The Eels are also going after Beau Scott for 2013. If Hindy retires next season that would be a huge signing for them. Fuck I'd love for Penrith to get a player anywhere near the quality of SBW or Scott. We're always losing that sort of quality and replacing it with shit.

I can't stand him as a person... but he's a high profile player and a signing like that would do a lot to improve our crowds and until he inevitably fucks us over improve the team aswell.

Also... bear in mind that our big signing for 2012 was Clint Newton. Topped off with Chris Armit, Cameron Ciraldo and former Panthers Junior Tia Kilifi and Geoff Daniela. IMO the best signings of that group are the former Panthers, and that's only because they're both still fairly young and have both shown promise in first grade.

I think it's probably fair for Melbourne to start as favourites, simply because they don't have the questions hanging over their heads that just about every other team does -

Warriors - loads of talent but lost their coach
Manly - turmoil, lost their coach
Brisbane - no Lockyer
Knights - big personnel turnover and lots of pressure
Raiders - one-man team
Souths - epic underachievers
Roosters - don't appear to have the talent on-field
Bulldogs - probably a good bet for top 4 but I hate them so fuck them
Titans - should really improve and contend for the 8 again but who saw last year coming?
Dragons - big changes, losing the coach is huge
Cowboys - strangely were bad when Thurston came BACK last year. WTF?
Penrith - are a team likely to improve into the 8
Tigers - they all hate each other
Eels - they're the Eels, failure is inevitable

The only sure bet in my mind right now is QLD, but it's not exactly a leap saying that.

Last year's were pretty mild. Brisbane making the top four probably helped.

Canterbury and Gold Coast will be the biggest improvers.

Thurston was still carrying that injured knee even in the Four Nations.

I'm tempted to go to Sydney for Round 1 against Parramatta.
