Re: OculusRift
I played Dactyl Nightmare once, back in the 90s, does that count?

$781 AUD.
Thought about it for 3 seconds then realised I spent $200 more for my GPU and yo VR is back so fuck it.

Re: OculusRift
I have my order confirmation email.
Hope you get it sorted out. Australia actually gets a really good deal for once, it's less than what the direct currency conversion would be

Re: OculusRift
Still at work and just checked the pre order site now. Changing country to Australia changes price to $649. Anyone know if that is USA dollars or Aussie dollars?

I had some issues ordering too. It initially said March but wouldn't accept any credit/debit cards. Then when it went to April it worked fine and I got a confirmation email straight away.
Plenty of games to hold me over between now and then!

Re: OculusRift
I don't want to shit on folks who are excited about VR coming back again, are excited for it, looking forward to it, and buying it.
BUT, I do want to go on record here at GR that I believe that all this VR stuff is going to bomb. Or at the very best, find a niche, be self sustaining and carve a piece of fragmented market with enthusiasts. There is no chance in hell that this will find mainstream success.
Three reasons.
1) People don't want to "do" things when they're relaxing. They don't want to get up. They don't want to move around. Playing video games is a leisurely relaxing pursuit. Not an active one.
2) People don't like putting shit on their head. See 3d glasses.
3) VR isolates you from the other people in your home.
and then there's the price...

This is where I think VR will fall into place. It'll be like multi-monitor setups and hardcore flight stick/steering wheel arrangements.Or at the very best, find a niche, be self sustaining and carve a piece of fragmented market with enthusiasts.
Pricetag is nothing for the people they're aiming this at up front. No different to nut bags who buy launch consoles only to watch the price go down less than a year later, or in the case of the Wii U the week after release when it's in large fire sales.

Re: OculusRift
I'd imagine all three of those reasons are irrelevant to males under 25 who are going to lap this shit up.
And then there's the porn.
