Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
Another awesome episode, although it had one of the hardest scenes ever to watch in it. I can't believe they went through with it, even if they didn't actually show much visually. Stannis is a fucking cunt. As a father I just can't believe anyone could do that. I would rather die before allowing that to happen, and I would let my entire kingdom die before that. Fuck the throne. Fuck everything else. Your kids come before absolutely everything else.
Everything after that was pure fucking awesome though. The gladiator scenes were nice, and while the fighting and gore didn't come close to Spartacus gladiator scenes, the events that followed the fight were epic. Fire time I have ever watched the show live and it's going to suck watching it a few hours later next week. Wish next Monday was a public holiday aswell.

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
Yeah apparently the book fans hated it. Having never read the books, I just take it for what it is. Didn't like the scene or believe any there's any scenario where a father could make that decision. No matter what greater good he thinks it is for. But it happened and hopefully was worth it for the story.
But Stannis is now on my list of guys who need a brutal painful death. Right up there with Ramsay.

I didn't bat an eyelid over the Stanis scene. I think some things in GoT have lost their intended effect. I don't care too much about his storyline so when it happened it was just your usual GoT crap...
Final scene was all I cared about really. Oh and every line out of Brom's mouth.

Bleh. That Stanis scene is made up for tv. It's not in the books which are much closer to actual events.
Meereen is basically the equivalent of the farm in The Walking Dead. We spend too long there in TV's Game of Thrones and also in the books.
I didn't buy TV's Game of Thrones' Stanis allowing his daughter to burn at the stake. I just didn't buy it at all. I think TV's Game of Thrones has jumped the shark. And most of the Drogon stuff at the end looked fake. Like they blew their SFX budget on the battle last week which looked amaze.
Glad I read the books...and they do go a bit off track too.

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
I’m starting to become a bit bored of the whole thing too. I’m still watching, still enjoying it a little, but it all feels a bit same old and meandering and like there was never any tight knit tale in there but instead just a typical rambling author with a good initial shtick in search of a strong editor to slap some coherence into him. Everyone’s just piss-farting around now and doing bugger all. I’m glad I didn’t read beyond the first book in the same way that I’m glad I stopped reading the Wheel of Time series after a couple.
I really wish studios would approach these things with the expectation of telling a complete tale in around 3 seasons. End with a bang and some meaning instead of the inevitable whimper that will come as a result of people having lost interest and the story never living up to its promise or really going anywhere.
The Stannis scene was a damp squib. The final bit was hokey. Last week’s episode was reasonably good.

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
I found it a bit weird that jorah was a kick ass fighter when he beat everyone easily in front of kalesee a few weeks ago. Now he struggled to get through each fighter and really only survived thanks to one of the others. Is it the greyscale making him weaker? Sometimes the choreography of the fights are not as good week to week either. Sometimes it's obvious that they're just actors playing with swords.

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
Even though it didn't look it from the quality of the fighting, they were supposed to be much better fighters than those last week.
Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
I just wish Martin would finish the books already. The TV series is decent but it has deviated a shit load, the last two seasons especially. I find it disappointing the show runners are completely ignoring a plot point from the books involving a certain relative of Danerys. I'll keep watching, just glad True Detective is coming back shortly.

Just watched the scene in question with Meereen. Seemed a bit like violence porn :/

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
There are a lot of characters left out. It's as if they're not confident the audience can follow any new plots and characters. It's odd considering how much you're asked to deal with in the first few seasons.

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
I've been on board right up until the middle of last season. They went off book and didn't need to. If they had have kept it to a book per season there'd be less panic that Martin won't finish in time. To be honest part of me thinks it's a good thing they've deviated so much. The books remain unfinished and not everything has been disclosed to the book readers via the show. I'll be watching the show with a different perspective now. There's nothing left for comparison. They can take it wherever they want and Martin can experiment with his characters before writing them down. I can't think of any other time fiction has been created this way.Twit wrote:

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
Writing
Game of Thrones has used seven writers over the course of five seasons. Series creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss are the showrunners and write the majority of the episodes each season.[34]
A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin wrote one episode in each of the first four seasons, but has not written an episode for the fifth or sixth seasons, as Martin wants to focus on completing the sixth novel, The Winds of Winter.[35] Jane Espenson co-wrote one episode for the first season as a freelance writer.[36]
Bryan Cogman, who initially was a script coordinator for the series,[36] was promoted to a producer beginning with the fifth season. Cogman wrote at least one episode for the first five seasons, and is the only other writer to be in the writers' room with Benioff and Weiss; besides Vanessa Taylor, who was a writer during the second and third seasons. Dave Hill joined the writing staff for the fifth season after previously working as an assistant to Benioff and Weiss.[37] Martin is not in the writers' room, but reads the script outlines and gives notes.[34]
Benioff and Weiss sometimes assign various characters to each writer; for example, Cogman was assigned Arya for the fourth season. From there, the writers spend a few weeks writing a character outline, including what material from the novels to use and what the themes are. After the individual outlines are complete, the writers spend another two-to-three weeks discussing each main character's individual arc, and arrange them episode-by-episode.[34]
From there, a detailed outline is created and each of the writers work on a portion of it, to create a script for each episode. Cogman, who wrote two episodes for the fifth season, took a month and a half to complete both scripts. The scripts are then read by Benioff and Weiss, who give notes, and then parts of script are rewritten. All ten episodes are written before filming begins, as all the episodes are filmed simultaneously, out of order, and using two separate units in different countries.[34]
Adaptation schedule
Showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss intend to adapt the entirety of the still incomplete A Song of Ice and Fire novel series. In 2013, they envisioned the series to have a scope of some 80 hours, about eight seasons' worth of material.[38] In March 2015, Benioff and Weiss said that with the fifth season adapting all material from the novels published so far, Game of Thrones might begin outpacing A Song of Ice and Fire in the sixth season. The series would then be based on an outline of the plot of the future novels provided by Martin.[39]
As of 2015, six seasons have been ordered and five have been filmed, adapting the novels at a rate of about 0.8 minutes per page for the first three seasons.

Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
I couldn't care less about the child burning.
What annoys me is how consistently they keep undercutting the Unsullied in what feels like incredibly lazy writing.
All of a sudden these Unsullied - who have been bred for war every day of their lives to the point of removing their man-junk and were initially shown to be unrivaled combat experts - who also number Ten thousand strong, are suddenly outmatched and outnumbered handily by a bunch of mask-wearing renegades. They fight like scrubs now. And you just know it's because the writers were too fucking lazy to work out a smarter way of usurping Dany's power as Queen, so they went the laziest route possible aka 'Unsullied maybe aren't THAT good or THAT numerous? Maybe... just maybe... they're actually kind of shit!'

This was my issue too, I saw them getting slaughtered from shitty attack moves and just kept wondering why did she have these Unsillied guarding her when they couldn't even defend themselves?Scullibundo wrote: All of a sudden these Unsullied - who have been bred for war every day of their lives to the point of removing their man-junk and were initially shown to be unrivaled combat experts - who also number Ten thousand strong, are suddenly outmatched and outnumbered handily by a bunch of mask-wearing renegades. Re: Game of Thrones [TV HBO]
The only thing I could say about the Unsullied is that I thought they were bred and trained for open field combat, hence their weapon of choice being spears.
I'd imagine the Dothraki being far more effective at confined, close-quarters combat than the Unsullied.
But yes the point still stands - she went after them to recruit an army of cold-blooded killers, and now they're getting killed wholesale by randoms in masks.

Yep that scene in the alley where they all got killed and old white beard saved them pissed me off. It's like Jet Li been beaten by two old farts.

Every time where the sullied where beaten weren't greatly out numbered by the gold mask dudes? In the alley and in the Colosseum. And didn't they mention after killing that dude with the whore that they will continue to ambush small groups of the sullied??GreyWizzard wrote:Yep that scene in the alley where they all got killed and old white beard saved them pissed me off. Yeah, I mean it's much more realistic that no matter how good a fighter is they'd still have trouble being outnumbered and surrounded. I guess we're all used to action heroes. The amount of masked men that came out in the colosseum was off-putting though.

Why would you have the entire army in the colosseum though?
