I'll get a 950 if my wife will let me... it'll be a hard sell because she's over my buying gadgets, but I'm gonna try.
I think the band looks pretty sweet, Microsoft are making some great hardware here!

I'm a massive Microsoft defender but:
Yup wm10 took a backwards step from 8.1.
Broken arse core apps (mail and calendar especially). When windows phone can't even achieve its traditional strengths anymore it is not good!
*yeah the OS is pre release but windows 10 isn't and the same apps are broken there.
I grabbed a loan iphone 6 sent my 1520 in for repair (fucked touch) and ordered myself an iphone 6s plus
Very pleased with how ios has come along since I had an iphone 4 and all my ms services and apps work better than they did in wm10. It's totally seamless
MS need to get their shit together and I will not be rushing back in to a new lumia.
Surface pc's though... all gravy!

Re: So how about that Microsoft Surface?
Microsoft have come a looooooong way with their software. The fact that they produce such top-shelf experiences for third party OSes speaks volumes for them as a company, IMO. I just wish they were on this "compelling hardware" kick when they came up with the XBox One.

Re: So how about that Microsoft Surface?
Correct which is why i have bailed to iphone. Better hardware much better resale. Also ms have broken all their good apps or neglected them on their own system.unfnknblvbl wrote:Microsoft have come a looooooong way with their software. It's great to see them putting so much focus on their core apps and services and being tied to them has allowed me to be platform agnostic.
I'll revisit their phone offerings in a year or so but for now they are not compelling for even windows phone converts like myself and lestat.

Re: So how about that Microsoft Surface?
Yeah well it is still all sorts of fucked.Madmya wrote:The Mail app has had a much needed update recently, it was completely f'd for me.
My ms account is name@outlook
Put this in on win8.1 and it flows through to all apps including mail
Put this in on both win10 variants and it flows through.... Incorrectly
OS/store/other = name@outlook
Mail= randomalias@outlook (has never been set as primary alias)
This causes mail to shit itself all the time (sync delays and warnings about incorrect details)
Strangely emails still send as correct alias.
Cant change it because it is baked in to grab from the OS.
Totally unacceptable and been a known thing to ms since desktop preview program and still not fixed.
Like I said. Fucking interns!

Ah, so that's why it keeps telling me my Outlook details are out of date. That's ridiculous.

W10 mail is fucked for me. Won't sync old sent emails and keeps asking me to fix settings on multiple accounts.

Re: So how about that Microsoft Surface?
If I'm sending an important email I'll go to the outlook website rather than rely on Mail.
So I think I'm going to get the Surface Book, i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB HDD, dedicated graphics card. That's $3k, I'm hoping there can be a 10% student discount there. The higher option than that (i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB) is $4200!

It is awesome. I'm actually struggling with the price. If I can get that 10% off I'm all over it, but it seems like they're not offering the student deal at the moment so I may have to wait.

Re: So how about that Microsoft Surface?
These things are great on paper and look great in the flesh. As mobile computers they're very cool. They are shithouse as tablets though. A desktop OS just doesn't cut it for people used to Android tablets or iPads. Windows makes you wait for apps or restarts, often you're just looking at a black screen and people are ready to fling them against a wall. Which brings me to fragility. They get dropped and it's not pretty. I have a smashed one with me right now and have just learned it's uneconomical to repair. What a waste.

Re: So how about that Microsoft Surface?
You're right. As a Tablet, my Surface RT was not that great as the stuff I wanted to use it for was more PC. Half the time you'd load Excel or something Office based and it would not respond as it was loading up. I don't know if they fixed that for future versions but my experience with the Surface was that if I was to use it as a mobile PC.. it was pretty good.. but it didn't have the speed, apps or usability that the ipad has.

Re: So how about that Microsoft Surface?
Latest Pro. People try to use them like tablets and fairly expect them to be snappy like a mobile OS. You can't end apps or restart the device as simply you can with a proper tablet. It's also less reliable in maintaining wifi connections when being walked around a site vs an iPad. The black screen occurs when users try to wake it up or restart it. Google 'surface pro black screen' and you'll see it's a common thing.

Re: So how about that Microsoft Surface?
To close an app you swipe down from the top and it's gone, 1 finger movement.
To restart you press the power button on the home screen which gives you the options to sleep, shut down our restart, so 2 taps from the home screen to restart
I don't know about the wifi thing as I use mine at home.
I will Google the black screen thing, I have never seen it.
I have the surface 3 running Windows 10.

Re: So how about that Microsoft Surface?
Yeah I couldn't recommend a surface as a tablet over an ipad or an android-based device. They just do it better. However if someone wants PC functionality, even a little, I'd definitely recommend a surface. Closing apps is easy, as Jizz stated, as is switching between apps and getting split screens happening.
Mind you Mr. CyberFunk, the Surface line is now so much better than the RT days. Jizz's Surface 3 would jizz all over your RT.

Yes, 3 times, like a Pro, except it's not a Pro - wrong architecture under its hood.

Re: So how about that Microsoft Surface?
I can't even get my surface to turn on now.. it's like the power connector doesn't connect properly.. out of the 5/6 little prongs.. the two opposite end ones stand out.. yet the middle ones are pushed in and I assume aren't making contact in order to get a charge. For what I want to use the RT for now (as a walk in attendance tracker for my clients.. kinda like a punch in punch out sorta thing) it would be perfectly fine.. just can't use it.
Next thing I get will be a better Desktop.
