Is that a fully functioning AES?

If it is I will more than likely buy this whole thing. If not...no go.

*edit*

Misread Pilons answer but I'd say it's still an AES console. The slot looks smaller than the handlheld so may still fit all NG cartridges.

From how it reads, the Handheld comes withb the pre installed games + has an expandable card slot.

Also plugs into the NG-X to play on the Telly. If the NG-X didn't play cartridges then why bother? They would've been better off just releasing a TV Out cable for the portable.

I bet it's such a limited run that it'll cost at least four-hundo to get it here.

Looks cool.

SNK Playmore should just do this:

team up with capcom and they both make a dedicated handheld game system where you can download the roms to play all the old arcade games from an online server and they add new content over time.

Design the game system to have 6 buttons, and then every few years release new editions of the fighting games with added characters. (much like how mugen works where you can add new sprites and stuff, but this would be the official version of that where you get new characters added gradually over time)

They could make their own capcom vs snk series exclusive to the handheld. But the handheld would play all the older games too.

When new games are made (KOF 14) they can sell you newer editions of the handheld that can handle better and bigger sprites and make money selling you upgraded versions of the handheld.

One of the advantages of handhelds is they are perfect for arcadey games of the past. Games like Metal Slug should be able to continue on as 2d games for retro gamers. They could make sequels to older games like burning fight, or new 2d ips that break the formula but which retain the classic feel of old arcade games. (perhaps they can make a game that is suitable for the home market that last longer than a 40min experience? ie like how they put in world tour mode in the home console versions of Street Fighter Alpha 3)

I have the psp capcom classic collection (both of them) and I think it would be great to see sequels to some of the titles like King Of Dragons but they need more depth. The two companies could then port the exclusive games on thier retro handheld console to other handhelds like the vita and 3ds later (much like rayman being ported to just about everything lol) but the retro gamer handheld gets them first.

There are lots of fans of older games who like new sequels to the old games and they should not have to buy a xbox360 or ps3 or 3ds or vita to play that stuff. (would you buy a vita just to play KOF13? with all the gimmicks like touch screen and analogue sticks which would not get used?) If a sequel to a game that is traditionally 2d is done most likely it ends up with 3d graphics and a camera for you to manipulate losing the retro feel. What you want is continuation of the series in 2d. Making a dedicated system for fans of the 2D titles of the past would ensure the games stay loyal to the old style that people prefer.

Now that the DS and GBA are dead, you won't ever see those classic 2d games anymore. (unless they are indie titles on platforms with shit controls lol Quality isn't going to be on the level of a triple A game where the gameplay has a lot of depth to it since it is going for a casual gamer audience)

The timing for something like a retro game handheld with neogeo/gba/saturn graphics is needed.
Not just a portable neogeo but like a system which will be for future 2d games as well. (post street fighter 3 and post Garou Mark of the Wolves and post KOF13.)
They should not have to produce a whole 3d graphics engine for the next street fighter or darkstalkers. That is excessive and a waste of resources since the gameplay is still 2d anyway. Just go back to 2d handdrawn sprites and only make those graphic engines for genres that need it. (ie dead rising, Resident Evil etc)

If they wanted to make a new samurai shodown sequel using KOF12/13 graphics, they could do it and avoid needing to release on next gen consoles. (which become a barrier to people who have no interest in owning a home game system that is mostly aimed at the non-retro gamer who wants more realism)

Pre-order up on Amazon. (Amazon doesn't charge until they ship).

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

$210 AUS delivered with standard shipping, $220 AUS with super fast shipping. Does not take standard cartridges, it's pretty much a TV dock for the handheld, but man it looks rad, and for that price I think I need more gadgetry junk to put on the shelf. :run:

Shitty Gamespot quick look.

So going by this picture... the cart slot on the top is fake?
Image

That's weird. I'm also curious about the cartridges that the handheld supports... ie. can we just download infinite Neo Geo games and copy them on? We need to know! But either way... that's still damn cheap (as long as it's not emulated).

Edit: Nevermind, I actually decided to do some research and the "console" is basically just like a dock you use to get AV-out, charge and plug the controller into. Also, it looks like the handheld uses an SD slot (so give it a week and you'll be able to play any arcade ROM on it... hopefully).

No way. The investment with Neo Geo is with AES games (and some MVS).

You can get a boxed AES console for the price of this.

This is freakin' awesome!

I don't want the mini-AES dock thing though, does anyone have a link to a preorder for just the handheld?

Why do places always fucking insist on the SNES-style button layout? Fucking sucks if you want to play MD games.

Edit: This might be even better value:

Widescreen display for 4:3 games, a d-pad similar to the one in the NGPC but not as good, no confirmation on the later Neo Geo games being able to run on the machine.

After hearing what I heard on that podcast I am avoiding this thing like the plague. It sounds like the only good thing that'll come out of it are the USB-connected Neo Geo sticks.

Pretty much what I posted above. Jeff Gerstmann was decidedly unimpressed and I know he's a real Neo Geo collector.

Oh, I thought what you wrote was regarding that Kogan POS. Wow.

Any idea if it's emulating the Neo Geo or is actual hardware? If they could guarantee a way to dump your own carts on there I'd imagine it'd move more, but if it's emulated then that'll never happen.

You don't get it. This can be played on the bus. And you are supporting SNK.

I think fans will buy one just to hope more games come out for it.

I think capcom should do this and release a capcom handheld with Street fighter alpha 3, Street Fighter III, and Super turbo. And all the games they seem to have chucked onto the classic games compilation discs over the years. They are classics. I would love to see Darkstalkers and Armored warriors on there. Loads of beat em ups could be chucked on to it.
Capcom if you are listening: put this and strider 2 arcade on there. I love arcade 2d titles of the past.

oh and cyberbots:
