Oh I didn't know what was confirmed. Ewww. The DS touch screen feels so stone age after using an iPhone/pad/droid/whatever. Sigh... Nintendo.

It's a Nintendo console. I guess it has to be out of date at launch in some way.

I'm not letting this go. This is retarded. I can shoot a video in the street, geotag it and immediately publish it worldwide. I can take a photo of a book and have Amazon tell me the cost in just a few seconds. I can write for weeks at a time exclusive with my finger. And here is Nintendo buying up the sort of screens you only find in old office photocopiers. Where is my Apple iBakelite? Fucking turtlenecks.

Yeah, I saw a picture of it in my Google Reader feed with a DS-type stylus being used. I can't find it now though

Vzzzbx: Resistive tech has a couple of advantages over capacitive, namely that it's pressure sensitive. I can't think of any others at the moment though, but that's the big one.

There's still time for Nintendo to fix the issues here though. That screen could be 5" (as opposed to 6.2") and still be great for gaming on. They could definitely change the screen tech to capacitive too, but I imagine Nintendo are trying to keep the costs (for them) to a minimum. I doubt they'll make either of those changes though...

I wonder what disc format they will be using?

OK, a headphone jack on the controller is a good idea. Didn't the 3D0 do this though?

The DS was a joke right out of the gate by not having an analogue stick. The company goes and invents Super Mario 64, invents 3D platforming (shut up pep), invents the fucking analogue stick (shut up megaman) and then releases a handheld console with 3D capability and a fucking D pad. A fucking D pad. Then like six months later they go "oh we're sorry, we're idiots, here, have this thing that you strap onto your thumb and scrape around the resistive touchscreen like an analogue stick" that turned out to be nothing like an analogue stick. Then fucking 80 years later capacitive touchscreens rule the universe and what does Nintendo do? Release a portable with an analogue stick and a resistive touchscreen. Then it announces a proper HD console 10 years after everyone is sick of HD and tacks a god damned resistive touchscreen onto the stupidest controller I have ever seen. Pressure sensitive my arse. Reggie Fils-Aimé, Reggie Kills-Gamé morelike. Give Edward James Olmos his skin texture back and make a proper fucking console, you fucking egg.

Nintendo have made more than enough money from the Wii and DS for them to take a bigger financial risk with the hardware for the WiiU (fuck I hope it gets a new name)... and it looks like they haven't. They seem to be using a binary-compatible CPU/GPU combo, which, let's face it, wouldn't cost more than a couple of dollars to push out 1080p60 content these days.

Youre mental. :loco:

DS is one of the best pure gaming systems in history. It had the thumbstrap available from day 1. It's 100 times the gaming system an ipad/iphone will ever be.

No analogue stick was easily the worst thing about the DS. It was stupid not to include one. A good example of this is Phantasy Star Zero on DS, which is a pain to control, was the worst aspect of the game. Well if played on the 3DS the analogue stick can be used and oh man SO MUCH BETTER.

Amazing how things change. People in this thread who I would expect to be a bit more level-headed are writing this off, meanwhile I am absolutely all over this piece of kit at this stage.

That Zelda video, if Nintendo can replicate that sort of stuff for the actual game....Nintendo take my money!!!!!!

That Zelda demo does look good. It comes to all I really care about really - finally getting Nintendo games in HD. Now SD gaming can finally die.

It's a prerendered video, seriously who gives a shit?

If Sony had had something like that, Pat would be all over it and ranting about how shit Sony is. Fuck off.

I dunno, its kind of like saying Shenmue always looked as good as the Passport disc where you could actively change the light source. It's a lot different when the environment doesn't consist of an empty room and pre-programmed animations.

Sculli is correct. The system is apparently capable of some very nice effects as evidenced by the bird/cherry blossom/koi demo. And this zelda vid. It is using 'real time' assets but has presumably pre-baked lighting effects as a proof of concept vid. Developers have already stated its more powerful than ps3/360 - by how much is another issue - but the end result is still going to be a nice crisp image.
