Re: Smartphone advice
This thread will do.
Microsoft released an official XBox Live app for Android, which I just downloaded and played with.
I have to admit; if Windows Phone is that pretty and well-polished throughout, then it's certainly a tempting proposition.

Re: Smartphone advice
Just checked it out, looks very nice on the HTC One XL!
Re: Smartphone advice
Just playing with my new HTC One XL.
Superb phone... even if I am struggling over the balance between screen real estate and docking space in my pocket.
Will also look at the Xbox app.

Just been reading this thread at gaf

Pretty stoked to see people talking about (and choosing) the Nokia 920, hopefully wp8 will get some traction... About time a true flagship phone surfaced.
Such a cool looking phone, the screen it awesome, the camera is awesome, and pillow charging looks awesome.
And as a wp7 user I know the os is awesome
Fuck it looks big though

Re: Smartphone advice
Yup, now that the iPhone 5 appears to be such a yawn, the Lumia 920 has jumped to the top of my list along with the RAZR HD.
Glad I didn't cave and get the S3. Such an ugly phone.

Re: Smartphone advice
To be honest I haven't given android a chance at all after my wife had her galaxy s, it was the buggiest heap of shit I've ever seen, I'm sure android is better now but the s3 feels like a cheap toy... I have a Samsung omnia 7 and its metal build feels great, don't know why the galaxy s series are se cheap when they are the flagship devices.
I just hope it sells, competition is good for everyone

The HTC windows 8 phones are very complimentary to the Lumia 920.

Another one... Image stabilization is awesome for both stills and video
Although I have a dslr the bulk of my general photography and videography is done with my phone and iPad... So this kind of ois is very appealing to me

Re: Smartphone advice
Thinking that I might grab one as well. Ditch the 4S, grab an iPad mini so I can still use all my apps (and also to use as an ereader) and 920 for phone usage.

Re: Smartphone advice
The HTC 8X does look decent and much lighter but Nokia apps, better screen and camera lean me towards the 920.
Still hanging to actually see the features of wp8 though.

Re: Smartphone advice
It will be a hard choice between the Lumia and Razr. I'm leaning more towards the Razr at the moment given it is confirmed for the Telstra 4G network but if the 920 was announced similarly I would jump ship to Win8.

Re: Smartphone advice
I wish Nokia all the best. I have great memories of most of their phones that I used - the only bad one was the N70, which felt like it was powered by a mouse running in a wheel. A dead mouse.
Windows Phone worries me though. Hopefully they've made WP8 work on a wider range of hardware than WP7, but the very fact that MS tried to sell WP7 as the be-all and end-all of mobile operating systems, only to decide that nothing would get an upgrade to WP8 is a little concerning. Then there's the lack of compatibility of apps between WP7 and WP8 (WP7 apps will work on WP8 but not vice-versa). I can kind of understand their reasons, but what does that say about their upgrade path? You can cry 'fragmentation' all you want at Android, but at least when you buy a high-end HTC or Samsung Android phone, you can be reasonably sure it's going to get the next major OS update. You know that your phone isn't going to get completely abandoned just because a new OS is out.
I dunno. I like the concept of Windows Phone. I like the design and the metaphors it uses, even if I think WP8 looks a little cluttered in comparison to WP7. It just leaves me feeling a little jittery about the future of anything running it.
It's almost the Mitt Romney of the mobile phone world.

Re: Smartphone advice
What's really the great benefit of wireless charging? It still needs a power point in some way, right? You still have to leave it somewhere to charge. Is a cable the only thing it's saving?
Meanwhile, why are people interested in WP8? Isn't it already too far behind Android and iOS for decent market penetration and indie support? I'm sure you guys see something in it though; just wondering.

Re: Smartphone advice
Unfnk- I think they had to do that because they wp8 so drastically, with it using the same core as windows 8 or whatever the fuck they said it does... It mustn't be possible for apps to work on both, poor old wp7 owners should been burned but I can't see that happening again.
Even software updates have to be separate, but you can at least be sure that both will be streamlined and silky smooth.
Deef- there's a few reasons why I like it, I simply want to put my phone down on my bedside table when I go to bed, as it is I fumble around in the dark trying to get the dick in, it shits me!
Some dock already has NFC so it launches an app automatically when charging, that could be an alarm clock app or whatever
Market share and indie support is tough because everyone is already so invested in iOS or android, but there are finally decent phones coming out now, the lumia 920 looks shit hot and people are talking about it, that'll help.
We don't know much about wp8 yet, but its a slick os

Re: Smartphone advice
unfnk - to be fair on Microsoft, they are switching out the whole kernel from CE to NT and bringing some huge framework / platform changes along with that. It's a move they really had to make, they are still releasing 7.8 for existing users, and have guaranteed at least 18 months of updates for any WP8 devices.
