Rings of Power

Had an OK start, some strong episodes, some weak ones (especially the penultimate one), and finished on a very strong note. Gorgeously shot, mostly well directed, mostly well acted. Stunning FX work. I can't believe I guessed the rough identity of the bloke that fell from the skies while a bunch of hardcore Tolkien nerds were insisting it was someone or something else.

8 enraged Tolkien nerds out of 10.

I agree. I initially thought RoP wouldn't be worth bothering with, but once I threw it on I didn't mind it at all. In particular, as you said, it's a good looking show, both in scene and actors.

Especially coming from House of the Dragon, which is just dull af and woefully ugly to look at all the time. The lighting is an utter disaster; just a fugly mess particularly towards the end of the season, making Rings of Power feel like a breath of bright, colourful relief. The two shows are the two extremes of how to make or not make a scene visually entertaining.

I'll happily sit down for more RoP when the new season rolls around, but I don't see myself giving any more time to HotD.

RoP managed (for me, anyway) that balance of looking great and being engaging. Foundation by contrast looked astonishing, but I stopped caring pretty quickly after the first couple of episodes.

I don’t watch much Netflix however the Dahmer series is bloody good.

I’m getting back into. I just moved to my new place, everything is set up, time to relax now.

Enjoying the Cyberpunk anime . Well worth a watch even if you haven’t played the game.

I'd like to do a decent write up, but no. Just going to say I watched Twisted Metal and it was decent enough to finish (which means alot coming from me).
I think it's on Binge or Stan or something (I just watched it on the Canadian streaming service ;) )

I smashed out Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 last week. What an excellent show. It manages to balance the best bits of Discovery and TOS to perfection. I'm loving the Gorn storyline. They make a better Alien story than any recent Alien film.

I also smashed out Lower Decks season 4. It's really come into its own now, I think.

And lastly, I'm finally catching up on Star Trek Discovery (S3...). Screw the haters, this show is top notch. Some of the finest Star Trek ever made, imo. It's just a pity that some of the super futuristic stuff is just silly. Star Trek has always had a kernel of possibility about it, no matter how fantastical it got. Physically detached nacelles, though? That's just being silly in the name of seeming futuristic.
All the rest, though? Acting, direction, cinematography, lighting, VFX... Even the weakest episodes are a feast for the senses.

Discovery is fucking awesome. I agree. My only gripe is the LGBT fam bam shit in the 4th season. Even I though that was far too vomitous.

All this talk of Star Trek makes me nostalgic for Babylon 5. I really hope it gets a new series eventually.

Hazbin Hotel

An animated musical series about Charlie, the princess of hell, trying to establish the Hazbin Hotel to redeem sinners.

Sooo good, loved it.

If you get into it, definitely go find the 4 year old pilot first on Youtube. Actually, here it is:

-
-

It's still a solid piece of the story, and it's cool to see the jump in quality between that pilot and the modern episodes.

Keith David as Husk sings to Angel Dust, the spider porn star. Stephanie Beatriz is Vaggie. Lucifer is funny. "Dickmaster" Adam (the Adam) is hilarious. Alistor, the radio demon, is such an interesting mix of demonic horror, charm, and mystery. Pretty much all the characters are really good, as is most of the music. One of my favourites is the song battle between Vox, the media demon overlord, and radio demon Alistor.

The story is enjoyable for the lore it sets up, the moments of intrigue it peppers around, and the way it covers quite a set of side characters in hell.

Enjoy the R-rating; the show certainly does.
