Fairfax are really scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to manufacture a story out of an Apple launch.

Old iPad (now my wife's) died a week out of warranty. I called and they offered to replace it for $280. I mentioned the consumer guarantees in the new Australian Consumer Laws (effective 1 Jan 2011, available on the ACCC web site) that specify provisions of acceptable quality and fitness for purpose. Tomorrow I pick up my free replacement.

Vzz, I would have just taken it in. I took in an iPhone that was 3 months out of warranty with a dodgy headphone jack, was all ready to argue about australian consumer law, but they replaced it on the spot without question.

Just spent the last hour on the phone to Apple.. nice guy but he wasn't very savy about where to find certain files when they are saved to a PC...

It seems like my ipad has properly shit itself. Screen is black but back lit... only way I can get it to show an image is if I do a screen capture... tried hard resetting... flicks up the apple logo for a split second and then goes dark again. Sometimes if I hold it long enough... it gives me the chance to slide to power off.

PLus... when I sync... all my numbers files don't show up in itunes in the file sharing section. I'm a little concerned as I just recently collected a heap of data from clients from the last week... yeah yeah I should have backed it up asap... was planning to but never got round to it plus I am not using it for exercise program stuff now because paper is far quicker and easier.

Fingers crossed I get something good out of this clusterfuck. All the crashing and lagginess and now this... fucking GIMME.

I dunno gcf.... maybe you should get an android tablet.... maybe you'll have less trouble with it.... because obviously ipads don't agree with you.... I'm sure madmya or pep can recommend one for you.......

The thing is.. I really want to like it. Some of the apps I use are awesome. They make things easy and actually make me look a cut above the rest. However when it comes to the nitty gritty... it's just such a let down that the primary use I bought it for is just a complete and utter fail.

I will say that the guys who dealt with me this time were a lot better and indeed were all about pleasing me... I had 2 managers come and talk with me... the second one was wearing inappropriate pants and shoes for me to take him seriously. The sheer amount of hipster doofus at that place is staggering.

Thankfully they were able to replace the ipad... alas not with a newer version.. just a new ipad 1. Haven't had a decent out of time to test it out yet... but I'm curious to get everyone's opinion on my logic on this -

When I bought the ipad, safari never crashed. Numbers was quicker... alas worse... but since the update to ios4.. my ipad has been slow and laggy and things crash... more times than I think is acceptable. Now that some base functions are not working (because apparently the new safari doesn't like the old ipad... something about someone calling it a scrotum lickin bitch or somethin) and I also generally have no choice but to upgrade iOs... alas I'm left with a product that isn't what it originally was.. I think it a chance for perhaps getting a newer ipad..

New VEVO app is pretty sweet for streaming music videos. Better than Vidzone. Don't get why the iPhone version seems more fully featured though (e.g playlist matching).

Did you use the matching stuff or just search?

I found it had a) much more of my music and b) at much higher quality than youtube, plus it was easier to navigate. So I like it.

I'd suggest if you can't find _anything_ good on it, the problem may not be the app.

Just get Cinexplayer (yes it's an app store app) and play your AVI files natively. I use it on my iPhone 4 and it works great.
