Re: the Metal thread
Fuck yeah, new Destrage. Awesome new album. They're perhaps not as weird as they were, but they're more diverse, musically stronger and still manage to produce heavy shit which feels fun.

Also, Anciients. Sludgy riffy Prog metal for people who miss old Mastodon.

A Sense of Gravity - Atrament
Progressive Metalcore in a similar light to Between The Buried And Me. Got it today and it's easily jumped into my top 10 of 2016.
Fucking phenomenal vocalist as well.

Re: the Metal thread
I was really pumped for the new Mastodon album when the songs started appearing with a sound similar to Crack The Skye. Then "Show Yourself" showed up and it was simplistic and poppy and my hype factor went down dramatically. I'm still interested, but it definitely won't be a return to their absolute best.

Yeah I don't mind Show Yourself, but yeah I'm with you - it's not the Mastodon I love.

Hey unfunk, I thought this version of Shooting Star was a lot better than the album version so you might appreciate it:

Impressions of Mastodon's Emperor of Sand?
Personally, it's their best album since Crack The Skye but the gap between them is pretty massive.

The more I listen to it, the better I like Magma. There's unplumbed depths here, that are difficult to explore.unfnknblvbl wrote:Do it. The album is fucking amazing right from the first song. The weird-arsed breakdown/solo at the end of Explosia is worth the price of entry alone, then there's the title track is brilliant. The Gift of Guilt is fucking majestic, but holy shit, Born in Winter takes the chorus idea from Gift and runs with it. The whole damn song is finger-tapping.Madmya wrote: I should get L'enfant Sauvage.
I have no idea how they do it on 6-string guitars. I can play it on my detuned 7s (drop-A) because of the different fretting positions, but I can't on the "correct" position...

Went and saw Living Colour last night. These guys are one of the first bands I every got into as a teen. Finally got to see them after 28 years and they fucken killed it. Musically so frigen tight and after all these years Corey's voice is still frigen amazing. One of the best gigs I've ever been to

Any Mike Patton/Slayer fans? Patton and Dave Lombardo have come back together for a hardcore album. I love the shit out of it.

Re: the Metal thread
Not a fan of Mr Bungle or Fantomas but do love Mike as a vocalist and am a massive FNM fan. Also have quite a few of Slayers albums although I stopped listening to most of their stuff after Divine Intervention.

Definitely closer to Fantomas than FNM. But I do love this album. Hits the spot.

Re: the Metal thread
Everybody is probably all over this already, but damn. I think the kids these days would call this a "banger". Is that right? I used to be with it...

Re: the Metal thread
new Tool is up at the usual places if you can't wait another day or two.
I don't dig Maynard on this one, but holy shit the rest of the band is spectacular.

Re: the Metal thread
I'll wait, its been 13 years since 10,000 Days, 2 more days won't kill me. Tell you what though, if I die before Friday I'll be fucking livid. Besides, my iPod Classic doesn't seem to get detected by my laptop so I can't transfer anything anyway.

Oddly, the physical version is missing the weird instrumental tracks due to space.

Re: the Metal thread
Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't go for a double album.
Even though I'm not digging the vocals or lyrics (first impression is that Maynard is whining about being famous), I'm liking this album way more than 10,000 Days so far. There's just so much more going on, and the other three have absolutely knocked it out of the park.
