have seen the ALP's primary vote tracking as low as 33 per cent.

The polls dived after a series of policy bungles and backflips made by the Government, including shelving the emissions trading scheme.

Any serious talk of a challenge is the last thing Mr Rudd needs as the Government prepares for the election.

However, if MPs want to act they will have to do so quickly.

Tomorrow will be the last sitting day before Federal Parliament breaks over winter.

This means that if a challenge was to be made against Mr Rudd to install Ms Gillard before the next election, it would have to be done tomorrow before MPs leave to go back to their electorate.

Earlier today it was revealed that the Prime Minister's chief of staff, Alistair Jordan, had been contacting Labor MPs to discuss the Government's performance.

On Friday Mr Rudd will travel to Canada for the Group of 20 leaders' meeting.
Tremendous news.

This is actually bad if you don't want labour to win the next election. Julia is far more likely to win. Doesn't matter about policy, a lot of women will vote for her non logically just because she would be first female prime minister. That means we will cop our China style internet censorship and website-visited tracking.

 Channel 7 said he had quit and that Gillard was PM, then quickly had to change their banner headline thing to say there will be a leadership vote tomorrow morning.

If she wins the vote she'll be the prime minister tomorrow. So she'll be the first female prime minister and maybe one of the shortest reigning pms too if they still don't win the election.

I don't want to vote for rudd, gillard, or abbott.

I'd rather vote Gillard than Abbott. That's a bit like saying I prefer to have a bowl of ice-cream than be run over by a speeding, flaming bus though...

It's amazing how time flies. He smacked down Johnny Howard. He signed Kyoto. He said sorry to the abos. I know of latte lefties at uni who literally CRIED WITH JOY at the things Kevin07 the Aussie Obama did.

And now this

It's because he's done nothing notable since those things. I've not heard his voice on any kind of media prior to tonight for fucking ages... been largely invisible during the second half of his PMship.

Gillard might be voted in as PM. She might usurp the role for a while beforehand and rightly so. But she doesn't deserve to be PM. Though you'd have to be thick not to see the same people who bought Rudd's line will happily vote for Gillard on the same principles. It's not about voting for what might be best for the country as a whole any more. Perhaps Gillard might have learned that watching her boss promise the world. I'd be happy to give her a go if she cleans house and starts anew.

I Cannot tell you how sweet it is to see this PM, who never deserved the job in the first place, to be under such strain so early in his tenure. Perhaps people will think before they vote next time.

I think they should raise the voting age to 30. Labor would be finished as a party. But they're not yet.

I've said a few times that Gillard has a rat face and/or snake eyes. Shifty looking woman. Do not like.

List of fuckups that I can think off the top of my head (feel free to add to them):

Free $900 did it for me (I knew then he was a waste of space).

First home vendors boost - made housing even more unaffordable whilst sucking more tax payer money.

Rudd schools money - 1 million dollar terrapins, ripping down and rebuilding gyms etc

Insulation scheme = FAIL ... not personally blaming him for the fires but we shouldn’t be giving free shit out hand over fist

NBN... on the fence.. Electrocuted workers not his fault, net filter Epic FAIL

Rudd PC’s for kids.. 1 PC for each kid then making colleges try and fit them all in some how,
if he was that desperate it should have been a rebate on the family tax benefit.

ETS... well its bad either way
1. iI was a shit scheme and should never have been thought up.
2. It was cancelled pissing off the people who thought it was a good scheme
Flip Flop FAIL, everyone pissed!

Federal hospital system... that will end well too no doubt...

Mining tax (pissing the boomers off and every other super owning Aussie)

Good on you Labor. Now when kids read about this in their history books they can read all about the inspirational story about how our first female PM was elected leader of the opposition, united a party and won a hard fought election.

Oh wait. They're going to read how she was installed as part of a public mutiny. Fuck you Labor.
