I solved it by installing Candelair.Twit wrote:For anyone using Plex who has that issue of iTunes starting up unless you have Quicktime running, I’ve found that the following seems to work:

...but the file they mention exists here:
http://nomitsu.com/download.php?file=mmfix" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
That works for me but it still brings up the annoying volume overlay when I’m navigating up and down. If I could get rid of that I’d be much happier. Another change that was suitable to my setup was replacing the Quit option on the Home screen with Sleep:

I considered grabbing that but wasn't sure. If you reckon it works without causing other problems then I might give it a bash, cheers.westical wrote:I solved it by installing Candelair.

Gee, yeah, because It won't handle Max Payne. Have you tried Parallels lately? I was playing Steam games like Trials on it without dramas.

Lulz, you can even play Crysis 2 at over 30fps:

Parallels is an amazing piece of software, I really feel no need to run Windows natively ever again.

Re: The Mac thread
runs fiiiine, the only issue i have is that parallels won't make it go TRUE fullscreen on this fucking massive ADC. 2560x1440 is apparently too huge a resolution?
That said, I probably shouldn't be playing this at work

Tried to install Vista with Parallels, keeps freezing when it's completing the installation or gets stuck trying to boot. Lucky there was a trial.

Re: The Mac thread
I had no issues with Vista, it had an unfair image.
Re: The Mac thread
Yeah I ran Vista for 5 years without dramas, I liked it. Windows 7 was basically the same with a nicer UI.
Not sure why you'd try running it with Parallels though, stick with Windows 7.

Re: The Mac thread
But in comparison to Windows 7 it is nothing!
Windows 7 is a really good operating system. I'm not sure if people are aware of this.

Re: The Mac thread
if only there existed some mechanism by which keys could be generated.
ANYWAY i've been switching to using pages instead of word. Holy fuck it makes it obvious how slow and bloated word is, and always has been. It's like having a whole new computer!
Can't quite bring myself to dump excel though, I don't have to use it enough to make it worthwhile…but I can sense it happening soon enough.

Word wins. Pages is orrite but fiddly, and the iOS version is complete balls. Apparently iOS Numbers is even worse.

Re: The Mac thread
Most people don't need the full functionality of Word, but when you do then I reckon Word is still the best option. If you just want some lightweight word processing though...yeah - it's amazing how much snappier it can be. I remember trying out MOApp’s Write a while ago. It was a very nicely put together little basic word processor that was simple and easy to use yet still had some nice deeper functionality in there, and from memory the whole app came to just a few MB and was insanely stupid quick & snappy.

Word is better at everything, though. Even simple stuff is easier in Word these days.
The only thing Pages has got going for it is price. What is it, twenty bucks? Dirt cheap.
I use Scrivener to kick off all my heavy duty stuff now. Word is stuck in an olde-worlde paradigm.

Re: The Mac thread
Parallels 7 for $49 plus 9 other apps you'll probably never use.

EDIT: $32 if you add the promo code "thankyou30"

Re: The Mac thread
awesome, thanks Cardsy, might upgrade my second pirated version to a legit copy
Re: The Mac thread
Huh, where do you put the promo code?
Re: The Mac thread
Follow the process down near the bottom of the page here:
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/62502" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I had to close the browser and restart it again for the promo code slot to show up.
