Bargain Alert: 40" Pyrod LCD for $2k!

Post by Shaneus »

Just saw an ad for it at K-Mart... not sure how much their smaller ones are (given that there's no way a 40 inch can fit in my place!) but if you're looking for a newie, I hear the Pyrod's aren't too bad for a budget screen.

What about this one at BigW? What's the catch? (the 94cm one)

Well, I'm well and truely puzzled now.
Just got back from my local BigW, and the big lcd flatscreen they had on the shelf for $1897 was the old one. The one with 15ms refresh, no HDMI and a different contrast ratio.

So why have they got the word 'new' on the ad above?

The only possible theory I can come up with is that they are offloading the old models to Joe Sixpack that doesn't know any better???

Nothing. Just a generic name for average Joe. Isn't it from the Simpsons? I think Mr Burns says it.

Ok. I got to the bottom of it.
The explanation I got in one BigW was that they hadn't changed the display model, because the case looks identical  , but the TV's for sale do have the specs listed.

Crazy prices... I like the new AWA look though, it's pretty Samsung-esque by the look of it, but that's not a bad thing. I'd love a 94cm one in that style, it just looks so much nicer and there isn't speakers on the sides which always bloody annoys me as I lose a lot of desk space to speakers I never use.

Thankfully the 81cm isn't really much more than I paid for it. Though the 94cm is looking tempting... I think I need to move my 81cm to the comuter room and set set my gaming system up in there*

*sales pitch....
