Re: Windows 10
Just upgraded my Asus ROG G750 laptop to Windows 10.
The process for this machine was painless... and this time around I left all the Nvidia drivers where they are. Did it overnight and everything was cool when I got up this morning.

My desktop and Surface, and my wife's desktop are all running Windows 10 now. I just have the home theatre PC to go, but I'm not keen on doing that today as the derby is on and I'm having people over and I don't want anything to go wrong

Re: Windows 10
The one thing that annoys me with Windows 10 is that there always seems to be a new update everyday... and it automatically downloads for you. I prefer the old way where it tells me that there is a new update, and I download it when it suits me.

You can change it to install when you want, our even schedule a time during the night or something

It is not the installing that I have the problem with, it is the downloading. I need as much bandwidth when I play onlinejizzlobber wrote:You can change it to install when you want, our even schedule a time during the night or something

Re: Windows 10
When you boot up, check your updates...do it straight away and you're less likely to get one during a sesh. Not an ideal solution but otherwise you're better off telling windows not to update at all over a metered connection.
Re: Windows 10
Decided to update this weekend whilst still on the vodafone free data weekends. Went pretty painlessly only hitch was getting a black border around the screen, but once I updated my nvidia drivers it was back to normal.
I'm liking it so far, though I'm a little ingrained in windows 8.1 gestures and I keep going for the charms bar to shut down and access some other features heh. Pretty quickly getting used to it though and it's definitely slick, and I feel quite a bit more accessible... moving more towards phone style menu/navigation but still got full pc nitty gritty in there.

I grabbed one for my mothers old vista laptop.
I wouldn't recommend this place. I bought a Windows 8.1 Pro key, only to find it had already been sold to somebody else. Their "live chat" is always unavailable despite promoting that they have 9+ staff available, and they haven't responded to my support ticket.
Got a refund from them. 18 days later.

Re: Windows 10
After many hours, I'm still no cIoser to getting my parents laptop off Windows 8. I won't bore you all with the story, suffice to say I want to smash that laptop into tiny pieces with a hammer. Meanwhile I am running Visual Studio on Windows 10 in VMware Fusion off an external Thundercunt SSD on my MacBook Pro. Silky smooth. Grabbing the resize widget on windows seems a little too finicky (reminds me of Ubuntu) but overall it's notably less offensive than past efforts.
The Windows 10 default calculator app is one of the best calculator apps I've ever used. Basic arithmetic and scientific mode I was expecting, but that programming tab? Best thing MS has done since the Intellimouse. Got the fancy new Minesweeper, looking forward to giving it some time when I'm done XORing ya mum. #pcmasterrace

Build 10525 is out for Insiders; it adds the ability to set your titlebar colour. Because, you know, nobody at all suggested that might be a good idea during the pre-release period.

Re: Windows 10
After having put it off for a few weeks, I updated the HTPC to Windows 10 yesterday. Only did a brief test before I went to bed but it still seems to work OK (it still boots straight into Kodi and the TV Tuner still works).

Yeah the whole continuum thing is where Microsoft just may be able to make some inroads in the smartphone market.
I think the idea of a full pc in your pocket is pretty amazing, combined with OneDrive and all that... very handy indeed.

Doesn't MS have their own phone department? Why aren't they making some new super awesome Lumia that does all of this?

They are, Google (Bing) cityman and talkman aka Lumia 950.
There are some leaks out there so they can't be too far from being announced.

It's bizarre how Microsoft have never cracked the phone market.

Re: Windows 10
Tried an iphone out today.
Siri is just shy of cortana when used with a car head unit to read and send sms's but still excellent.
OS was very slick even on an old iphone 5.
The OS feels limited compared to windows and obviously android but is much better than my last stay.
Apps obviously make up for os deficiencies.
I've had my fill for now and am happily back on my 1520 waiting for MS to deliver on their next promise knowing worst case an iPhone won't ruin my life.

I gave Android a go, just didn't like it... Don't care what anyone says, Windows phone is the best phone OS there is imo.
I'll be keeping an eye on these new Lumia 950 devices with continuum, stick your snap chat up your arse!!
