I ordered a Phenom II 945 + 1TB from AusPC Market yesterday. Just in time for a hard drive to start playing silly buggers on me during a backup procedure. I'm being shafted on the hard drive price ($179 for a WD10EADS), but I can't argue with free next-day delivery and no fucking about with calling people to see what's in stock (MSY, I'm looking at you!).
I'll post pics of my rig when it's all installed.
The next thing I'm getting is one of these babies:
A single connector for all those cables? yes please! How come that shit's not standard, ffs?

I'm an idiot. I forgot to plug the heatsink fan in when I put the old CPU back in. I thought it was just the PSU being overtaxed by the new drive I put in there, when it was just the CPU getting a bit toasty...

OK, so things I've learned;
- I probably didn't need a new PSU (but at least the new one is quieter)
- I can't remove either of the IDE drives because Windows installed the bootloader to the 160GB one, and WinXP is installed to the 80GB one
- Windows 7 has a very exciting "your hard drive is about to die!!!" error message
- Putting a Phenom II CPU into my motherboard opens up a bucketload of new BIOS options. None of which I have any idea about
- I can't do any fancy behind-the-tray cable routing in my case
- Whoever said quad-core CPUs are a waste of money is a fool

Will post up what mine looks like tonight. Went back into the BIOS lastnight and was able to drop my Vcore down a fairbit (to 1.28 I think), instantly slashing temps. Will play around tonight and see if I can push it back up to 4GHz.
The 4890 Vaopr-X has made a pretty big difference in system temps though. The 4870 that was in there ran quite hot and heated everything else with it.
Anyone want to buy all my spare parts? All you need is monitor, DVD Drive, tower and KB&M and you're off to go.

Unfnk..checkout mine one and youll see how i used the precut holes to route the cables..
old pic ive almost routed all the cables behind the case now
it just takes time and cable ties... plus having a modular psu comes in REAL handy..though you can most def improve the airflow by putting in some cable management time..and thus drop temps
looking forward to your pics ag0nny..
also keep dropping the vcore of the cpu slightly and stress testing...when you notice that it starts to crash just up the vcore..you will find the best vcore setting for the cpu
also if you still have the box for the cpu post the batch number it will be on the side sticker...its a good idea to google it and see what other peoples results were that have the same batch number

Oh, and to anyone who thinks that more than 4GB RAM is a waste... I ran a full chkdsk on my failing 200GB drive, and it used 5GB all to itself, and got the job done in a fraction of the time that it's taken to do that on smaller drives. Booyah.

Pariah, my batch number is: 3910A479. Can't find anything about it though....
Pics of my system below:
The Noctua NH-U12P in motion.
If cables were longer it'd be a bit more tidy.
My new Sapphire 4890 Vapor-X and my 150 WD Velociraptor to the right.
ANTEC 850W Sigmature Series PSU, ANTEC Tri-Cool fan in the middle and 2 HDDs hiding at the front.
Close up of the 4890 Vapor-X, you can also see Sapphire's 'Black Diamond Chokes'.
As pretty as it looks, I'm glad I don't have a Window on my tower.
One last look....

I ordered the soundcard last night. It turns out that you can order it straight from Auzentech's website and get a fairly hefty discount if you get the I/O Drive bundled with it - about $30 more than getting it locally. Sorry local economy, but I can't argue with that price!

Ugh. I need a different fan for my heatsink. I rarely put the CPU under much pressure, but when I do, it's hideously loud. Coming from inside this case, that must mean it's a fucking loud fan in the first place.
I have a 120mm fan lying around, and I seem to remember that you could get 120->80mm adapter/funnel things... but I can't find any.
Anyone know where to get one?
