You can always sell a 1070 later, just keep everything in good nick.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
My zotac 1080 amp edition shipped from amazon, should get it in a week and a half.
I received my new monitor Friday, been putting it through its paces. Overall gsync has been a little underwhelming, maybe my expectations were too high. In my testing I've found several things.
1. It doesn't fix frame pacing, if a game delivers uneven frame times, the display just shows the uneven frames and you'll still notice judder.
2. 30-40fps still looks like 30fps, when games fall to this framerate level you get less judder but the image doesn't have the smoothness of 45fps+.
3. Ideally you still want a game to be > 50fps and you want the engine to deliver consistent frame times. I found games that are GPU limited work and look very smooth, games that are cpu limit still have a bit of judder because the cpu limited scenario tends to deliver erratic frame times. Perfect examples of the cpu limited situation, watchdogs and crysis 3(welcome to the jungle).
4. The current 970 I have surprisingly works really well at 1440p, gsync hides the fact it might dip below 60fps and still looks very smooth, perfect test case for gsync.
5. 144hz is amazeballs smooth, windows desktop and animations are blur free, games that can kick up to 100fps have a realness in motion that's hard to explain.
6. 1440p looks excellent, aliasing is reduced, extra sharpness and the increased dpi makes the viewing experience so much more pleasant.
Overall gsync is a step up, variable sync is the future and improves the experience, it's still not magic and won't make poorly coded games and 30ish fps any more pleasant though.
Forza and project cars on gsync are god tier, it's weird how some games seem to benefit more than others.
The acer predator is a sweet monitor, very little to no light bleed, nice and uniform whites, out of the box the colour is a bit too warm for my liking, after setting the user color to R:92 G:92 B:100 it's much better. The red ends on the feet look better than I thought they would, I'll try and post a photo when i get a chance.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
Again, all depends on my tax return at this point but looking at the ASUS PG279Q ROG Swift now. Slightly more expensive than the Acer but from what I can tell better built overall according to reviews. Definitely be my last monitor purchase for a good long time to come.
Incidentally, did a clean install of Windows 10 yesterday. Despite an hour or so of initial headaches with games refusing to load and EA Origin deciding it didn't want to recognise my download library, finally got everything working. Even DOOM worked without fault. Just going to keep my current settings as is. Even downloading Witcher 3 again to give it another go. When in doubt, hard reset for the win.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
Weird thing happened today on my monitor. I had my computer on during the night/early morning and my monitor on standby while downloading from steam. I check it ever now and then, but when I checked it last my monitor's screen went all fuzzy. When I turned on my monitor the Acer predator logo was fine but desktop was really fuzzy. Restarted and it was fine...
Possible reasons: video card driver issues, monitor is overclocked to 165hz and playing up.
Seems others are having the same issue, apparently related to maxwell cards and display port.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
There is a line split bug too people have, I think the gsync scaler module has still a few lingering bugs. I'm going to take my monitor back tomorrow, I have a dead pixel on the right hand side, i gave it a few days to see if it would self correct but no go, using the acer 7 day perfect pixel guarantee to swap it over for one with no dead pixels.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
I've read lots of reports on quality control on this monitor as well others. Some person ordered 5 of them, got them delivered, tried everyone one of them and kept the good one while returning the rest.
You'd expect better with the money you're paying.

Bring on everything. PC gaming has never been as good.
I can transition from a "traditional" KBAM game like Total Warhammer to my arcade stick with SF5 to the best version of *insert console game here* with a few button clicks.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
I know right? Stole MGS V, Alien Isolation and Shadow of Mordor from Steam the other day.
To be fair none of them really needed a new gpu over my aging 7950.
Horizon 3 is my main motivator.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
Ordered a Radeon RX 480 from PCCG. Decided I just don't play enough to warrant spending big. They went on sale whilst I was watching some shows this evening and the 4gb version was already sold out Ended up getting the 8gb XFX model for $379.
Also grabbed a CPU cooler, gonna OC this old i7-2600k

Re: Master Race gaming thread
Thats a great price for the 480. Two of those in Crossfire for 1080 performance and still cheaper than a 1070

I can turn my 360 on for that, perks of being Team Unbiased.
Maybe you can share your thoughts on Rise of the Tomb Raider at 1440p 80fps in DX12 all settings max?

Re: Master Race gaming thread
Swapped over my monitor today, this one is much better, no dead pixels, perfect.
I see reviews put the R480 between a 970~980. Practically no overclocking headroom but it seems reasonably priced locally.
Now I patiently wait for my zotac 1080 to arrive...
Looking at the R480 reviews, AMD still has an issue with power consumption and performance per watt.
Power consumption is very close to 1080 but performance is half. Nvidia still have a massive advantage in performance per watt. This just means even with Vega they won't match a 1080, the Ti version will still crush it.

I just upgraded from a very similar system. Now running:
Intel i7 6700k
Asus Z170-AR MB
NZXT X-61 Kraken Water Cooler
NZXT S340 White Case
16Gb RAM
Still using my MSI 970 4G Gaming card for now.
Also looking at Acer XB271HU bmiprz 27.0" 165Hz g-sync IPS monitor in a month or so.
I'll post pics once I finish tidying a few things up.
