So far I've read;

Justice League 1 - didn't mind, but definitely did not love it
Detective Comics 1 - did not like
Action Comics 1 - liked
Justice League International 1 - did not like
Stormwatch 1 - liked
Animal Man 1 - did not like
Men of War 1 - did not like

That's it, so far. Green Lantern and Grifter are the ones I'm looking forward to the most.

Just finished Grifter. Not bad. The art was good, too.

One thing I'm finding with almost all of these 52 stories so far is that the dialogue is often really bad. Like, poorly conceived. Words and phrases that just sound pathetic, even for a comic book.

Onto Green Lantern... shall report back!

Quick question, does all of it feel like a reboot to you?

Just finished Green Lantern now... I thought 52 was meant to be a jumping-on point? I don't understand half of what's going on. It sounds like it's the next issue in a long-running story. I know a lot of shit went down in the GL 'verse over the past year or so, but I shouldn't need to know any of that to get on here, I thought. I guess not!

Either way, I'm enjoying it.

Are you asking because it's meant to be one but it doesn't feel like one to you? I've been out of the comics loop for a long time, so I don't know what the most recent stories were, etc.

Some of them are obviously a reboot; Justice League, Detective Comics, Action Comic, Grifter... but Green Lantern feels like a new arc in whatever the last story was.

From what I understand the flashpoint storyline combines the old timeline with an alternate. Some stuff got rebooted and some stuff continues old stories but with new uniforms.

It gets confusing because some are re-booted, Batman/Supes but then the Green Lantern isn't and keeps all the Blackest Night etc story lines.

Comics!

Post by BruceCamblzChin »

I don't mind Supes' new look. Have read Action comics and Justice league 1, Lee's art looks the same as always, it's cool though. I can understand why they are trying it, older fans are switching off or buying trades etc. Trying to get the younguns into cahmics is cool and it's not like Supes' uniforms hasn't changed before.

I quite liked Action comics 1 actually.

Reading Secret Wars ATM though, it's gold.

JLA sale on comixology. JLA year 1 at 99c an issue. If you haven't read it I highly recommend it. Aquaman is awesome.

The 52 Review

I've read through all the number ones and I though i would post my thoughts on this supposed reboot. Overall I'm not too happy, too many of the lines continue storylines or hope you have been a previous long time reader. It was said to be a jumping point for new readers but I think many people would just get lost. Anything that is a complete reboot is just really refreshing. The other problem I am having is that not all comics are set in the same timeline, so some are right at the start, some are in the past and some just assume you've been reading the new universe for years... fail.

Onto the individual series.

Action Comics:

It's a young Superman with limited powers, no suit and no idea who he is. A major reboot for one of DC's big guns and it really pays off. Very enjoyable and I will keep reading.

All Star Western:

Jonah Hex, so if you like him then awesome... but I don't know the character and I am kind of plopped down in the middle of his adventures. It seems like it could have potential but more back story is required for me to fully appreciate the character.

Animal Man:

Good old zany Buddy is back... no reboot it just picks up where it was last left off. Only for dedicated fans of Animal Man, because that comic goes weird from page 1.

Aquaman:

Partial reboot, it's set in the first 5 years of the new U, but it seems like knowledge of characters is required. I'll keep my eye on it.

Batgirl:

I'm not understanding the batverse. Parts feel rebooted but other things are just contiuing storylines. It's nice to see Babs back, but it seems the events of killing joke have occured so I have no idea why she can walk

Batman The Dark Knight:

There are too many batman comics and too many storylines to follow...

Batman:

This was one of the more engaging Batman comics but I was still confused.

Batman and Robin:

Damian is a dick.

Batwing:

An African Batman? I think I missed something somewhere.

Batwoman:

Not a reboot, but there are lesbains involved... maybe requires more reading.

Birds of Prey:

It feels kind of rebootish, Dinah forming The Birds... as long as it stays away from The Bat U it could do okayish.

Blackhawks:

Reboot, boring as shit.

Blue Beetle:

Reboot, really great characters. I'll stick with it for awhile.

Captain Atom:

Not a reboot, and CA looks even more like Dr. Manhattan. Interestingstory though... I'm curious enoughto read another issue.

Catwoman:

Complete fanfic. Only read if you've wanked over the idea of Batman and Catwoman doing it. Do not read in public.

DC Universe Presents:

I think this is some kind of one shot series, first ish with Deaman was iteresting and I'd like to read more, but I think ish 2 is... Batman, beause they don't have enough batman comics...

Deathstroke:

Deathstroke kills a fuckload of people while looking cool. It could be fun.

Demon Knights:

Holy crap this was awesome fun. Set in the middle ages, Etrigan being awesome. It's just over the top fun and stays away from the main dcu.

Detective Comics:

Kinda sorta reboot...

Joker dies

I like Jim's red hair.

Frankenstein Agent of S.H.A.D.E.:

It's a reboot of a character that appeared in Flashpoint. I enjoyed it and will read more. Although rebooted Vampire dude is not as awesme as flashpoint version.

Green Lantern:

Not a reboot I was lost.

Green Lanter New Guardians:

Not a reboot but a really interesting storyline. Kyle is getting rings from the entire speftrum... makes me woder what Larfleeze will do.

Green lantern Corps:

More non rebooting...

Green Arrow:

Excellent reboot of Oliver queen, I'm going to keep reading this one.

Grifter:

Excellent engaging story. Nice start for the character, will keep readig.

Hawk and Dove:

Continuation from Brightest Day, why do they let Rob Liefeld near a pencil :(

I, Vampire:

Too out there for me, I lost interest part way through it.

Justice League:

Cool opener for DC, really fun and it will be interesting to see where they take it. Will it e as good as JLA Year1 though?

Justice League International:

Reboot to the JLI, I didn't mind it, but i think that's because I like Booster Gold and Rocket Red.

Justice League Dark:

How did constantine get mixed up in this awful mess... :( Also, I hate the changing man

Legion Lost:

The events of Flashpoint have stranded some of The Legion. It could be okay...

Legio of Super Heroes:

No reboot they were outside of Flashpoint, they show a little concern for the lost legioneers... that may not be a word.

Men of War:

Reboot of Sergeant Rock, bringing him into current times. I didn't mind it, but I guess you have to like combat and war comics.

Mister Terrific:

Reboot of Mr. T making him even blacker. It was enjoyable.

Nightwing:

More Batman related hijinx, not a reboot.

OMAC:

I'm glad they kept the omacs around. I liked what I read and will continue it for a bit.

Red Lanterns:

More GL non rebooting. Although DexStarr is in it.

Red Hood and the Outlaws:

So this got a whole bunch of women upset... Kori wears little clothing and sleeps with both Jason and Roy. It's a comic for teenaged boys.

Resurrection Man:

I guess it's a reboot... It was an interesting read. I'll try a little more.

Savage Hawkman:

Not a reboot but now his suit is part of him.

Static Shock:

Missed opportunity, this should have been a reboot.

Stormwatch:

Yep... I was lost.

Suicide Squad:

Balls to the wall over the top action. It's a reboot, and it works. Also fuck everyone, I like Harley's new outfit. It suits the attitude of the comic.

Superboy:

Excellent reboot, my only issue is that it ties in to Teen Titans straight away

Supergirl:

Excellent reboot, nice to see them going in a different direction with the Super family.

Superman:

It feels like a tgv drama... I should be watching this on the CW. Pretty dull in comparison to the other 3 Super comics.

Swampthing:

Continues on from Brightest Day which is impossible because Green Arrow has been reboote. Good work continuity team...

Teen Titans:

Yay a reboot! Ties into Superboy in the first ish though... crossovers already??

The Flash:

Not a reboot... same old same old...

The Fury of Firestorm:

Just excellent. Such a great reboot of the character.

Voodoo:

I didn't like it.

Wonder Woman:

It's a reboot but I really wasn't engaged.

I've been typing for a bit using my tablet... so scrolling back up is a bitch... I guess I said it beforebut it feels like a missed opportunity. They should have rebooted everything. Combining timelines was a shit idea.

I'd give the reboot a 6 out of 10 and ask them to read Crisis on Infinte Earths.

DC needs a previously page. I read a lot of comics and with a month between comics and 20+ comics read between issues I often forget what is happening.

That's happening in April.

I really liked OMAC it was a lot of fun. Loved how it was drawn to emulate Jack Kirby's art.

Also bummed about Mr Terrific. It was reminding me of Mr Fantastic, but as a one man show...

I hope the Earth 2 series doesn't just drag all the old shit back into it... I was interested as to what they were doing with Karen/powergirl in Mr. Terrific. Oh well...

In other news, really looking forward to BKV's Saga... Some nice preview pages here; http://www.geeksofdoom.com/2012/03/12/c ... ns-saga-1/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not sure when it'll show up on Comixology though... (yes, I may actually pay for it)

His work on Y The Last Man was incredible, and Fiona Staples' art on Saga looks equally sexual. Totally expecting big things from this one.

Just finished reading the first issue of Saga (which I even bought legally), and I dunno... there's some interesting world-building here, but I'm not 100 percent sold overall. The art is fantastic and the dialogue is great too, but yes... we shall see how it goes.

Certainly not disappointed, but perhaps not as blown away as I was by Y - but then it's hard to not be blown away by a concept like that.

What are some great comic covers? I have win7 at work and am nerding it up. I currently have Action Comics 1, Detective Comics 27, Man Of Steel 1, The Watchmen collection cover, Crisis on Infinite Earths 1, Death of Captain Marvel, New Ultimate Spider-man 1, Kingdom Come collection cover, The Killing Joke. Most of that stuff are the comicsthat have influenced me the most, but would like some really cool covers too. Just stand out artwork.
