Thanks for sharing that pic GC.
Would you believe that lots of people on macrossworld forums actually like the 1A hikaru even more than the 1S because 1A seems more suitable as a robotic head more? Don't ask why they think that. It's like "robot head turret can't have curvy surfaces because it makes the head look too humanoid, stupid" which is something I don't get considering the freaking space ship they all fly into is essentially a giant transforming humanoid ship with two legs a head and two arms which makes that argument have no weight.
1S looks the most advanced and gives the appearance of a knight. Seeing as hikaru is the hero slaying the giants, you'd want the best robot to look the slickest not the most ugly and simple. Same idea in gundam: In the world of mass produced giant robots those are the "Ferraris" of the robot world and they should stand out more.
Those silly fanboys..
Oh and here's something I forgot to update on:
Macross Frontier transformable VF-25 from bandai:
This is the toy not the model so be careful in not getting those two confused: model looks much better than the toy but you have to build it. (much cheaper though)
Both are transformable.
Ozuma Alto I don't own these but plan on getting some one day.
I want to save some money for the yamato 1/60 VF-11. (big macross plus fan)
The verdict is if bandai put their A game on macross as they do the gundam things they do, then they could have made the toy look as good as the model in battroid mode. Great first attempt however.
Yamato VF-11B prototype pics from robotjapan:
http://robotjapan.proboards12.com/index" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... read=13345
..coolest cannon fodder of all.. No reactive armor add on was seen for it in macross plus unfortunately, so that means yamato can only release the FAST pack VF-11 and not the one in macross 7 where it could wear the upgrade just like the GBP armor for the vf-1.

Yeah not a fan of the 1A head. Thus why I have posed the Hikky 1A in Gerwalk mode.
I was going to get a Bandai 1/60 VF25 or two but they just look so shit and cost so much more than the Yamato 1/60 VF-1 it is hard to justify. They should be cheaper FFS.
In the end I got one of the Bandai VF100's VF25's (as seen hiding between the two 25th anniversary valks) which has a very similar sculpt to the 1/60 but for a much more reasonable price.
It's a partsformer though but if you are after a playable VF25 without breaking your bank this isn't a bad option, plus they are supposedly doing other obscure valks down the line so I am thinking I will pick up more as time goes on... BOMBAAA!!
Oh and while I am on a role.. The VF25 model you speak of. Does indeed look good. Do you have any idea how hard it is to put together? Is it clip together? Pre painted etc etc? I'm thinking I might grab a couple and build them for static display.

Just like gundam: snap fit. No glue or anything like that needed. Any kid could assemble them.
Gundam models are really more close to toys that you assemble quickly than something to challenge you. This is like those.
1/72 line of model kits
http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN955525" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Alto without FAST Pack
http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN958129" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Super version with FAST Pack
http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN958130" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Stand-alone FAST pack.
...check under "related items" to see the other characters valk types...
Great for display. Fully transformable. Cheaper and better looking than the toy imo. You can paint if you want but they do come in molded in coloured plastic for those who are too lazy and just want to apply stickers or decals and can't be fucked messing with paints.

Well I can report back that the 1/72 Frontier Model kits are in fact ace!! Even a n00b like me was able to put them together.. Now I need the others
I have built Ozma and Alto and they will be set in battroid and fighter pose forever more.
Can haz closeup of Alto with custom purple tinted canopy (apparently getting translusent purple to work is a bitch so I won that).
And to avoid going out and wasting $695 on a pimping display cabinet for all my stuff I re arranged my shelves today.

Told you the models were good. As a fan of toys though, I just wish bandai had used that 1/72 sculpt for the toy as well instead of the one they gave us.
I'd like to see more valks from other series redone in 1/72 now to match up with these.

Whoa have you seen this?:
http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN958129" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I haven't hung around the macrossworld boards for a while so I have missed months of news and just noticed the super pack version is now out.
If you get these let me know what they are like.
And take lots of pics with the armor on in all modes.

Actually GC you should have just waited and bought the super so you get the valk with the super pack instead of buying the standalone.
Too late now . Screw you bandai for not just having the super messiah earlier instead of tempting us to get the stand alone first.
A cheap alternative is to just get the super parts seperate if you bought the naked valk already:
http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN958130" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
..
Now to await the 'tank valk' with the heavy armour pack. I think Ozuma has the best-looking head unit type imo. Plus I have always been a fan of the grey scheme. The next would then be the sniper valk that the geeky looking kid uses:
http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN958497" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and then alto... (not a big fan of ole squashed hamburger head)
and lucky last, mr "penis for head":
http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN958099" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Edit: I always have this habit of calling these things "valkyries" when they are supposed to be called "messiahs". (sounds like they are trying to mimmick "gundam savior". Only the vf-1 from the original is the actual "valkyrie".

If you do have that much money just lying around for no reason wanting to be wasted: this would be a bloody great present to yourself:And to avoid going out and wasting $695 on a pimping display cabinet for all my stuff I re arranged my shelves today.

These are the kind of toys I wish were around when I was still a little kid. Fuck actually trying to make them yourself out of lego and guess how they were supposed to transform by looking at the crappy animation of the toon. Why didn't some big toy company exist to make these available as toys back then or at least clone the idea?
If anyone here already has the robotech mpc, impressions would be nice. I'm curious to know what differences there are between the import mospeada ones and the robotech ones.

Shows some good comparison pics with the other companies mospeada toys. Beagle looks to be the best but you get hit hard in the price. I think this is going to be limited in number simply because mospeada wasn't all that popular in japan so the market isn't that huge for this. If you are big on accurate transformations and getting as much detail as you can find from a ride armor toy, this is the toy for you. No quality control issues as far as I've heard. (which we shouldn't expect at these prices)

Yeah I've seen the Supers. I actually opted for the stand alones. I love the sleekness of these 1/72's so wanted them left basic. I reckon I will wait for a super Michael (the blue one) and then double up on the Ozma (grey) with full blast armour.
I've been trying to order myself a 1/60 VF-11B from overdrive but their account system is broken ATM possibly a good thing because then I would need a YF-21 as well.
I have no interest in collecting mospedia. I already have enough vices as it is.

If you like sleekness I highly recommend the SV-51 from macross zero. I see in the pics you already have the vf-0.
This thing is one of the best-looking and coolest fighter sculpts yamato have done so far in my opinion. (yf-21 is ok too but suffers in battroid mode a little)
And no quality problems on early nora releases AFAIK.
I like this a lot better than the vf-0 since I just see that as Shoji Kawamori's redo of the vf-1 with rounder and less boxy surfaces. (a little boring next to the bad guy's pointy 'goth spikes' with 'evil pope' hooded mecha ....imo )

But seriously dude:
check out the details...
even if you are not a fan that's some great effort they put into the mechanical side of the powered suit. This is toy of the year. I reckon they should do the suits from bubblegum crisis next. I want a detailed motoslave.

You know what would be really good is if bandai made "perfect grade" kits of the macross valks. I think 1/60 would be just right for those who have limited space but want a bit more fine details like the cockpit, pilot, decals etc to stick out a bit more. The 1/60 scale would put them into scale with the yamato toys so they could be posed together. Shame they had to go 1/72. Scrap the 1/60 toys, and just go 1/60 kits.

more beagle goodness for those of you waiting for Rook/Houquette character to be released:

I think I will get the blonde chick with the anti-mecha missile launcher, the effeminate guy who dressed up like a girl and sang songs (I like that melee weapon he has which he can use to stab the inbit in the eyeball with lol) and probably Stick for the rifle he uses. Sorry Ray. Nothing personal buddy. You are too similar to stick.

He's technically a mecha just with an AI consciousness pilot controlling him, so it makes sense in a mech thread.I didnt know where else to put this, you mecha/Macross collecting noobs can behold the glory of the Sideshow Premium Format Arn which arrives at my house on Wednesday!!!!
Funny thing in macross frontier is that humans undergo the cyborgisation process if they want to pilot the fastest variable fighters. I suppose the genetically strong zentradi body isn't enough to withstand the forces of yf-21 when limiter is taken off. In the future the VF are even faster than that. I reckon that if they go even further into the future in macross timeline say in another show, the pilots will be completely replaced by hybrids.
So maybe an idea for these new terminator movies that are coming out is humans having to grudgingly become like "ghost in the shell" style cyborg-human hybrids to fight and adapt? (brain and spinal cord ripped from body with armored outside - the reverse of terminators which were originally just designed to be infiltrators to fool us until they could get close. Notice how they've moved away from this now in later movies and they don't bother to diguise?) If humans had cyborg bodies the t-1000 "disguise and stab" assasin technique would be pretty useless.

Funny you should mention the YF-21 Gamehed.
My Krudd provided Japan stimulus (lets face it they need the money more than us) went to the following items.
YF-21
SV-51 (Nora)
VF-11B
This week I get my VF-1S max + strike parts, YF-21 and SV-51
Bruce if Rerr is going to strip down to his pelt and cosplay as Chewy I'm not coming to see your stand.

ARNO GET!!!! He just arrived! Incredi-shipping from California!!! (like 5 days? Wasn't cheap but shit!).
This is the greatest sculpt of Arno's face I have seen in any statue, waaaaayy better than the 12" Sideshow T800 I got in '07. stands about 20" on his stand, Cyberdyne's tiles are replicated on his stand also. Clothes are imitation leather, little greandes pop out of the bandolier, oh....just ....genius.
Where is my camera I need to upload pics!!

You'll love the sv-51. Is it Ivanov or Nora?
I think the appeal of that particular VF is that it's probably the largest fighter in plane mode ever released by yamato so far and looks so sleek even with the boosters attached to it. The little rods inside the wings to keep them straight is a great idea.
YF-21 is also great in fighter mode. The bot mode however does suffer compared to lineart, but considering the anime magic in the drawings (really long legs and squashed upper body) I suppose it can't be helped. (actually it kinda can, now that I remember pics of this other thing I saw which looks better than it - it managed to have proper-proportioned feet)
Yamato seems to care about that mode more than bot mode which is good if you like the fighter modes. (the exception being the 1/60 v2 releases)
I'm deciding if I really should get Mospeada Rand/Rey robotech masterpiece. I've noticed they sold out of all 3000 of scott on Robotech.com and don't want to have to be forced to get him on import (more expensive) if I change my mind later.
It's true the makers of these deserve the money. Poor lil bastards. Shame that all the yamato macross stuff has to be imported though. I'm sure if yamato and Harmony Gold could work out a deal to release them outside japan, we could get them cheaper. Toynami wouldn't like that.
The stuff from Bandai/tamashi or whatever they are called is good news for vintage items but what about the things from yamato? Who wouldn't want a set of 1/60 destroids at cheap price, reboxed with robotech MPC packaging?
I think the appeal of that particular VF is that it's probably the largest fighter in plane mode ever released by yamato so far and looks so sleek even with the boosters attached to it. The little rods inside the wings to keep them straight is a great idea.
YF-21 is also great in fighter mode. The bot mode however does suffer compared to lineart, but considering the anime magic in the drawings (really long legs and squashed upper body) I suppose it can't be helped. (actually it kinda can, now that I remember pics of this other thing I saw which looks better than it - it managed to have proper-proportioned feet)
