Yep. I still use my original Xbox for this alone as most stuff I download to watch still isn't HD so it handles it fine. It really annoys me that neither MS or Sony have matched the abilities of XBMC yet.
The 360 handles most things now, but I still get the times here and there where it doesn't support what I'm trying to play. Annoying.

yeah i have about 140 music clips on the computer, the 360 recognizes about 70 of them and only plays 10 of them
where xbmc recognizes and plays everyone
just recently got rid of the old xbox and using a beyonwiz hd set top box, networks to the computers and play all divx/xvid files

The only issue I've had with my 360 is it not playing mp4 files off my network, I've had to put them on a USB drive.
It's certainly better at playing and recognising file types than my PS3 is.

And both suck arse compared to XBMC.
Apparently you can run XBMC on a Mac Mini and that can actually run hi-def content. I should look into that.

Pain in the arse that I can't use Vista Media Center for certain files, far better interface than the 360 one.

If I were to burn avi files onto a dvdr, can the xbox 360 read it?
