Re: Forza Horizon 3 incoming...
Seems like these games on the Windows 10 store are largely terrible versions. Wonder if we can expect Gears 4 on PC to also be sub-par?lestat wrote:http://www.dsogaming.com/news/halo-5-fo ... px-format/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Last month, it was revealed that Windows 10 would get a more secure encrypted appx format. And it appears that the first games protected by this new encryption tech are already available on Windows Store as both Halo 5: Forge and Forza Horizon 3 use it.
But let’s take things from the beginning. Via this new secure encrypted appx format, when the user installs an application from the Windows Store, it will get encrypted on-the-fly using the Encrypting File System feature of Windows.
Once encrypted, these application files will not be accessible for modification even if full access permissions are granted.
This basically means that PC gamers won’t be able to mod the games at all. For example, modding Forza 6: APEX’s weather was really simple via XML files. This modification, however, won’t work in Forza Horizon 3 due to this new encryption tech.
The good news – at least for developers – is that via this new tech, developers are now protected against applications getting decompiled and against piracy.
Hmm an open world game heavily dependent on streaming has to decrypt all the streamed data. Nice one.The reason of those stutters is the fact that the game uses EFS which consumes a lot of CPU.
Steam FTW

Re: Forza Horizon 3 incoming...
ok this helpd a LOT.
start FH3, open task manager, click details tab, right click forza and set cpu priority to low.
can also set affinity- uncheck CPU 0 (this didn't help me at all)

Can get around 40fps with my 970 at 1440p. Didn't try to improve it too much but it's still very playable considering how good it looks.

I'm downloading it now, reckon I should get 60fps at 1440p with the 980Ti.
Even when it's not at its best...the Master Race is good.

I ended up doing a complete reformat of my SSD OS drive. Fixed the problem I was having downloading games from Windows Store. Will probably buy next week.

Re: Forza Horizon 3 incoming...
New drivers installed. Turned off that dynamic shit, vsync, and fps limit and kept everything on Ultra and i'm getting avg 90 fps in 1080p. Still occasional stutters though. Something not quite right but it mostly plays nice. I'm sure a fix will be either found in settings or updated soon.
Anyone else feel like this has a much more arcady feel to it? It seems impossible to not make a corner anymore. Even a sharp corner needs just a squeeze of the brakes and a downshift and you glide through it. It's been a while since I Forza'd. Maybe I'm just used to F1 2016?

I haven't even booted the game but Horizon is pretty much the arcade side of Forza.

Re: Forza Horizon 3 incoming...
Had a quick try this morning, at 1440p ultra settings, I was hitting 50~80fps. Looking at afterburner charts and tinkering some graphics settings showed I wasn't GPU limited, gpu util sits around 60~80% at ultra settings. It's basically cpu limited which is causing stutters and drops, especially core 0 which seems to flat line a lot at 100%. I wouldn't be surprised if the EFS encryption is just pushing things over the edge at times.
Besides that it looks great and with Gsync looks really smooth, I noticed a few flickering bugs and issues, its clear the PC version wasn't ready, needed a little more time in the oven imo, I think with a few patches it will be excellent.

Re: Forza Horizon 3 incoming...
What view does everyone use? I usually use the cockpit view, but it cuts out too much of the beautiful world. Second choice is bonnet view but it's difficult for the off road sections. I'm just finding myself never happy with the camera.

XB1: 1080p + 4xMSAA + 30fps + high textures + high world car detail + high reflection
PC: Improved LOD (but still suffers from pop-in to a certain degree), better AF, higher shadow quality (mostly noticeably on the shadows on the car), support for arbitrary resolutions and higher framerates.
Xbone version holds up very well.

Re: Forza Horizon 3 incoming...
locked 60fps for me unless i'm in surfers paradise, and that's not too bad either.
setting priority to low in task manager has made a massive improvement, runs like a dream 99% of the time.
no shit, I thought FH2 looked great, this blows it away.
so good.

It has to mirror console, otherwise no one would buy it on console since it's a play anywhere game.

They have to do it really.
It's kind of worth it if you have an Xbox and PC.
Save $30 on the Singapore store though, it's a pain but worth it.
