You and I both know that's just a redesigned Lotus Elise (built by Lotus), but yes, that's almost exactly what I'd like to see. Except with a hard top - there's simply no way to drive a small convertible without looking effeminate.itch wrote:What, like one of these?

I would love one of those.
I remember not so long ago you could source one for mid 20's. I think that was an import though.

Re: Goodbye Falcon
There was a VX220 in QLD for quite a lot of money a while ago. You can still source an Elise second-hand for basically as much as you want to pay over $27k. I'd get an 07 model or later though, as this is when they changed to Toyota engines from Rover ones.

Re: Goodbye Falcon
Ah, I see.
Definitely want the yota engine.
I'm actually honing in on an 86 as we speak, but the 220 would be totally boss maybe I should get one of those.
That's pretty outstanding value isn't it?

Actually you guys have made me think of that Torana concept from 2004, a twin turbo v6 now that looks like a great car but they never released it
Unfnk, will you ever get the Lotus now you've fallen in love with your current car?

Re: Goodbye Falcon
Maybe. I might actually get an NSX though, but the prices vary a lot for those, and for some crazy reason, the majority are automatics! Autos drive me bonkers, and it beats me why you'd get a car like that with an auto transmission.
But yeah, a Lotus of some sort is still in the grand plan. Probably an Elise, but I'd like an Evora if they drop in price for a second-hand one, or even better, an Exige V6 if I come into some money.

Re: Goodbye Falcon
What's wrong with the NSX? The only thing I can think of is that from the wrong angle, it looks like a ute rather than a supercar.

Re: Goodbye Falcon
It's -old-.
The driving experience would be really under-whelming.
This 1991 NSX is 80,000 dollars.
This 2005 M5 is 75,000 dollars.
A 1991 6 cyl Japanese car or a 2005 10 cyl German supercar? Gee.. let me think...
Mind you, chances are the NSX would appreciate in value.
5,000 dollars though. You could buy a new PC, an XBOX One & a PS4 to go with your new M5.

Re: Goodbye Falcon
Yeah, but people pay more attention to the NSX when it drives past. A BMW is just a regular sedan from the outside. How is anybody supposed to know it's special unless you spend ages waxing lyrical about its V10 engine to anybody that will listen (which they won't after very long)?
I came out from paying for fuel at the servo last night, and there were half a dozen people standing around, gawking at my car just because it looks unusual. That's just an MR2. A BMW M5 wouldn't attract that kind of attention, but an NSX would attract even more.
Call me crazy, but I think that's half the point of a supercar - the pleasure and excitement it brings to other people when they see it. What's the point if nobody notices?

Re: Goodbye Falcon
Also, that particular NSX is hilariously overpriced. One in similar condition sold for $30k recently.

True. Mind you, I prefer sleepers anyway.
4 door luxury sedan that'll blows the doors off most anything else? Lovely.
Fuckit, I'd even take the M badges off, lol.

Re: Goodbye Falcon
Are you in the mr2 car club, unfnk?
My old man and a friend of mine were in it for a while, before they sold their MR2s.
I tagged along a few times, they have some pretty sweet meetups and tours etc.

This is their forum.

Deff go there if you need some after market parts/advice on whatever.

Ha. Anyone driving an early 90s NSX these days would remind me of actor Troy McLure in that episode of The Simpsons featuring his attempted comeback.

Pretty bad ass.

Re: Goodbye Falcon
Depends on the roads. My MX5 smoked most cars on the windy roads and that's where the most fun is. Power-to-weight is overlooked by many too. People are so keen to say 'My car has 240bhp', but if it weighs 1300kg then it's only 184bhp per 1000kg.itch wrote:True. Mind you, I prefer sleepers anyway.

Re: Goodbye Falcon
Here is an example of power-to-weight using a Falcon (it is a Ford thread after all) and the BMW M5
2010 BMW E60 M5 (5.0 litre V10 NA)
500hp / 1855kg = 269hp per 1000kg
2010 Ford Falcon FG Boss 315 (302cu/4.9 litre V8 single Supercharger)
449hp / 1792kg = 250hp per 1000kg
2010 BMW E60 M5 (5.0 litre V10 NA)
