Queensland Floods - http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/

Post by westical »

I have to say I'm sick to death of how much it's rained in Brisbane since I moved here, but then I can thank my lucky stars that I'm not stuck in Rocky on rationed food or getting washed down the main street of Toowoomba. Bit of rain to and from work is nothing.

That video of the cars being swept down the street in Toowoomba is nasty stuff. Hope everyone is ok.

It started raining in like September or something and has barely stopped. I heard we've averaged something like 3 hours of sunshine a day since summer started. I've had a gutfull.

Apparently the Toowoomba water is coming to Brisbane tomorrow. Think I might werk from home.

Some pretty insane falls recently. People are comparing it to 1974 rainfall, which was one of the strongest La Nina years on record. Hopefully no-one here is in any trouble from it. It's bad enough as it is by the sounds. :(

Far out.

I wonder if now they'll build some more dams? Apparently one of the scrapped dams would have made a big impact in minimising the damage from some of these floods.

My family's all in Brisbane and they're currently worried about losing their house, office, the whole lot.

I can't remember which suburb of Brisbane my old man lives in, but he reckons his area is going to be okay. Expects some very low flooding but nothing like we've seen in the news so far.

Apparently so! It's mayhem there with cars just everywhere. People are freaking out with what's happened in Toowoomba and Rockhampton.

About a third of Ipswich's suburbs are expected to go underwater tonight - hundreds of streets will be flooded.

Caboolture is cut off from the rest of the world as we speak.
Early this morning, Brisbane River was tipped to rise 3.1 metres.
Half an hour ago that was revised to 3.5 metres.
West End, the Valley, and the CBD of Brisbane is being evacuated.

Yep, we were told to start heading home about 9AM, I didn't leave until midday and public transport was chockers. Word is that it will stop completely soon, ferries have already been cancelled and some of the trains have too.

him: yup

Then nothing after that. Crazy how quickly things changed.

Is ABC News 24 covering this or is there something less important for them to be showing?

It's all over the TV at the moment. Just heard the Queensland Premier and Gillard talk. Crazy stuff.

Hope all the Ranchers are OK.

I checked the brisbane flood map and thankfully my street is not in a flood area. But if it does flood near me I'm pretty cut off though :(

Here is all the flood warnings for Brisbane - http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has all the flood maps for each suburb. I was trying to find one for Redland City as that is where my family is...

My GF was told to go home today...

My place isn't prone to flooding but is in the overland flow path.

And another reason why you shouldn't vote for Labor -

Just got home. Left work about 1.40pm. Not too bad I guess.
Ridiculous amounts of water. I should have took some photos.
I don't think the CBD is forced evacuations. It wasn't when I left anyhow. But most people I know had left work. The streets were busy with cars, but the entire CBD was a pedestrian desert.

We're alright. Live on the top of a hill. It's me - Paranoia pays off sometimes.
Stockpile. Fill every container with fresh water. Lock and load. :P
