OK mate, I'll have that running before I start the server tomorrow so that it's all ready for you to join.
According to the creator, although other players will still be able to connect normally, it increases the efficiency of the network code and reduces lag for everyone if everyone uses this program:
When one of your friends is not using my program then his client will still send a lot of packages over the internet. That in turn can cause the network to slow down. As a result data can not be sent over the internet fast enough and my program gets forced to buffer more data.
The wall is all but finished. I just need to put some doors in and more access stairs to the top level. Because I'm bored of the wall though I've now started on a stately mansion.
On Thursday I won't be around to play, but I'll set up the server at the normal time. If my internet goes down or my computer crashes or what have you, then tough shit.
I've been thinking (dangerous, I know!) - my PC is on almost 24/7 anyway, wouldn't it be better to host a server on my PC so people can connect whenever? Or do people prefer a scheduled time for this?

I don't mind. I set up the server on my computer because it had to be somewhere, but I'm happy to relinquish it. The server save file is about 8Mb so it's easy enough to transfer.
I suppose the only issue is for Burnzoire because he can't connect reliably without that third-party software running, so unfunk would have to have that running all the time, and my experience with it was that it was a resource hog when someone was logged in. Having said that though, my computer's nearly 2 years old and isn't a beast by any means, so maybe it would run OK on unfunk's computer.
Anyone still paying the PC version regularly? I was thinking of maybe getting a Realms thing happening so we could have a persistent world to drop into at any time we wanted.

What?.......isn't it just like 30 odd Euro for a lifetime account?
I have two so my sons can play and fight together, just like real life. I probably should get a third but I like making them share, I think its important.
Anyway, I'm in!
....AND most importantly, I've always liked you UnFunk.

Nah, Minecraft Realms is something different - it's a subscription to a server/slot running a persistent world. You need to have already dropped your however many dollars on the game itself first. So if I own the realm, you guys can log in and play even if I'm not. It all sounds pretty cool.

Build it and they will come (maybe). I've signed up for a 30 day account so we can test whether it's any good or not.
I've invited unfnk, Mister Gun, and Burnzoire. Other people need to post their Minecraft name here if they want to play. I've made unfnk an "Operator" user level because this was all his idea anyway. I have no idea what powers that gives him.
Oh, the server name is Rancho Relaxo and my name in Minecraft is Hercy.
I've built a basic wooden safe house that everyone can use. It's near the spawn area in a clearing in a valley. Now I'm building a large wall around it so that we can have a safe area.
