Hidef TV help

Post by vision »

Don't cry selfish, but I'm buying a new TV. Recommendations? Links to previous threads? Yes I'm lazy :D So much info and options out there though...

I'm thinking 42" flatscreen, no idea other than I want Xbox 360/PS3 to look good on it.

First you wanna decide if you want the digital box built into it.Mine is and I can say that it's very convenient to use one remote instead of two for simple TV viewing.

I got a Samsungtron that is spectacular..

And are you wanting it to do 1080p?

Not sure - do I? :D Depends on how much it adds to the price...

Being in the US with the hopeless state of cable and digital TV here I don't really need a tuner built in I don't think.

Oh..in that case just make sure it has hdmi and vga inputs and has a high refresh rate - 8ms will be sweet.
Screen rez should be 1366 x 768 or so at least.
No don't bother with a tuner.

Oh and make sure it does native rez on all inputs...this is prolly most important of all.

In the US? Grab a set that can accept 1080p via component and also has HDCP over HDMI/DVI. Should be alot easier to find there than here.

That's as future proof as you can get with HD TV's but it will cost more than a simple 720p set (Not that they really exist, 99% of panels are 1366x768). Worth it if you like HD movies, intend on getting a PS3, or have any faith in the 1080p announcement for 360.

Edit - " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... lectronics

Doesn't talk about inputs at all but not too expensive for a 1080p set.

Yeah get a 1080p TV for sure. Give me a call on the w/e and I'll tell you what you need to look for. Hope you're getting a decent home theatre with this.
