Turrican 2
Too bad they never got to make that 3d turrican game
yuzo koshiro megadrive music here:
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... zo+koshiro
Streets of Rage and super shinobi had awesome music.
Street Fighter EX plus Alpha (sakura's theme):
this reminds me of a family sitcom from the 80s street fighter alpha 2 gold (cammy theme - she was the secret character in this) thrash metal!
Haggars theme from saturdaynight slam masters: someone at capcom must like rock and metal music.
Castlevania IV on the SNES simon's theme sounds heroic and epic but creepy and dangerous at the same time, "don't stand on that crumbling platform too long"
This one has a very "I'm coming to beat yo ass, so watch out" feel to it More creepy music from Castlevania IV on SNES:
finallly some of my fave "action movie" music from contra III before the days of cd:

Act Raiser SNES
Raiden II various stage music
This has nostalgia value mainly since it was one of my fave arcade games. So hard but you knew it was your own fault for getting too greedy. I like the tunes from stage 1 and 2 because it doesn't make the ship seem heroic. You are only trying to survive long enough to unleash your bombs on the boss if you can get that far. The explosions and sounds effects are also very good. The core would blow up and a nice meaty explosion would appear followed by secondary explosion and damage to the ground where you dropped bombs. (poor little farmers and cows who are just trying to run away lol)
Doom scary music that makes you nervous over sounds you can hear of things hanging around the corner which you can't quite get to yet. I never ran in this game unless a secret required it. Too many fucking traps. Serious Sam has surpassed doom as the best arcadey FPS genre now imo. I would rather mess around in the open spaces with medium and long range weapons rather than creep into tiny holes and have no space to run to.
EDIT: the last one sounds a lot like something you'd hear from a 90s capcom walk along beat em up or a megaman x game.

Hahah Twizted, as soon asI opened this thread I thought of Commando (Rob Hubbard is a legend) but since that's now been posted I'm posting three of my favs from him. The first was known for (at the time) it's amazing digitised sound from 4 channels. I think this was one of his las games before EA snatched him up to work in the US and he left UK.
And another fav of mine, the sequel to Crazy Comets, Mega Apocalypse. Can't find a Youtube, but there is a live stream here, just click 'Listen' in the info box.
And last but not least the amazing Thrust. (Well I think so!) There is also a very cool mp3 Metal version.
And here is my fav Last Ninja tune (Not Rob Hubbard, but Ben Daglish I think), something that I reckon would sound cool redone as a metal instrumental.

strider 1 on amiga
superior to the megadrive and arcade music imo.
sounds really crap on MD.
..and there goes the metal version.. too loud. Strider is quiet and sneaky.
Another Actraiser stage 1 music but this one is like a sad version of it :p Not as intense as the snes version. You are going around fighting and stuff so it sounds wrong.
more yuzo koshiro goodness this time from Etrian odyssey:

That last one was awesome.
When they decided to make a castlevania fighter they really should have went the guilty gear x route imo.
Think of all the different monsters in the castle they could have as playable characters. They could have werewolves, succubi, axe armor, death, undead soldiers etc and it would be a bit like konami's answer to darkstalkers. You could tag in familiars to help and the super meter when filled would allow you to unleash the screen-filling magic spells.
On the good guys team they could have other vampire killers in the game not related to belmonts and who use different weapons and attacks (a thief use uses knives, a close kombat guy with gauntlet, melee guy sword and shield, and a big guy who uses blunt crushing weapons with a few pure mage characters for long range fights etc)
tsk tsk shoulda went 2d konami!
