Re: Video game music
I like this song sounds like remix for castlevania with more metal (can't even remember if I have posted it before or not because I have so many metalised versions posted already lol) :

not actually cradle of filth related, what is wrong with people?
x-23 theme from mvc3: Why did I post that? It reminds me so much of Information High from macross plus (which I love):
Great rip off of the song. heh

Re: Video game music
While I'm at it.
This song here from the movie blood sport sounds so much like the King's theme from tekken 2:
variation of the 'fight to survive' theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYLOGDT4VEk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
king's theme from tekken 2: Ken's theme from SFII was ripped from top gun, so I think king's was ripped from blood sport.

Re: Video game music
more Yuzo koshiro stuff
Ys I & II chronicles (I just recently bought this)
Final Battle Termination To Make The End of Battle Holders of Power First Step Towards wars Battle Ground Protectors Chase of Shadow:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBOrIPDGKgk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This one sounds cool.
Termination not as cool but more epic than the psp one
Fans of xbox and who wear metallica tshirts will probably be into it.

Re: Video game music
Sounds like great boss killing music. Builds up to a "a big dude is so coming for yo'ass to make you its bitch. You're doomed" feel to it.
old version
Beat Of Destruction
updated version:
Searing struggle:
people keep joking about it being almost the same as a song from this game:
Valestein Caslte
Steeling the Will to Fight
Sealed Time:
Not that big a fan of the the Doof Doof Doof, it's not wipeout.

Re: Video game music
I found my Vib Ribbon PS1 disc in an old CD player that I was throwing out. I've been wondering where it got to all these years. Suffice to say I gave it a play straight away. Awesome music.

The intro movie to PSO gave me goosebumps when i first saw it... That bit where the sun peaks around the planet... Sooo good... Glad you put the lalalalala version... The version with the lyrics are crap. heavy Nova is somewhere shedding a tear for his PSO days.. Bless him.

Turrican II title theme metal remix
I really like that. Sounds like something that would fit in a megaman title.
original: original showing the full intro with reptilian aliens boarding the ship and killing the crew before the last survivor puts on a spartan suit to get revenge: crappy new updated one that lacks the energy of the original:

Re: Video game music
What can I say, no other platform, imo, captured the imagination of musicians and gamers alike. Everything now feels like it's done by orchestras and shit.GeneraL CyberFunK wrote:Holy shit t0mby, that's a fucking awesome list.
Still to this day I can boot up a SID music player and have these tunes pumping (Isn't IK+ a 16min track?). I could've rattled off a few more like Sanxion loader (Dat Romeo & Juliet track!), Thing on a Spring or Skate or Die but it's hard to narrow down such an extensive collection of tunes.
There's a site that has awesome remixes. THC Flatline does a great Parallax, worth looking for GCF!

Re: Video game music
Yep I have a SID player on the PC at work and I often get confused looks when people walk through the office heheh
If we were gonna go just C64 Music.. my top ones would be:
Parallax
Double Take
Monty on the Run
Auf Weirdesen Monty
Skate of Die,
IK+
Ocean Loader 3.0
Turbo Outrun
Great Giana Sisters
Wizball
Delta
Krakout
Mega Apocalypse..
The list goes on...
As a side note.. I actually have Jeroen Tel (Great Giana Sisters tune) on my Facebook.. he's awesome.

Did you ever notice that Martin Galway doesn't use drum tracks?

Didn't know he did Arkanoid, but then again I only played it once as I am not a fan on Breakout games.

Re: Video game music
Guile's theme from street fighter II. It goes with anything.
But the best music for me is the generic rock/metal in the background of all the guilty gear games. Perfectly suits the fast pace of all the fighting in the series:
People who listen to c64 music need to understand that whatever was done back then could easily be done better today with SNES music chip. Nostalgia clouds your judgement.
PC music is superior to c64. Daggerfall opening theme: the epic music makes you think of a classic movie theme like star wars or superman or terminator or excalibur or conan.
These movies were memorable because of the opening scenes and music that acompany them. Music that takes you to another place is what I think game creators need to think about. I like cheesy videogame music but we are so much more sophisticated now. You are just stuck in the past.

Re: Video game music
Nah.
Look if you don't believe me take out Contra on the SNES. Listen to the movie-like music in the action bits and tell me that the SNES was not the golden age of the midi?
Not even anything on ps1 could match SNES.
Get out Mercs on the SNES. Listen to the rock tunes in the background. Better than arcade.
C64 is close but SNES is the best for MIDI music by FAR thanks to the sony chip included with it. You could get movie like soundtracks without CD.
