Second part of the game gets pretty serious pretty early with some callbacks to Snake Eater and Peace Walker.

GZ was still a 10 minute game. Never forget.
It's pretty cool that you can select older missions to improve your rank.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
I feel like I'm in a grind zone unless I just focus on the main missions. I have a Combat Mission I can't do because I can't fulton vehicles, I'm a few thousand short of resources to upgrade my base to level 3 to increase my staff as it's all maxed at 65 ppl each. Looking back at earlier missions I can see I have Transport Specialists and the like find and extract as well.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Not sure if I have done the right thing but as soon as I had enough GMP & Resources I upgraded the Base Development Platform so the amount of materials obtained and processing time is increase that way I shouldn't have to grind those materials too much.
Also decided that I am going to do all unlocked Side Ops first then when there are no more move onto the Campaign missions. Rince & repeat.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
In case I didn't mention it I managed to pick up the hard back collectors strategy guide. Not interested in looking at the missions or side ops but everything else after that about the Mother Base, positive and negative heroism, what has a positive or negative impact on your relationship with DD, D-Horse & Quiet etc. The guide is very indepth as you would expect.
Still haven't bothered processing in the campaign, have finished about 20 side ops now and managed to find the legendary gunsmith so I can have custom weapons, first up was the silenced sniper rifle with tranquilliser rounds. Going back to the earlier missions to grab all the specialists, blue prints and skills I've missed.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Funny you should ask, was just about to post about it. It's my first foray into Metal Gear Online so I didn't know what to expect, kinda disappointed tbh, maybe I was expecting a more stealth heavy online game instead of players diving and going guns blazing. It's alright, probably better with a team of people that talk and coordinate but I guess that's the gist of online now as we get older and have more commitments compared to the good old days.
In other news, I've finished around 30 Side Ops yet and still refuse to progress in the campaign although I think having DD with you on missions really makes it easier now since he spots enemies from over 100 meters away. Probably stick with taking the horse or Quiet when doing campaign.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
So, since my PS4 has shat itself I haven't been able to play this fine game. Learned today that Sony still hasn't received my PS4 for exchange and no one knows where it is (fuck Australia Post, bunch of incompetents) I broke and bought the PC version. Long live Master Race gaming.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
I'm looking to rip through this game as much as I can over the weekend. The FOB adjustments are potentially really annoying so I'd rather get my shit done before some dick invades my base and takes my resources while I'm in bed.
Plus I want to get back to Witcher 3.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Does it count your base as being available for infiltration based on how recently you last connected? I only ask as I read about people declining the T&C because of GMP tax players are experiencing by connecting but not partaking in FOB missions.Candy Arse wrote:I'm looking to rip through this game as much as I can over the weekend. From hereI just realised this today. Whenever I boot the game, and ever since mission 22 (MB rescue mission) I always go offline before anything else, so I'm even bypassing the FOB tutorial.
Very recently, as soon as I do this, I get subtracted 250000 GMP, all my placement guns are automatically limited to 6 of each and all my vehicles to 3 of each. Basically, all sorts of things that took a long time to collect in game, and offline, just disappear

Story mode complete.
Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Despite running a mid range 2013 GPU, this game runs a solid 60fps with everything maxed out and an odd resolution (1900 x 1200 - just the way my Dell is). Graphics engine is slick.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
I'm going to spoil the fuck out of this game since I finished the story a few days ago and have had time to think about it since there's so much that goes on.
Spoiler!
Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Finished the game last week.
Overall, whilst it was the best playing MGS, it was also the weakest in terms of narrative.
That said, I didn't mind Sutherland as Snake and I thought Miller was relatively well done as a character.
A great game, but definitely not my GOTY, which is still Bloodborne for me.

It had to be able to run on ps3 which is an old system. It would run like crap if they just targeted new systems only.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Unsure where else to mention this, but David Hayter was at Perth Supanova (along with the guy who did Colonel Campbell's voice) and I shook Snake's hand and he wrote a message and autographed my copy of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Limited Edition for Xbox 360. They only made 5000 copies of that worldwide so I figured it was a good choice to get signed.
As I was walking away he stopped me and said "you're pretty good" in his Snake voice and well I couldn't stop grinning after that
