Yes - Taken with my old Samsung Galaxy Beam Mobile phone. Held up to my telescopes eyepiece. Can just make out some cloud bands and the Cassini division in the rings.
For every slightly recognisable photo like the above, there is about 20 unrecognisable photos. Very hard to take. Most of the time the photo glares out and light floods everything. Also hard to manually line up the mobile phone camera with the pin point of light coming out of the eyepiece. And focusing is complete luck. Never focuses anywhere near as sharp as what looks visually. Also can see up to 5 of Saturn's moons through the eyepiece, but camera phone cant pick 'em up. Need to get some decent camera gear...
If you're interested in astronomy and astrophysics you should look up Brian Koberlein. He's on Google+ and frequently posts about complex subjects but conveys them in a way that is easy to understand. Most of all it's really interesting. If you're allergic to G+ he also has a blog at http://briankoberlein.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .
I am jealous of your epically clear night skies! I also miss my tekescope as I have left it at my rural parents house. Anyway happy to hear of your incoming telescope. It is really beautiful out there
Need advice, thinking of purchasing a telescope, want to spend around 1500-2000 dollars. Those photos you guys posted are mighty impressive btw.
There's just too many different types of telescopes available, I know I should read up on it first before buying, but I thought I'd ask in here too.
What do you think of the Celestron NexStar Evolution 8? it's a little out of my reach going at 3k, but it has some cool features like using the tablet with it.
Update: Forget about the telescope, I ended up buying a binoculars. SWAROVSKI EL 10x32 SWAROVISION. Yes, they're very expensive, but we all do stupid things once in awhile, plus I saved up some money since buying my car 6 months ago. I wanted something that will last me a lifetime and of high quality. My current pair of bins are Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 10X42MM BINOCULARS which aren't too bad really, but these new ones are lighter and of better quality.
Jupiter and Venus is super visible right now. If you live in Brisbane just walk out side and look eastish. Two stars right next to each other. Beautiful sight.
Evidence of a new planet found in our solar system with 3 objects (possibly moons) rotating around this. Apparently one orbit of the sun takes 20,000 Earth years. No pics yet but a paper has been published in hopes that others will focus on searching for it. Paper was written by the same guy that proved Pluto wasn't a planet.
