Seems like the performance gains aren't as stellar if you have a decent cpu, ie core i5-i7. NVidia intel owners no reason to cry yet.In Battlefield 4, we have more robust information. AMD claims that the FX-8350 + R9 290X will see an average of 23.8% better performance under Mantle, while the Core i5-4670K + 290X will see a performance improvement of just 7.5%.

27 different armour sets!
Re: Master Race gaming thread
Just finished re-playing through hl2 / plus ep 1 & 2 this game is fucking greatest single player fps yet created imo. The world valve have created is just fantastic. The art style, sites and sounds are all soo well done.
Graphics still hold up to this day running 1200p, 8aa ,16x af maxed everything 100fps plus
Recommend everyone give it another play through and relive the sensation which is hl2

Re: Master Race gaming thread
How? That part where I said I only played Rome TW for years meant I literally only played Rome TW for years. That would mean there was a lot of stuff I missed out on, I didn't play through HL2 until it came out on 360 and now I'm looking to rectify that. Don't we all have a list of shame?
Not a huge surprise that it is the hardcore, emotionally-invested xbots that are taking offense. Must have been the XBL cancellation thing. Defend the hive etc

I know how you feel buddy. You should have seen them savage me when I decided to quit PS+.
See you on master race. I'll be using different drivers bro but I think we'll still find each other.

Not playing HL2 isn't shame list, it's sacrilege.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
Training wheels confirmed.
Mantle update, drivers are out, tried star swarm and there is a huge increase in performance, 2-3x increase with Mantle, which is impressive. Bf4 with mantle seems to smooth out the hiccups and dips on busy maps.
So there is a definite inprovement on draw call performance and CPU Util. Feels like I got a nice CPU upgrade from a driver update.

This was my favourite games years ago when i was into modding and having the best of the best pc's.Madmya wrote:Not playing HL2 isn't shame list, it's sacrilege.
These days with kids and life in general i can't invest $2000 plus into a pc but have opted for quick and easy gaming with consoles.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
I was thinking over the weekend that I haven't upgraded my PC in ages & probably not going to do a full rebuild until end of the year or maybe early next year. Still running an Intel i7 920 @ 4GHz, Radeon 6970 & 8GB DDR3 RAM. I usually play my games at 1680 x 1050 (native monitor resolution), unless I run them over the long HDMI cable to the lounge room TV at 1080p.
Most games I throw at it play at highest graphical settings, even Bioshock Infinite, Crysis 2 etc & not much of a performance hit at all. I don't really want to put much money to it now, but do any of you Ranchers think it'll be worth waiting until I do a full rebuild later or upgrade my video card now?

I think you said it best - the games you're running are running well. Why upgrade now?
Re: Master Race gaming thread
Definitely wait until the Maxwell cards are out. Maybe this time next year would be a good time?

Re: Master Race gaming thread
I'm not doubting your gaming pedigree, I just can't understand how you can avoid HL2 at launch when you've got a PC capable (assuming it was capable). HL2 then CS:S was gold, loved those early days of steam.Candy Arse wrote:I've played through it + Ep1 and 2 something like 3 times...just never on PC.Madmya wrote:Not playing HL2 isn't shame list, it's sacrilege.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
Yeah I'm not questioning your decision to go console only. Your reasons are completely understandable. Just want to state though that you don't need to spend $2k on a console to match the quality of a PS4 and xbone. I think that's the main difference about this gen compared to previous gens, a cheap PC can easily match and trump brand new consoles. Console games will get a lot better though, of course, but so will PC hardware. I can't justify the price gap anymore given the freedom of PC, personally.MiNiStRy wrote:This was my favourite games years ago when i was into modding and having the best of the best pc's.Madmya wrote:Not playing HL2 isn't shame list, it's sacrilege.

Can never find a game of counter strike these days on steam. Still to this day one of the best fps online imo.

No it sure as hell wasn't capable. It was literally a Rome:TW machine.Madmya wrote:I'm not doubting your gaming pedigree, I just can't understand how you can avoid HL2 at launch when you've got a PC capable (assuming it was capable). Owning Ocarina of Time on two different platforms and still never finished it...that's probably closer to sacrilege

Re: Master Race gaming thread
Well shit, not having a PC capable changes the story just a little bit!
I bought CS:GO recently (runs well on my surface!), and I could find a game but yeah you're right, nowhere near as popular as it once was. I was disappointed you couldn't spraypaint a tag anymore either! I guess there was too much porn around.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
I think the years of rampant cheating in that game ruined it, I picked up CS:GO in the recent steam sales, had a play, it's ok but the core gameplay hasn't really evolved/changed much at all, they just keep re-skinning the thing. I didn't have any trouble finding active servers though, seems to be a few still playing it, probably had a player base spike due to the steam sales.
I'm gonna try and play a bit more warframe with my brother, seems like a fun co-op action game, runs rock solid 60fps on PC with lots of nice particle effects, some of the warframe designs and weapons my brother unlocked look pretty nice. For a free to play game, they're not to obscene on the item upgrades.
I also tried another free to play shooter, "Loadout", has TF2 art style but plays like a cross of TF2/UT/Quake. Was fun, the hook is in the crafting of weapons and gear, which is where some of the upgrade prices looked obscene imo, especially considering the game isn't very deep at all.
Seeing a lot of free2play stuff popup on steam now, I think mobiles/tablets have ruined the industry and steered us towards this model. Maybe this model is better suited for online games, since we already have a semi implementation with season passes/DLC.
