Canceled the movie package today and am just keeping the sports and A&E
Not a bad lineup on stan but for the first day for netflix they have a lot of those programs and more. Just noticed they added Godzilla in the 4k section along with a few other 1080p programs. Really looking forward to daredevil which is exclusive to netflix.
My problem is that a lot of the shows I want to watch aren't the current season and will only be added after the season ends. Pointless really. Yeah, the Marvel Netflix shows are great but a handful of shows isn't really worth it yet.
Basically I want to watch shows ASAP at a reasonable price.

It wants me to sign up first.
I know Panasonic are being pricks about it and only providing it for more recent TVs despite it being on pretty much anything they've released since 2010
I signed up yesterday, really impressed with the streaming quality, 1080p looks great far better than anything I've seen on FTA/Cable, so much content is in HD. No buffering issues all works great.
Already out of the gate I feel there is a great selection of shows/movies that will only get better with time. My list is already filled up with stuff to watch, if you are the sort of person that likes watching complete seasons, netflix is right up your ally.
I think foxtel are in trouble, how long can they last on that sports crutch?
I was actually impressed how well the US Netflix ran from here. I could get FHD content no problems ( buffering) and it looked almost blu ray quality. Problem was it ate up my bandwidth like anythig. It wasn't too long until I was capped. Glad to see this unmetered on Optus.
I signed up for the 1 month trial last night for Nicole. At first she's like "this is all old stuff" and then found instant gold with The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt by Tina Fey.
I signed up also... pity it's not latest season stuff but for the price it's still totally worth it. So far it's incredibly quick to stream and still retains enough quality. I like the way you can have separate profiles to swap between easily as well.
Yes the kids profile got a working yesterday, I like how it keeps track of progress in all your shows, you can just resume exactly where you last left off, I was hoping between devices and it synced the progress across them all. Nice.
Now I just need to quit my job and stop playing games to have time to watch all of it.
It will be interesting to see how these services affect piracy. With a Stan and a Netflix subscription (about $20 a month) you'd get pretty much every show you want... Fuck foxtel. I get Fetch TV for free with my internet so that works out to a pretty awesome deal.
That's the crux of it really. No way to see the show you want until it comes out on shelves (at ridiculous prices) or late on commercial tv. Seriously, the complete series of breaking bad costs $200. For that price you get over a year of streaming netflix. Streaming is the way forward. You seldom need to actually own a physical copy of anything these days.
Not sure about Stan or whatever it's called, but competition is good. I doubt fox will respond quick enough.
Mrs rang up yesterday to sort out a new deal with foxtel as we don't need movies anymore and a few other channels but was told that the people who sort out the plans are in a meeting and will ring you back tomorrow. Well got no phone call as from what I can tell they are in crisis as a lot of people are jumping ship. Picture quality on Netflix is top notch and the sound is awesome, can't wait for more programs to be swayed to netflix.
I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the meeting where they decided on that name.
"Oh shit, we're launching tomorrow and we haven't come up with a name yet!"
"Ohshitohshitohshit!"
"Quick, Gladys! What's our top shareholder's name?"
*type type type* "It appears to be some bloke called Adolf"
"...nah, that doesn't sound Aussie enough. I know, what's his son's name?"
"Hmmmm" *type type type* "Kevin."
"...Kevin. Hmm... bit too political, People might think we charge $900 for the service or something. Does he have any brothers or sons?"
*type type type*
"Dammit, Gladys! TYPE FASTER!"
"Fuck you, Barry" *type type type* "He has a younger brother called Stanley."
"Fuck! Still not Aussie enough!"
"fuckfuckfuuuuuuuIIIIII know! How about 'Stan'?"
"WINNER WINNER, CHICKEN MOTHERFUCKING DINNER! 'STAN' IT IS!"
The sky calls to us; if we do not destroy ourselves, we will one day venture to the stars
All I know is, I'm watching Better Call Saul the day it comes out in HD without waiting for it to download.
The other day, I watched a movie I really wanted to see (Out of The Furnace) exactly when I wanted to in HD with no buffering or problems and it was actually a good movie. Mind blown. Why has it taken so long in Aus??
I got Netflix and Stan yesterday. Both are fantastic, but gotta wonder why Stan keeps dropping out on my ipad from the app? Not a good way to get people to stay on after the free one month trial. Still, it's about time we got these types of services here.
First time I've heard of Stan is this thread. Stan . "Crappy name, great service" They probably should have went with some more original, like WebFlix™.
Apparently your AU netflix account works on the US version and worldwide, all you need to do is use a DNS spoofing service like Getflix and log into the US site with your AU login.
