Re: Let's bag Apple - iPad thread
People were expecting something innovative. A spec bump is playing it very safe, this year we will see much better competition in tablets and windows 8.

Let's bag Apple - iPad thread
Apple never does major hardware changes every year. iPhone 3, 3G. iPhone 4, 4S. MacBook Air. MacBook Pro. iMac. Why does the iPad have to be any different? The iPod Nanos were refreshed more frequently, but they were always a mass market device, and even there the rehash cycle is not annual any more.
As the others have said, the ~260 ppi screen is actually a decent bump. Nothing else comes close to that in a 9" or larger screen.
The entitlement of Apple fanboys and Apple haters alike amazes me. If you expect a revolution and Apple doesn't deliver one, that's hardly Apple's fault.

Re: Let's bag Apple - iPad thread
Do any other phones screens have similar resolution to the ipone 4/s?
Retina display is awesome, and until other phones do they same they will always be behind
I can imagine the new ipad retina screen, put an ipad 2 and ipad 3 next to each other, it's a big deal.
you couldn't buy an ipad 2 now even at the reduced price

720p in the 5" or under category is >300ppi. So far that would be the Galaxy Nexus, Xperia S, LG Optimus LTE and HTC Rezound. 800x480 in the 3-4" range comes very close (I think at 3" it just clears 300ppi) but is often let down by shitty PenTile screens that infested that generation of displays.jizzlobber wrote:Do any other phones screens have similar resolution to the ipone 4/s?

Yeah, loads do now.jizzlobber wrote:Do any other phones screens have similar resolution to the ipone 4/s?
It'll sell to schools and nannas, and that's probably about it. The chicken wire screen is the only thing that separates the iPad 2 from greatness imo.jizzlobber wrote:I can imagine the new ipad retina screen, put an ipad 2 and ipad 3 next to each other, it's a big deal.

iPad get. I can't comment on the device itself (apps will be restoring for hours at this rate) but the screen is as amazing as you've heard. You can see the pixels, but only if you hold the screen unreasonably close to your face, otherwise it's bonkers sharp. Increase in thickness and weight are not discernible unless you're actively looking for the difference.

Except I don't think apple will get a free pass when it comes to competition like the iPod. Apple only had to deal with creative and iriver for years before any serious rival jumped in. By then it was too late.Peppermint Lounge wrote:Article so true it reads like common sense.
This time you have google, Microsoft, nvidia, Intel, Samsung, motorola, Sony, Amazon and PC oems moving into the market. That's a lot of serious competition. I think things will play out like they have in the smart phone market. The competition dynamics are similar.

Re: Let's bag Apple - iPad thread
Picked up the new iPad. Total impulse purchase with a little bit of spite thrown in. Went into Dick Smith to buy one (they had no one in there). Was told by a very snooty salesman that it was their policy not to price match on iPads. Manager wouldn't budge so I left and walked into Big W and bought the 3G model just cause thats what they had left (and what I really wanted in the first place).
Screen is nice. The difference is more noticable on web pages. Looking forward to HD updates of all my apps!

My wife was bored shitless with iPads. I gave her my old one 40 minutes ago, showed her a few apps and now she's exploding in the corner. I may never see her again.
Re: Let's bag Apple - iPad thread
I just don't think I would use an Ipad enough to warrant purchase. I have my Laptop for in the lounge room and my mobile for the bedroom so...

Got around six hours with 20-odd GB of app downloads, constant display at 100% and some graphics fiddling. Pretty pleased with that.

Re: Let's bag Apple - iPad thread
If you want to put iPhoto albums on your iPad, you have to sync in iTunes. If you sync in iTunes, it either deletes all your apps (what is what it did to me) or copies all your iOS apps to your Mac. There is no other option. Why I would want to copy to my Mac 13 GB of iOS apps that don't even work on a Mac I have no idea. As it stands, I cannot get my iPhoto albums onto my iPad, the device with the single best photo-viewing screen in the universe. Apple is a pack of very, very thick cunts. All Android fanboy trolling welcome.

Re: Let's bag Apple - iPad thread
That sort of behaviour is expected from Apple, so it's not really trolling
I used to be a tablet-hater, but I got mine just to dick about with Honeycomb and realised that they're far more useful (in terms of entertainment) than a laptop.
Seriously. I used to think that too, until I got my EeePad. Now both my Netbooks are collecting dust beside the bed. The tablet form factor is more annoying sometimes, but the range of applications available for them far outclasses laptops for entertainment purposes. E-book reading in bed is great (although I still think the Kindle is superior for this), and streaming video from your PC in HD is fantastic. Then there's the range of simple but fun games for them. Neither of my netbooks are good for any of that shit, despite having the same size screen and comparable specifications. The Windows and x86 combo just kills the battery life and Windows itself kills the performance of the platform.KillKen wrote:I just don't think I would use an Ipad enough to warrant purchase. Mine gets hot. Meh, it's a computer, it's running 3.1m pixels. If someone gets an ipad that's too hot to touch, they need to have it replaced, duh. Press is making a thing out of this as usual.
