Pinball thread including shinies and balls and stuff

Post by Cardsy »

Yes.

Carrying 4 memory cards in my pocket is easier than carrying 4 pinball machines (in addition to the one that is already there in my pocket).

Pinball on iOS...
this is a perfect example of why a touchscreen only interface is terrible for gaming. There is nothing simpler than pinball, its 2 fucking buttons. Yet tell me it is anywhere near as good or responsive without buttons and you're crazy.

iOS could really benefit from a second volume control on the right side of the phone, so u at least have 2 buttons on left and 2 on the right. It could turn iOS games that are barely competent into the real deal.

I just tried Zen pinball on the iPad 2 and it didn't seem that different (responsiveness wise) than Pinball FX2 on XBLA. You touch either side of the screen to trigger the flippers. It happens instantly.

I don't see what your problem is.

Go ahead, tell me I'm crazy.

*sigh* if only you were. Get ready for gameHED style, nonsensical rant.

I wont argue, 'cuz there is no objective reasoning I can possibly provide. But playing pinbal fx(especially with my arcade stick) is like a completely different and superior playing experience to any iOS pinball I've played. No matter how responsive, imaginary buttons hardly compare.

It'd be so easy to just have a button on either side of the device that apps can utilize. Its nonsense daydreaming, but if it were part of the default setup, virtually every port on the thing would be improved dramatically.

Here is a hypothetical. If given a DS game that is text heavy and you can scroll through it by either tapping A or touching the screen with the stylus...which do you choose?

I know without question I find tapping away at the touchscreen in such a situation TEDIOUS AS FUCK.

But that is just me. :)

55+ hours. That doesn't include the 9 pre PFX2 tables.
The highest by far is 9+ hours on Rome. I went on a bender on that table when PFX2 frst came out.

Pinball Arcade is out. 99c and it's universal.

HOWEVER

It uses Facebook integration (no GameCenter), and there's IAP - $9.49 for three tables

Yup. Admittedly, the price is worth it for Arabian Nights, but the pricing for the other tables is all over the shop. One's $2, another's $3 and the final one is $5.50 or something? Very weird. I guess if you only buy tables you like then it won't be that expensive... but if the premium tables are ~$5, then it could wind up costing the same as the full console versions of Williams or Gottlieb Classics. Unless they find a way of transferring purchases between devices. But that'll never happen.

Yeah I will admit it's very good. Game Center support is coming by April so it shouldn't be long for this to be sorted.

According to the GAF OT, pricing varies depending on licensing. Ergo, Ripley's costs a fortune in comparison to Black Hole and ToM, despite the fact that it's a heap of shit to play... it's a recent Stern game and it has a license nobody could possibly be interested in

I've had a poke around the directory structure as well, and from what I can tell we have Harley Davidson (another shit Stern pin), Bride of Pinbot, Gorgar and Taxi on it's way. No idea when, just saw the config files there. Love Taxi on Williams Classics, a portable version will be the shit.

It's on it's way to consoles next month with DLC downloads. They are the same developers who made Williams Pinball last year. If Adams family pinball is future DLC I will shit myself

Choice. I just bought Williams Collection last week for $9, can't get enough of the Taxi table.

It's definitely one of my favourites in the Williams collection. But I have a lot of tables I like in that one... particularly the older non-DMD ones like Firepower and Black Knight.

I think I read it'd be 800msp for four tables (I guess, the same four that are already on iOS?) and I think Medieval Madness will be out at the same time as DLC.

Same guys, but far more improved that WPC. But no need to stress because it's been delayed for a fucking weak. To echo the general vibe on GAF, they really need to work on their PR. It seems like if you're not following them intently on Facebook, the game might as well not exist.

It's SO good. But there's a strange difference in the performance and visuals on the tables. ToM and Black Hole use different lighting (and maybe a different engine?) to Ripley's and TotAN and seem to run vastly smoother, not to mention look shitloads better.

But the 4-pack default of the game has vindicated my stance that Stern tables are shit, which is why I didn't buy Ripley's on iOS. Boring fucking game with a cluttered upper playfield and no real idea of what you're doing at any stage. Also, far too easy.

BTW MM and Bride of Pin-bot are apparently up on Android and (I guess) not far away (ie. today?) on iOS. Hanging for MM again. Good on WPC, but should be even better with the engine improvements.

So is this the new standard for pinball on XBL? More than FX2?

I've only played the trial version of Pinball Arcade, and I prefer FX2. I wouldn't even try to argue that FX2 is 'better' though. I think it's one of these situations were personal preference is the winner.

Yeah, I suppose it depends on whether you prefer pinball tables designed by people with decades of experience or ones by some computer programmers.

Or playing on a real pinball machine in an arcade or playing some computer physics based shiny ball sim on a gaming device.
