Street Figher IV Unveiled Exclusive first ever screenshot and details for Capcom's franchise revival. By Matt Leone, 12/06/2007 Numbers are supposed to be impressive, right? Well, it's been 10 years, two hardware generations, and about seventeen thousand rumors since the last pure number Street Fighter came around. And today we have the first ever official details on Street Fighter IV.
We don't blame you if your eyes have already skipped down to the screenshot lower on the page (yes, that's from the game engine). Take your time. But we've got some information as well, so the rest of this is probably worth reading when you get a chance.
Though the screenshot doesn't answer this question outright, we can confirm that the game's graphics are polygonal but the gameplay is strictly 2D. There will be new moves, locations, and gameplay features, while the standard six button control scheme remains. Ryu and Ken return along with Chun-Li and Dhalsim, but beyond that the character roster is a mystery. And then there's the issue of what platform(s) the game will end up on, which at this point Capcom is keeping close to its chest (if you search 1UP's database, you'll find listings for arcade, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, but those are just guesses based on the graphical quality).
For the full reveal of the game -- including hands-on impressions, a rundown of the new gameplay system, and loads of details on new features -- look for the January 2008 issue of EGM in stores soon and hitting subscribers any day now. And then after you check the issue out, keep your eye on 1UP's Street Fighter IV hub page for ongoing coverage continuing into January.
Anyway, are you still reading this? Didn't you see the screenshot above? Click it and look at the larger version! All your friends are doing it...
Love the fact gameplay is still 2D, but I would like to see it switch to a 3D fly by if you finish someone off with a special move/super art! Taking a screenshot like Halo 3 would be a good feature to add as well!

Ryu himself looks spectacular! figures in the background a bit dissapointing and ruin the continuity in the art style but the actual scenery is done well.
Keen as hell to play this and I really hope some arcade machines get places randomly here and there. I could be wrong but an arcade SF4 revival is possible now more than any other time since the 'death' of arcades - what with all the 80s/90s nostalgia and all, If you have visited jay jays or dangerfield in the last year you'll know just what i mean.

Ryu's arm is pretty disappointing from a musculature perspective as it relates to that particular pose, and the elbow is wonky as fuck (looks like the joint in the arm of a fully-articulated figurine), but in an overall sense, that shot looks fucking sensational.

Yeah what the fuck is with his forearm. Anyway, is that Chun Li's stage or am I seeing things?
And if people don't like this: please go back to something like SF3 level sprites. HD suitable or not I loved the sprites in that game. (plus I get a woody watching chun li in III. I like the hand drawn anime styled attack effects in that)
Release SFIII on psp please!

hopefully...1up dont cock tease for too long and show us video of it in action on this weeks 1up show..if not then epic fail on their part..
Also I think its time to give ryu a bit of a beard like his picture in champion edition. I think ken should have sideburns and ANGRY eyebrows. Those were the two distinct characteristics of the face they need to bring back.
If they must bring akuma back, give him a "rival" to fight like he had in Alpha 2. (rather than have him do nothing)
Haggar! It's time to bring in some final fight characters. (I was so happy to see hugo in second impact and El Gado make an appearance in one of Rolento's win poses. Bring in El Gado and make him the new "Guile" of SF4 I reckon)
Maybe a new ninja character, and 1 new feral mutant similar to blanka with high agility who is hard to corner trap. (to give the grapplers a hard time)

with it being 3D models...they could let you customize your characters..like VF and tekken do..
But there is still something "cool" about the old hand drawn and animated sprites. Especially when you know the effects don't feel like they stick out like a sore thumb due to being drawn and animated the same as the character sprite.
(kinda like how when you watch today's anime and they use the cg poorly and it doesn't blend in with the hand drawn parts it just ends up looking bad - but I have faith in capcom to make it all blend together well)

It's going to be hard to get used to the physics with 3d models i reckon.
One of the things I liked about the 2d of SF was whenever you hit something you could clearly feel the "hitstun" as the animation would stop at impact for a brief moment to indicate visually where and when in the animation sequence you hit the person. I hope it doesn't feel too "loose" now that its gone 3d.
There should be a sense of weight to every landed hit like a fireball and maybe if the move is a desperation move with good damage, then the speed of the game slows down for dramatic effect for that brief moment and then speeds back up to normal again - this used to happen in SFII World Warrior whenever you did a fireball and the fireball hit the opponent and the game would slow down to show it. I liked that effect. I never liked how in the VS games like Capcom vs snk how your punches and kicks felt "weightless" so you overcompensated for it by mashing a lot more.

To be honest I'm not surprised that much by the look of ryu. I imagined it would be something like the characters of powerstone but upgraded for today.
I am guessing they are trying to capture the artstyle of Udon, and that is why some the muscle detail can look a bit odd. Seriously, it looks like Ryu has stepped out of the comics.

i think you mean Akiman..he looks like he is back and doing the design himself..
one of akimans [akira yasuda] works..you can see the his touch in the 3d model in the screen i posted..i would not be surprised if capcom invited him back since he has been apart of the whole thing since sf2..
