Some incredibly sad news to report today. Per The Chicago Tribune, writer/director/actor Harold Ramis has died at the age of 69. Often taking a notable creative role in the projects he appeared in, he of course co-wrote as well as starred in Ghostbusters. He was also the writer and director of classics like Caddyshack and Groundhog Day. In addition, he directed the first installment of the National Lampoon’s Vacation series and was the writer of Animal House, Meatballs and Back To School. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg – Ramis was heavily involved in many other wonderful projects.
He had also been making a late career resurgence appearing in films like Knocked Up and Walk Hard. Not only did I immensely enjoy his work as a writer and director, I found his screen presence to be genuinely warm and human and I’m going to miss not seeing more of him.
According to the Tribune his death was a result of “complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a rare disease that involves swelling of the blood vessels.” He had apparently been battling the disorder since 2010. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.

Bet this won't see the same outpouring of grief as PSH because it isn't drug related. And this is a far greater loss of talent by any measure.

You can be so spot on with some things and so far from the mark with others. In this case, spot on. I think Groundhog Day is one of the best movies ever made. Certainly in my top ten...maybe my top five.Scullibundo wrote:If there is a god, this dude is in heaven for Groundhog Day alone.

Indeed Groundhog Day is an amazing movie. I can't remember if it got a cinema release here or not, always thought it was a straight to video release here.
Re: R.I.P Harold "Egon" Ramis
Not sure where you are but it got a cinema release in Australia.

I don't think I've actually felt anything when a celebrity has passed since John Candy. Sad news.

Without him writing and being in it, hopefully Ghostbusters 3 never happens...

Somebody said it's like one of the Beatles died.
Love Ghostbusters (hell, I dressed up as Egon at a Halloween party the night I met my wife) and Groundhog Day. Absolute classics.

Re: R.I.P Harold "Egon" Ramis
A very sad day indeed. His last movie was year one as he was diagnosed with a rare form of blood disease just after filming and from then on it was all down hill. R I P

Re: R.I.P Harold "Egon" Ramis
I was shocked and extremely saddened as well. From writing Animal House to directing National Lampoons Vacation, right through to Analyze This and the amazing Groundhog Day, Harold Ramis kept me laughing when I was going through many hardships. Ghostbusters WAS my childhood. Sad news indeed.
