Why can't Lepo or Sly join my games.

I downloaded the latest firmware for the WGR614v6 last night, but haven’t installed it yet (will do so tonight). It seems weird that (as Lepo said) it only seems to affect interactions between certain people, otherwise everything is fine. I suspect that’s what happened to me at poker last night, and then I had the same problems with Candy Arse in Chromehounds as I did with Sly.
I’ll open everything I can and hang both the modem and the router out the window so absolutely nothing could be blocking it. Hopefully that will fix it, because otherwise I’m going to be very pissed off if I can work fine with most people but the occasional one screws me up for some reason.

I've upgraded my router firmware now. A couple things I wanted to ask about
NETGEAR - Using Xbox Live with NETGEAR Routers
My router and firmware should be Xbox LIVE certified. This page mentions opening ports 88 and 3074, plus some filters. Do I need to do this manually? If so, I could maybe use a little help (for example: I gather the start and end ports should be the same, but what server IP address do I put?).
In my UPnP settings there is an Advertisement Period and Advertisement Time To Live (In Hops). Would increasing the Time To Live do anything useful (it's currently 4).
Anything else I should check?

Well...I think...hope I may have solved some of my problems. I'm not sure, but I was able to chat with Candy and join some Texas Hold'Em games without any problems, so it looks good so far (touch wood).
I'm not entirely sure what it was, but here are some of the changes I made in case any of you guys want to try it:
Um...yeah, reading that back, I think Lestat was spot on. UPnP didn't work with a static IP. I didn't put my modem into bridge mode (a bit hard to reverse in my case) but I think I've done the next best thing - sent it all through to the wireless router.

- On my wireless router, added ports 88, 2074, and 3074 in the port forwarding.
- On the ADSL modem, set the NAT/NAPT configuration to NAT Only Enabled but forwarded to 10.0.0.1 (the wireless)
- On the ADSL modem, set the DMZ host IP address to 10.0.0.1

I have netgear router too, the rangemax one WPN824 and yeah my router does the exact same thing, if I use a static ip on the xbox, upnp stops working. One thing you can do to get a static like address working with dhcp isl, on my router it has an option to reserve ip's for particular mac/nics addresses. So evertime the xbox reqests for an ip via dhcp, it guarantees the xbox gets the same ip every time. So you get a static like address, but you're still using dhcp and upnp still works too.
If upnp is working 100% twit you shouldn't need to manually port forward stuff too. Also does your modem have a plain bridge mode? Using the dmz option achieves the same thing it's just a pure bridged mode would be nicer.

My modem has a plain bridge mode but that would mean I could no longer access it's setup through a browser, so I thought I'd leave that as a last resort (plus I'd have to setup PPPoEye 'n stuff). I saw the option to reserve IPs so I think I'll go ahead and do that, even though it shouldn't be changing for the moment.
I wasn't sure about the port forwarding stuff so I probably went overkill on that, but I did notice that in the UPnP options it now lists port 3074 as active in the port map table. I was also talking to a friend who is a network admin and he was trying to explain all the different ways you can go about achieving the same result, but I was getting a bit confused (plus I had too many beers).
He did say basically the same thing though - 2 routers getting each other's way, and the modem should either be switched to bridge mode or set to just forward most everything to the wireless router. Next time he's at my place I might switch it to bridge mode, but for the moment hopefully the changes I made will be sufficient....and if so then I better not touch it.

They did that because some of us had yanks on our lists and when they joined our friends only games you packed a sulk and came back with your Jihad tag.Cletus wrote:No there is no way without an invite. You're not retarded, that lobby/joining system is though. You used to be able to join friend only rooms uninvited until Halo2 came along. Then it seemed to change after that.

No there are some very shit modems out there that kind of work for intertron and that's about it.
Mine for example cracks it with peer to peer after half a day or so leaving the internet unusable and I have to reboot. Mine Also won't do fuck VPN as I found out the other night making me get off my arse and drive into work at 10:30 to reboot a server! Cunt of a thing.
