The Mac thread
Re: The Mac thread
Yeah I had to use Chrome. Convoluted.
I also just found out my CC has been blocked, ffs.

Re: The Mac thread
Was able to use a secondary card off my card, I think this is because I disputed a $10 charge on my card the other day
$32 for Parallels is amazing - I paid $80 last time, then $15 to upgrade to 7... thanks Cardsy

Wow the comments on the trackpad especially make me really glad I didn't buy a Zenbook or something.

Are you mad? It still has all the stupid layout bugs it always has, and it's slooooow as anything. On windows its great, but in osx it's shocking.Vzzzbx wrote:Word is better at everything, though. Even simple stuff is easier in Word these days.

Re: The Mac thread
Yeah my wife hated Mac Word so much she made me install the PC one via Parallels.

Re: The Mac thread
It's not great on OS X (and it still doesn't match the Win version by some distance) but it still shits on Pages. Maybe there'll be an iWork '12 for OS X and iOS that closes the gap.selfish wrote:Are you mad? It still has all the stupid layout bugs it always has, and it's slooooow as anything. Re: The Mac thread
Do I want to know what's fucked about pages, or is ignorance bliss?

Ignorance is usually always bliss. If you like something and it does everything you need, stick with it.

Re: The Mac thread
I just worry cause I'm about to start writing a thesis in it. Bad idea, or WORST IDEA?

Re: The Mac thread
I don't use Scrivener at all myself but I see it get recommended all over the place for that sort of stuff so I'd say Vzzzbx is probably right. You might also want to look at something like Papers for managing references? I dunno - never done did write no thing worthy of such fancy pants apps.

Re: The Mac thread
Well Apple themselves released an endnote plugin, which is good, especially seeing as that's where the reference library is stored, and we have someone to look after it for us.
Scrivener I will investigate. Thanks for linking to it, you twit.

I hope and assume you lot are being sarrrcarrstic because it’s the very first link that appears when you google it, but I tend to plonk links to everything everywhere just because I often come back to threads like this to find stuff again.

Middle-click is quicker than double-click, right click, search for, click link. Ah screw it, you were right - it was awesome of me to provide that link. I fucken rule.

Re: The Mac thread
As long as that third radio button remains, I think it's a good thing.
Also: Messages app now available, sends & receives messages to ios5 device. Still as ugly as ichat, just as limited.
It'd be nice if the adium guys reverse engineer it and build it into adium, I think.

I think that setting is a good thing.
If they get rid of it, I imagine people just won't upgrade.

The Mac thread
The main reason it's awesome is that it indicates Apple won't enforce a closed ecosystem upon Mac users and developers, at least for a while.
I would really love to see a similar system of signed apps for iOS.
