Future Interfaces And Personal/Work Gadgets
[search]Future Interfaces And Personal/Work Gadgets[/search]Anyone else obsessed with this shit? I can't get enough of it. Even when I read science fiction, my favourite stories are the ones that are set in the near future, describing technologies that we might actually see soon, or we can at least imagine easily without it being too great a leap.
Here's some favourites. I don't necessarily see all of these as realistic or even ideal, but I love looking at them.
Microsoft's vision of the near future:
Corning's vision of the near future:
North Kingdom's "Flash Futures" interactive feature from 2004, developed for Vodafone:

A few "ideal world" odd bits from Unplugged:

Any other good examples?

I love this sort of stuff I just watched the Microsoft one, so awesome, and I'm glad they threw the Internet fridge in there
I hope they sue the shit out of anyone who tries to bring this stuff to market too

People always try to predict what we will use in the future. They're almost never right.
The corning video is shameless self promotion; and unrealistic.

Re: Future Interfaces And Personal/Work Gadgets
Apparently in the future we don't have wedding rings?
Re: Future Interfaces And Personal/Work Gadgets
Here's a new one today from Nokia.
I particularly liked the way the twisting animation near the start made it look like an ad for a women's sanitary pad, and the reference to a skin joystick.
Jokes aside, it's an interesting concept.

Here's a new one from Corning;
It's a sequel to the one I posted earlier; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Cf7IL_eZ38" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

These are all pretty cool. Like you, I'm also interested in the near future stuff. Keep'em coming!

Google's heads-up display glasses. If it worked this nicely, I would never take the damn things off. So awesome.

Captain Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise got it right with clam shell mobile phones. They were just holding them wrong.Mr Troll wrote:People always try to predict what we will use in the future. They're almost never right.

I'd like to be able to fit the device to my existing glasses somehow.van wrote: Google's heads-up display glasses. If it worked this nicely, I would never take the damn things off. So awesome.

I saw a guy wearing Google Glass, err, glasses today. I love the bay area. I wonder how usable they actually are?

Tonnes of research is being done with organoelectronics which looks to be the focus of most of these videos, so I don't think they're far-fetched at all. It's a really cool area of research, I guess mostly because of the tech it will provide us.
Re: Future Interfaces And Personal/Work Gadgets
That Nokia concept phone looks cool but the form factor is shit - no one will want to buy a tampon shaped phone. Just on phones I wish I could go back a few generations. Still the best phone I have ever owned:
Great rear camera, One Seg digital TV tuner, forward facing camera, great battery life and screen and left on for 3 years without a single freeze or slowdown. Only lacked apps. Phone I would love if only if it was in Australia -
I miss slider phones with simple a OS that isn't prone to slowdown or freezing.
