It's not even that, you get any group of 30 year olds and 40 year olds and watch half of them immediately take over and then crack it if someone tries to take their power. It's usually the stupid people because they've spent their whole lives having to do this because they know if they don't grab some degree of control straight away then they might miss out later once things become evident. Also it's the group pack mentality if I'm in control then I look better to the judges so they'll try to outdo each other for attention. The exact situation you went through I loathe.GeneraL CyberFunK wrote:It was pretty much like that when I asked "who here knows how to use a sextant?". Silence then "IT'S A COMPASS". After insisting about four or five times that it wasn't a compass and that since none of them could tell me what it looked like... I explained what it was and to their dismay... I was fucking well right.

Re: Big Brother 2012
Interestingly enough, the older peeps in the auditions were quieter and kinda sat back and watched as the younger "chiefs" tried to take control of the situation. In my group of 8, 3 of us were over 30 and we just watched and eye rolled at each other as the others just spoke over themselves and what they were saying was just rubbish. Like you said, it was leading for the sake of leading. Once I jumped in and explained that a sextant is not a compass and that the purpose of this task is being found and being found quickly and also that people are getting excluded because they werent getting the chance for input; things got a little better.
Alas I was outvoted when I explained that the petrol/oil was one of the most important things because we could set fire to it on the water or to something else and that would create a plume of smoke which would make it easier to be seen from the air. There wasn't much innovative thinking happening in my audition group.

If I was lost at sea and someone suggested setting fire to a load of petrol next to our liferaft I'd vote them off too.

And you'd end up dying because of it.
At the end of the task they explained that the setting fire to the petrol on the water and/or setting fire to the inflatable seat thing was correct thing to do based on the answers for the task that were devised by survival experts. Smoke billowing up from the ocean is generally a sign of something that needs to be investigated.

I'm still not convinced that setting fire to your boat is the best course of action.

It's not setting fire to the boat... it's setting fire to the petrol on water.. or inflating this weird inflatable seat thing and then having a cord tied to it and then setting fire to that.

I don't disagree with the core argument that items to attract attention are more important than medieval navigation aids.GeneraL CyberFunK wrote:It's not setting fire to the boat... it's setting fire to the petrol on water.. or inflating this weird inflatable seat thing and then having a cord tied to it and then setting fire to that.
I notice that many of those 'lost at sea' exercises say that the US Coastguard was the survival expert used, and yet I can't find any verification of that. This seems like a classic 'appeal to authority' logical fallacy. If a majority of survival experts agreed that flicking a cigarette into the middle of the ocean is a top idea then fair enough.

Re: Big Brother 2012
I had to do the stupid boat thing at a goup interview and it turned into a clusterfuck of stupidity and people talking over each other. I tried to express ideas but some woman next to me decidee to speak whenever I tried to. I got frustratee and just shut up... I didn't get the job either... Thank fuck. I think I'd want to gut myself if I ever got a job in a cult like place.

I would’ve pointed out the misspelling of the word opaque in the instructions, and then advised against using the “U.S. Army C rations” on the basis that they went out of production in the late 1950s / early 60s so would probably be toxic by now.

Re: Big Brother 2012
Exactly, Why would you want a sextant? Having to make sure its never set down, so the needle doesnt pop the boat would be too dangerous.
Re: Big Brother 2012
Ryan more scripted than a modern Sonic game.
That "How handy" Estelle head thing was funny.
Sarah still 30.

Re: Big Brother 2012
My issue with Brad being nominated is that we've seen fuck all of him being a dick to others on screen the last week. To mr it makes no sense... As much as I hate to say it but Estelle brought up a good point, Brad's behaviour is a product of how people are treating him in the house. They baby him and treat him like an experiment and then complain when he acts how they want him to.
I'm hoping Sarah goes with her complete over reaction to Ray and then acting like a bitch to everyone about it. Not clearing the air straight away and making a big deal about not wanting to clear the air was a stupid move. Sure Estelle crying made me laugh, but speaking down to her was so rud.
Does anyone remember how old Sarah is?

But Grey, he took off her cap during a hip hop dance-off. Took off her cap! Inexcusable. This is like the tea bagging all over again.

Re: Big Brother 2012
yeah, you are right. I mean she has watched hip-hop and dance movies and she knows they don't do that.
But Brad did bring up the point that this is tha streets and that Ray was probably going for authenticity and not just movie quality hip-hop dance rap battling.

Re: Big Brother 2012
I haven't seen the footage of it but based on her reaction and also how I think Ray would have done it.... I don't hold it against Sarah for being offended or maybe even a bit frightened. Maybe if he was laughing while doing it, it's different and could be seen as an overreaction. Or maybe I have been working with too many fragile women of late... I don't know.
Either way.. I'd like Ray gone.

Re: Big Brother 2012
Nup. Massive overreaction. Ray was playing around. He was clearly mimicking and even the little physical contact they did make wasn't brutal or threatening. It was just absurd dancing by Ray. Absurd in a good way. Sarah's reaction was appalling.

She was so terrified by Ray's threatening dancing that she went and pulled off Brad's hat and glasses.

I keep forgetting to factor in that Sarah is 30.
Ray is fucked. Sarah is 30. Got it.

Re: Big Brother 2012
I enjoyed it when she said she was 30 three times in a single conversation.
Seriously though, I don't know how she can complain about Ray when she went and did the same thing to Brad about a minute after the "incident" occured. Brad was yelling "This is tha streets" and Sarah ripped Brad's hat and glasses off in a very agressive fashion. Ray was being boisterous and probably getting into it too much, but he wasn't trying to hurt her.
It's like I give a shit or something... Next I'll be voting ffs.

Re: Big Brother 2012
I think Sarah would be hilarious in a room full of 30 years olds though.
Re: Big Brother 2012
Does anyone know how old Sarah is? I've heard she's 26 but I'm not sure I believe it.
Re: Big Brother 2012
Don't worry, I Googled it. She's 30 in case anyone's interested.
