The Force Awakens - 20 x better than the prequels!
Please don't post any spoilers you may have heard until the official launch date 17/12, but after that, this is the thread for open discussion. There will be no requirement to hide or tag your discussion with spoiler.
Anyone going to a midnight? I'm not really into Star Wars but I'm going with Juz and Ministry to a 3d cattle class in Epping at midnight tomorrow.
Here we can discuss how Disney and JJA redeemed the franchise... or how they didn't.

...and you can keep your spoilers centralised in this thread.
I'm not going to the midnight sessions this time around. I did all the prequels, but I really can't be arsed this time. That, and I have nobody to go with anyway

Yeah, no midnight screening this time around for me. Going 9:30pm Thursday night, 2D VMAX at Top Ryde in Sydney - my fave screen around outside of IMAX.
Will be going off the grid on Thursday!

Reviews from those at the Premiere are leaking through now.. They all say Star Wars is back... Best movie since Empire Strikes Back. Possibly biased but good initial reports nonetheless.
My partner is seeing it at 12:01 tonight.. I'm seeing it at 8:50pm on Friday night. I'm only a little bit excited.

Carrie Fisher is hilarious. I've only read her red carpet comments in articles but once again she's amusingly and swearingly off-message.

I heard Darth Vader is Princess Leias dad, but take that with a grain of salt.

Yeah I wasn't at all bothered to try for midnight tickets. I just went into Epping cinemas yesterday and asked when they weren't booked out and he was like "we're not booked out..except for Gold Class opening night."
Midnight screening tickets : I have you now.

I have a job interview at the crack of dawn now, so I couldn't have gone even if I wanted to

You could've arranged have the interview at the cinema.

Yeah no excuses Unfnk, I just got back from seeing it and have to graduate in 4 hours.
I'm glad to report it wasn't shit. I'd go so far as to say it was pretty good. Will watch again.

yep. funny in parts...very true to its origin. left so much open for the next installment.
Here comes the part where you should not be reading if you haven't seen it.
Totally your last chance.
You were warned.
It was the right thing to kill Han. it worked well. And they didn't dwell on it.
Now, who is Rey?

Managed to purchase a ticket a few minutes ago on the cinemas website for a 13:45 showing and they were only $8.50 and that was for the 3D one too. Huzzah!

Enjoy! The 3D is very well done and in the dog fighting scenes you feel like your in the cock pit. Also the sheer size and scale of the imperial ship fly over is breath taking

WHY IS 3PO's ARM RED?
I don't think I want to wait two or three years to find out.

I really thought you were baiting us with this, until Han walked onto the bridge.Cletus wrote:

I totally expected him to be Han or Luke's son since the trailer where it showed Vaders mask.
Fantastic movie, had the feels a few times just from triggering memories from when I was in my pre teens. They did an awesome job.
Wonder if Lucas was at the premiere?

Re: The Force Awakens thread *spoilers by 17th
I meant that though. I felt it worked well, allowed Ford to bow out gracefully. Being killed by his own son was perfectly acceptable. Now I assume Phasma was thrown down a garbage chute but I expected she'd have been more involved. I doubt she's dead though.
Now what the fuck is going on with Threepio's red arm?!! I think the entire story will revolve around this. It's a key to it all.

I didn't even recognise him with his red arm. Almost like Superman wearing glasses.

You'd be pissed if you saw this before the movie.
